    I would like to add that Denver has lounge access again. Icelandair uses the United lounge, but only if booked into Saga. It went away due to construction and the pandemic but lounge access is available again. As of a couple months ago.

      I just used that lounge on a flight the other week and it was a terrible experience. Loud, annoying music playing the entire time, claustrophobic floorplan with way too many seats squeezed in too tightly, and the worst coffee I have ever tasted anywhere on earth. We had a cookie that was OK, but didn't even bother trying any other food 😂 They got like four people running checkpoint outside and fancy access gates to keep people out, but after visiting I feel like they should turn the gates 180 degrees and charge people to leave-- 10/10 not worth the time spent walking there-- just go to one of the regular restaurants and eat there. Like what is the point of running a "lounge" that's more crowded and more noisy than a regular gate area? I guess they think because it's skinned in dark colors and wood veneers that it's "luxurious," but it's not at all what I would want out of a lounge (just looking for somewhere that's quiet and doesn't feel packed with people).

    Your review is spot on. If you buy Saga and think you are getting a modern international business class product you will be very disappointed. If you see Saga as a nice premium economy product then it’s really good. My airport of choice to fly internationally is YYZ (Toronto Pierson). It’s only a 2 hour drive from my US home base, but the cost savings over flying from my local city are significant. Also I can often fly direct and that reduces the changes of problems along the way. I’ve used Iceland Air twice from trips to Europe and on one of those has a layover. I’m itching to get back to Iceland in winter for a week to have a descent chance at seeing the northern lights. The staff was always super friendly both on the ground and in the air. The airport was great to navigate. We were there back in 2016 when they had explosive growth. My wife needs assistance and they whisked her through the airport at breathtaking speed and efficiency. Since my flights are not really more than 5 hours the premium seating is super welcome for this tall adult. Full flat bed is nice, but on 4 to 5 hour flights, not that big of an advantage. On 6 plus hours … it’s a lovely experience. Not essential, but genuinely nice.

    I like the saga class. Also inside of saga lounge at the Iceland airport. You can go upstairs and at the reception there’s some model airplanes and then they’ll take you to a locker and you can pick one out to purchase. I guess they still have them there. I see some on the counter in this video. The pizza bites were delicious too.

    I flew with Iceland from Portland to Frankfurt last year in Saga Class. Booked it with Alaska Airlines reward miles. I had a great experience and found Icelandic customs control to be just as efficient as you did here. I will definetley consider them again next time I go to Europe.

      Many channels concentrate on premium flights because they are collecting status and air miles which makes their future flights cheaper. I actually prefer the premium economy option depending on the airline as the ability to earn status is better per dollar than business class but not as expensive. It all depends on the airline. It pays to compare like for like. Even flying economy within Europe and buying lounge access makes more sense than business class a lot of the time.

      I like variety from air travel content creators. Plus, I don’t think their intent is to show off how “rich” they are, they’re just sharing their experiences. That said, I don’t follow some of them because of how they go about their work and I don’t want to support them. So I’m glad you un-subbed from one of them there 😂

      For regular flyers there are other factors especially if they are collecting status with an airline. For tourists it makes a good alternative especially if you like the idea of a stop to stretch your legs.

    Thanks for another comprehensive and straightforward review. I appreciate your channel for reviewing an airline without all of the annoying drama that is unfortunately rather common on too many aviation channels these days. 😊. Icelandic Saga Class looks quite comfortable to me. The meals were certainly much better looking than the usual "dog food in the sky" choices offered on some legacy carriers. 😂 I would certainly consider Icelandic as a pleasant way to go from the U.S. to Europe if I wanted to spend a few days in Iceland. Take care and have a great autumn. 🍁 🍂

    Premium suggests Premium Economy and it looks rather like that too but then Icelandair isn't flying the longer distances of many airlines with it being mid Atlantic.I think that they mainly fly to Europe and North America although I suppose that they might do something to north Africa for holiday makers seeking the elusive Sun .

    Great video. I previously flew Saga with Icelandair on their 737-8 from MAN to KEF and then the 767 2-1-2 configuration from KEF to JFK. I had a similar service - cold salad within Europe and then hot meat on to JFK but I'm sure I had a cold sandwich for the latter half of the service. I loved sitting in the single middle seat - such a unique experience. I agree with your comments regarding their service and long-haul carriers. I stopped over to make the long transfer to have a day at the Sky Lagoon.

    I surprise the 6 minutes transfer time including passport control can be done in KEF airport! However the transfer time might be longer in busier airports like LHR, AMS or CDG. Can anybody advise the minimum time required for transfer from international sector (1st leg) to another international sector (final leg) thanks.

    I like the concept of this, wide than a typical PE seat, with lounge access and better catering than PE as you said. Though I don’t like a transfer in the middle of the trip destroying my sleep and such a long flight with a Narrowbody is unfathomable for me (I live in Asia so I always fly on wide bodies even on 2 hour flights).

    I haven't had the experience yet, but I personally don't think I couldn't handle an 8 hour flight on a 737. I feel more comfortable flying in a 777 or 787 or something equivalent for a long haul flight than flying in these smaller planes mainly meant for short domestic routes.

    • @Vladimir_B77W
      @Vladimir_B77W 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The paradox is that regional jets are MUCH MUCH MORE comfortable than sardinned 3-4-3 777s or 3-3-3 787s. Embraers have 2-2 layout with 18" seatwidth, A220s have 2-3 layout with 18.5" seatwidth. Compare this with 17" on aforementioned widebodies.

