This utility looks amazing, but my two biggest gripes is that it is subscription based and that it is online. I'd buy it in a heartbeat if it was a one-time fee, and that I wouldn't have to upload anything to the internet
This software was a godsend. I love it beyond words. There is so much I can keep track of that my crappy notes just aren't keeping up with. Random Word document here, Excel file there, scribble on a single map wherever did I put it? Now, I can keep track of it all. Thank you guys so much for this. I love the software, but I will admit I don't use it like I should. I'm running a game in the Forgotten Realms, and there is so much... crap in the history of that world, that it's impossible for me to keep track of it all. Maybe I should just make a mini-world with the items relevant to the parties that are running through it, but it's daunting. I think if you're doing a homebrew, it is much more accessible. If World Anvil could find a way to license official worlds, and have those as templates, it would be super helpful.

Summery - Worldanvil is a good site to use with your literary and Roleplaying world building. If you are writing a Nanowrimo, writing a true novel or GMing an RPG then certainly go over and give it a look see. Pros - lots of features linked into a solid package. Strong community. Multiple access features allowing world builders and world users role based access.make and revise anything virtually on the fly. Cons - has Microsoft word levels of complexity. Weblinked (duh) with no easy migration (I may have missed it bit did not see it). The help is not as obvious (it very much can be found) as he getting started goals are. Cost for the no ads feature is significant (for those that care about privacy) It is a good system but be aware, this has a significant free and PAY aspect. Some of the best stuff is hidden behind the paywall but basic features are available free forever. (To the nice lovely British presenter ... if you or your SO did this - do consider pointing this out to the Nanowrimo people if you have not done it yet. Useful.)

I randomly heard about this on Reddit when I was looking for some sort of World Building software. I knew something had to be easier then a standard notebook. I heard about World Anvil and almost cried when I saw the feature list. Too good to be true, I thought. Nope. Pretty damn awesome. Room for improvement? Of course, but damn you have ALOT. Enough to where I could spend months writing and fleshing out things in a world. As soon as payday comes around you have a new Patreon and cheerleader!
I started working on the free edition: Holy shit - You can tie NPCs with portraits and plots, create timelines, organizations, places and OMG - you have map markers with an interactive map tool ! As of next month - I will be a GRANDMASTER worldbuilder. Thank you for creating this tool !
What if your campaign happens across multiple worlds? Is there an option for a multiverse level? It looks great though, a fantastic idea with what looks like a user-friendly system. Good job.
I really like the idea/look of World Anvil, id really recommend though you have secret/private worlds be a free feature. I was keen to try it all out and if I liked it become a paying member, but i'm definitely not comfortable having my world be Public as its only for friends and my novel writing, and so I decided not to trry World Anvil. If the private world feature was free id 100% have jumped in and likely become a paying member after trialing it.

Privacy is a big draw to the guild - which is why it’s a guild feature (running a website is expensive and we can’t survive without support) but it’s also available at our lowest tier, to make it as accessible as possible. If you want to try out World Anvil to understand how it works, it’s definitely not necessary! And if you’re really serious about it, then 3 dollars will get you a whole month to try it out! If secret/private worlds would be a free feature I would try it, otherwise I will not. I understand that you want to make money and this is your business, but even your lowest tier support is to expensive. Why don't you do one more tier, just to have private worlds for let it be 3 dollars/mnth. I am sure, you would gain more customers, that in the future would probably buy higher support tiers. Maybe you should just make more support tiers or rather let customer to pay for what he needs. Anyway the product looks good, but not for that price.

If this was a one time. Purchase and not online based I would be all in. We game in my garage where the internet is sporty and sometimes we game while camping. Fantasy grounds has worked well as it's off line and a one time purchase. Subscription services are like a large brood of vampires. Before you know it they can collectively suck you dry.
Yeah i'm gonna be using this. Hard to keep track of all the races, esspecially when you have half a dousen versions of the samething. I building a new world/new universe and it's alot of filed paper finding. The use for digitalizing it is a god send. Can you create languages in this thing? I have a half dousen of those too. And i'm not even gonna start or the magic system, or i'll be here all day, i guess i'll be there all day. Is there a hard limit of how much stuff can go into this site?
I recently started using World Anvil. I really like the way it all fits together. I do have a problem however: in this video they show someone specifying the name and type of an article, and then in the preview they click the link to begin creating that article. When I try to do that I am told I don't have permission to access the page I was linked to. :/ Not sure why this is happening, but it is a bit of a pain to go back and correct these broken links after the fact... Can anyone tell me how to fix this? (or what I might be doing wrong? I am definitely getting the article type correct because it's creating the link in the first place...)

I find this intriguing but not exactly sure, despite watching several videos about it and going to the site itself, how it all works. Is the free version public for everyone to see my creations? Can I upgrade after trying the free version and what happens if the site shuts down? Would I lose all the info or would the info be recoverable somehow? I would be using it for writing organization and perhaps some artistic use as well. Thanks.
Ok many questions here and all of them are in fact available on the website but here it goes: - Yes the basic version is free - Yes you can upgrade at any time - The website will not shutdown but if it does you can back up your work by exporting it (Ready before the end of the year) - Everything is public unless you are a guild member - If you stop being a guild member your stuff remain private but you cannot edit them unless you make them public or upgrade again.
Okay, now that you've told me what I can do, how about making some videos to explain this shit! I'm very frustrated with the site, it's not all self explanatory.

I just want to create a story and World anvil seems like a useful tool to do so. I am however having a very difficult time understanding how many of the features work. I know there are many guides meant to help people, but I've read a few and they didn't give me any new info. So I will stick to writing articles for things in my world and not worry about the rpg features.

Zoom zoom! :D If you click the settings wheel, you can set the speed to 0.75 and that'll slow me down. I often set tutorial speeds to 1.25 if I think they're too slow (because I'm a mad caffeine hound )... Janet

We have a one-time purchase subscription along with our monthly and yearly ones! But yes you need online connection to use World Anvil
