    "You are worth more than companies will ever pay you" - wow that is solid gold. Thanks for this helpful video, it applies to my business-building as well.

    1) Don’t charge too low 2) Don’t say yes to everything 3) Don’t let parents dictate what too teach; you stay in control. 4) Don’t give too much for free. Ex: free classes 5) Set your policies that state what happens with certain occurrences and you’re covered 6) Have a system in place, any business needs to have a system and they let you scale and allows you to grow 7) Be careful and not go after “shiny objects! You will drive yourself crazy. If its working, keep going with what you have!

      Yes!!! So many teachers go into it with the thought that they have to say yes to everyone or they won’t be successful. And then they get stuck in super low price classes with very demanding clients (sometimes even bullies)

    I spent way too much time planning. I found a way to streamline the process with a current curriculum that is online with an interactive e-book. I can’t believe how many hours it has saved me. This sweet kid takes 4 classes a week. His mom wants 5 days over the summer! My time is valuable. I need to remind myself of that.

    These are entirely valuable, on-the-ball tips. I learned the same lessons the hard way years ago, but have grown and learned in the same manner as yourself. On a complete tangent... looking at your eyes through this video just makes me want to give you a comfort hug. I hope you don't need one as much as I intuit.

    Hi Tim! I'm jumping in a meeting, but I want to come back and check out this video later! Just wanted to come in and leave a comment saying HI! I'm curious to know more about your daily teaching routine. I think you posted a vlog a while back and it showed your work-life balance. I'm working to restructure mine after making the mistake of allowing burn-out. Hope all is well!! :)

      Hey Kristen! I haven't done a video about that yet but maybe someday - I might have talked about it in a video - can't remember to be honest! Its not perfect but I am getting a bit better at dividing up my time!

    Great work on making policies! I think it’s amazing that you gave a lot for free at the beginning but now you are worth so much more and you learned through all of it . That may have been a good way to success. Systems are great also ! Excellent work ! Thanks for the tips

Then it's time to choose platform (most likely ClassIn) and start advertising daily on xiaohongshu! I'm excited but can't start teaching until end of May (family commitments - grandson graduating, etc)

    I’ve been teaching in Shenzhen/Hong Kong for 9 years. Very good points made in the video! My advice is, students come and go. It’s amazing when they come, but also upsetting when they have found else where. So, just have an open mind and expect them to be moving around and find other teachers too. Hopefully, over time you’ll accumulate all the loyal ones. Keep it up guys. Thanks to Tim for creating this community. Peace

    Great content. Had a mother that gave us books to go over with the daughter every class. It wasn't really teaching English but rather reading together. Kept asking to just let me teach English. She decided to go with a local teacher and honestly not sad about that. Parents need to step back and let us teach.

    Definitely had to make a cancellation policy, but few actually took advantage of me and cancelled last minute.

  • @jdb6026
    @jdb6026 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've been really interested in going independent, but there have been many things that keep me from doing so. One of them is the system for how to go about the whole business. For example, what happens if my client has to cancel or re-schedule, or maybe what if I'm the one who has to do that? Teaching as a person from one of the Big Seven (especially a white one) is very different from those who do not belong to the Big Seven. So people like me have to lower their standards because the competition is rough as.

    • @onlineteacherdude1284
      @onlineteacherdude1284  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, not really sure what you mean but when a student cancels, they just message me, it's really simple. If I have to cancel a class, I just message them.

      @@onlineteacherdude1284 Thanks for replying! I'm part of a Facebook group that consists of independent online EFL tutors and they had shared some horror stories because they lack rules. Some of the tutors have had pretty chill clients, but others haven't. I don't have a system for how to deal with things yet, although I know the best way to settle on one is to start teaching and figuring it out on the fly.

    Don’t be afraid to say “No.” In another business, I was taught that you made your money by correctly turning down clients. This is because the wrong clients devour your time and resources with unreasonable expectations and inadequate compensation.