    • @ganthrithor
      @ganthrithor 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Having done both, I actually much prefer narrow-body for longer flights. The widebody experience just feels like being packed into a large cave with ten thousand other people. Narrowbody has fewer people around you and you can kind of see out the windows on both sides from basically any seat. Widebody sucks imo.

    As someone with an allergy to tree nuts (cashews, walnuts and pecans), can I say how refreshing it is that they offer something besides mixed nuts to go with the first beverage service? Granted, I rarely get to fly in first or business class, but sometimes I feel like it wouldn't be worth it, just because I'd be so nervous about accidentally eating something that would send me into anaphylactic shock. I've already gone through that one on a flight, and once was enough.

    • @Finnurkg

    although i loved tegel airport and the ber's observation deck is a joke in comparison, i have really made my peace with the ber. it is really nice designwise, the shopping area behind the security, including all the restaurants and lounges, is so much bigger and better then those tiny ones we were used to at tegel airport and the walking distances are also very acceptable, plus there is no vast underground walkways inside the same terminal, such as those in frankfurt.
    the only drawback is, that only goes for terminal one. terminal 2 is a real contrast to terminal one. it doesnt look pretty, neither from the outside, nor from the inside, everything feels a little cramped and it only offers bus gates/walking gates. after i had to do security there, i chose to avoid it as much as i can. this really feels like one of those additional buildings added to the old tegel and schönefeld airports which i didnt like even back then.
    anyway, i am really happy you like our new airport and thanks for that really cool video. :>

    The seats and leg room are awful, it’s worse than JetBlue’s even more space seats and this is “business class”.
    The food is good enough for sure.
    The service while not done with a smile, is good to really good.
    They kept the drinks flowing.
    The Saga Lounge in KEF is a very nice lounge.. is it Emirates no, but it’s a lot more nicer and offerings are a lot more then I expected.

    Can you do a Brutally Honest on the Kangaroo route on Qantas's Airbus A380 from London Heathrow to sydney via Singapore? All of us would love to see it!

    • @simply_aviation

      Qantas is very expensive and time-consuming to fly, because of how far Australia is from where we live. So, at the moment it's unlikely we'll do that, because above the Kangoroo Route aboard the A380, our To-Do list has the LHR-PER B787 non-stop flight, which we'd want to try first. :)

    I just checked in comparison Icelandair Saga Class from MUC to MCO and Lufthansa MUC-MIA mid January 2025. Lufthansa is cheaper in a proper Business Class cabin nonstop, on a modern A350-900, no hassle of transit.
    So why should anyone book Saga Class, when you get the same buck for your money nonstop? Just for a questionable novelty of transiting in Keflavik? For over 3100€? No thank you ver much. If it was a 1000€ less, ok.
    I rather have a lie flat seat, a nonstop flight and a stress free experience. I have travelled Lufthansa so many times in Business Class, I am quite familiar with the product and I collect miles. And probably a free upgrade to First 😊

    A kind of service I really hope but doubt will pop up one day is "lay flat/no-thrills" offer, where the only perk comparing to the economy would be the the flat-reclining seats. Seriously, I can't bother less about the lounge, food and entertainment on board as I can all cover it by myself, but the stupid narrow economy seats is the main reason I feel so trashed on arrival after a transatlantic flight.

    • @simply_aviation
      @simply_aviation  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      There is an airline that already does this! We have flown on it, but only in regular Economy, not the lie-flat premium seats upfront. Japanese low-cost carrier Zipair, a subsidiary of Japan Airlines, operates Boeing 787-8s with lie-flat seats up front, but does not include any service like meals, beverages, or lounge access. Just the lie-flat seats. Here's our Economy Class video about Zipair: th-cam.com/video/r2rUiw5lqoQ/w-d-xo.html

    Oh dear, a 737 Max🙈🙈🙈 at least you kept all doors😂😂😂😂 the seats are good for the 4 hour flight in Europe, but bad for the 8 hour flight to Orlando. With the 757 it would have taken only 7 hours, but the 737 are so slow, please remove them from all longer flights.

    I can see why they don't call it Business Class. Those seats on the flight to Keflavik are, at best, Premium Economy seats. The second flight looked a bit better.

    ? If, as you say from the outset, Icelandair itself is 'very careful' NOT to call its Saga class "Business Class", then it seems unreasonable of you to judge Saga by standards and expectations that you say you expect in Business Class.

    • @simply_aviation
      @simply_aviation  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It’s not, because how it’s listed in GDS systems is within their control. And if you look for Business Class flights from Europe to North America, Saga Class will pop up, so it’s fair to judge it against other Business Class products. :)

    • @theon9575
      @theon9575 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@simply_aviation So I guess that even though you say Icelandic itself is "careful not to call itself Business Class", it has nevertheless included itself in GDS systems as Business Class. That was careless of them! 😂
      I often do look for trans-Atlantic Business Class flights from Amsterdam (for my work) as you suggest, and yes, Saga Class pops up. But at significantly lower prices than other competitors, so that only the naive would not wonder why ... their lack of lounges, long travel time because of the Rekjavik stop-over, the no-choice tray meals, old-style seats more of Premium Economy standard, zero privacy, etc .... Not all Business Classes are created equal, LOL, and nor are their prices. To compare with much more expensive Business Class like Qatar or Etihad just because it's in the same GDS systems group is bit rough. Like the rest of life, you get what you pays for.

    Why do you not clearly say what a ticket for this trip costs. I KNOW that you did not pay for this - thank you for the honesty, but you MUST go further by stating the standard or achievable price for this flight. The commentary is only relevant at a certain price. If the ticket is $100, it is wonderful, if it is $3000 then it is is terrible. With no pricing, the review is totally meaningless!
