They need to turn HEP on just for fun a couple times. 281 should be allowed to let out that 900 rpm scream again
Indeed
I agree 1000%
I wanna see it run on Amtrak trains again
@@NorCaliRailroading2023 not going to happen since the ALC42's are coming in large numbers.

These things sound like spaceships powering-up! I love the F40PH. What a mighty-machine.
That's just so awesome to hear some history start and run.
0:04 sounds like an air raid siren on that part
That start up sounded amazing. Great catch!!
I need this in my front yard. Forever
The lovely sound of emd locomotives
Great video capture!
Rise and shine 821
Listen to the roar of that 645 drive engine.
The One Dislike is from Lisa Gaming Roblox.
This is a Railfanning category operating startup video…Not exposing Lisa gaming Roblox video…
This sounds way cooler than it should😂
Where is this? I really want to see one of my favorite locomotives in real life!
It’s at the California State Railroad Museum in Old Sacramento
Ome of the best classes of diesel traction built in the united states
when does it start
I Ik remember seeing her. I have a video of it, I had a blast, and the startup sounded nice. 👍🏼
Awesome!
Sad to say man but the Caltrain F40’s are there going to be there soon too
thats one old amtrak!
I subbed
Thank you!
@@GR10Productions I also post railfaning vids
Which is mostly Caltrain stuff
THATS AWESOME!
I thought F40PH(R)'s weren't in operation anymore. I thought they were just NPCU's?
This is at a museum.
Metra still uses F40PHs for their Chicago commuter trains, but they are slowly being phased out.

What SDP40F was F40PHR unit 281 built from???
Not sure, just know it’s a F40PHR

The startup sounded like the indian EMD Wdg4
It’s probably because they use a similar prime mover
It's not exactly like the Wdg4 startup. Maybe you should search"Wdg4 startup" and watch any video and you will see the difference.
@@jayashreeprakash1281 I watched a clip of it, it sounds like it uses the same prime mover type which is a EMD 645 but just a different variation.

Im assuming that Unit isnt working as a NPCU?
No, NPCUs don’t have prime movers lol
@@GR10Productions Oh im not that good at trains lol!
@@TheStig_TG oh ok lol, to break it down NPCUs don’t have a engine at all and they are only used to control the train and not actually pull it. The 281 is what would all NPCUs would be if they didn’t take out the engine.
@@GR10Productions Oh i was talking about prime movers i know what a NPCU I should've known that wasn't a NPCU because there are no cargo doors.
Someday it will scream again......

Let 281 cook
Love how the foamers only take photos and never restore or actually work on the equipment. They just stand there and look.
Sounds Like WDP4,WDG4,WDP4B,WDP4D & WDG4D Starting up.
Because they have the same engine
I guarantee the f40phr definitely needs a new coat of paint
When ever I see one passing With a ebell it doesn’t sound like that
That’s cause it isn’t a real F40PHR it’s most likely a F40PH2c or a NPCU (Non powered control unit)
