@@rogerigez21 - NO SERENA DOESN'T. Y'ALL HAVE BEEN HATING ON HER SINCE SHE WAS 15/16 YEARS OLD JUST LIKE YOU'RE DOING COCO RIGHT NOW. THEY DIDN'T AND DON'T DESERVE THAT. YOU DO!!!
Ironically, Spirlea saved MP in beating Monica Seles in QF, but lost to Venus after holding MP. This was the tournament she made a splash, and never played like that since.
Looking back, it's not that surprising. It seems like Spirlea didn't have much going for her in terms of consistency. She seemed to have done everything on a whim. I think she was only going to go so far playing like that even though she was very talented.
@@gk891 Yes but 1) Mandlikova was a way better natural athlete and 2) Hana was a harder worker and did try and temper her natural tendencies somewhat. By 1985ish until early 87 Mandlikova was a lot more calculating, and more effective too.
well duh. Spirlea was a different player with a different playing style. however hingis won all of her previous matches with Spirlea so the end result would have been the same.
Wonder if Spirlea ever apologized directly to Venus or the Williams family? She was a grown woman getting this flustered and acting so nasty, so petty against a kid lol
@seensay2132 I think I remember reading in Jon Wertheim's book Venus Envy that Spirlea and Venus's dad Richard had reconciled and became friendly with each other.
How was it Venus’ fault? Obviously Venus was passing the net post first because she was closer to it than Spirlea. Spirlea should’ve waited for Venus to pass just like any other courteous player would🙄🙄
Honestly, your comment is not really accurate because in the press conference after, Spirlea essentially admitted to bumping Venus. I actually think Venus' sportsmanship is one of her strengths. Not really crazy about that quality in her sister, though, but that's another conversation, I guess.
This video should have a million views.

Carillo has been hating on the williams sisters for a LONG time!!
Serena deserves the hate at least
She’s jealous and resents their success
I’d say Chris evert does more so lol especially at Wimbledon when they would play

In 1998 Irina Sparlea defeated Venus ... ( th-cam.com/video/n22supDcAI4/w-d-xo.html )

@@gk891Yes I agree. She didn’t really play patterns or set plays. She had phenomenal talent though.
@@FlabbyTitmuss She was a bit like Hana Mandlikova in a way.

Muy buena jugadora Spirlea, golpes espectaculares y gran desplazamiento
25:53 hmmm, I wonder if her sister on their right would ever play tennis herself.
That’s good one😂😂
I'm so glad Venus won this match. 😊
There's that turkey
Had Spirlea made to finals, it would have been very different and more interesting final match..
But she didn’t and Venus won and had the better career
@@cptbusstop92 That is true. Nevertheless, it would have been more interesting and better finals at that point.

@@dinomijatovic3921 You don't know that and never will
Martina would have destroyed her. She was untouchable during that US open.
Her racisme gave her bad karma lol
GOOD!!! Spirlea got what she deserved. Nothing

She did not

Ok that collision was venus’ fault. She was looking for it to be honest
nice to see an honest answer ,thanks

She obviously bumped into Venus and even admitted during interview she was trying to make Venus turn..
No it wasn't. Clean your glasses.

The dude was Spirlea
