I also got into Tekken cuz of Tekken Revolution. That was a great game for beginners, no rage art/drive or bound, the only downside was the Invincible move
This reminds me of the way people talk about SoulCalibur 5. Was enough that the series went into hibernation and was nearly dead for seceral years. At the same time, several of the top players began their competitive career through that game, and still look back on it fondly.
Tekken Revolution will always be kinda special to me cause it's how I got into the series as well. Also, those effects on the moves were kinda clean honestly.

Revolution was actually pretty fun. The lobbies on tht game where some of the best times I'd ever had in gaming cos everyone had mics, everyone knew how bs the game could be and we all just had fun. Going from Tekken rev to deciding to buy tag2 was such a shock cos tag2 made me hate tekken for the next few years, until 7 came.
T5 and T6 are my favourite Tekken games especially T6 as I put so many hours into it plus the scenario campaign was really fun and I kinda liked Lars as a character especially his design I also reached Tekken God rank with him in this game and the netcode was ok.
I loved Tekken Revolution. It was the first Tekken game where I played against other people online and finally learned how to juggle, and I been playing Tekken since 3 came out. It's also the first fighting game besides Street Fighter IV where I finally mastered the Arcade Stick and started making people rage quit. And yes I did raise Paul's power stats to max and turned his half circle 2 into a death punch and yes I did the same thing for Bob and spammed his rocket uppercut to his back back 1+2 for easy damage, causing people to rage and insult me even more. But I eventually learned how to do actual combos because of those players calling me garbage. That way I can do combos, spam overpowered moved, and feel more superior to players who had the money to buy mics but can't spend time in practice mode. And every time I anticipated and blocked Kazuya's invincible and punished that spammer with a throw or juggle I felt like Daigo parrying Chun Li's super in 3rd Strike...... for two seconds. I don't think I would have gotten better in Tekken 7 or even bought the game if it hadn't been for Revolution. I owe it all to that flawed but beautiful game. I'm actually surprised and disappointed that there ain't a lot of FTP arcade fighting games in the PS store that is like or even surpassed Tekken Revolution. It's one of those fighting games that can turn people like me who were casual to more competitive.

3:30 - i don't understand the logic of people saying that tag 2 was "bad" and almost killed the franchise... it's a 4 player, co-operative tag battle fighter released at the end of the lifecycle of the PS3 and 360... there would be lower sales by DEFAULT because one copy of the game services 2-4 people, compared to a unique copy per console. heading over to your buddy's place to play the game, is literally the spirit and name of the game, it literally didn't matter that fewer people were playing online. i spent more nights playing tag 2 in two years of college with my buddies than i have playing tekken 7 for its entire lifespan... im pretty sure i played more of t6 after tag 2 than i did all of t7.

This was basically my exact experience with the entire franchise, aside from my first game ha Tekken 1 was my first PS1 game when my family first got the system. I followed the franchise as heavily as I could from that point on, and Revolution was where I got the spark to really try to be decent at the game, then I went back to Tag 2, then really leaned into 7
So while my first Tekken game was T4,I remembered discovering Feng Wei and Devil Jin in Tekken 5 and getting started with the customization of Tekken 6,Tekken Revolution kinda was the game that made me a dedicated fan and had me discover my first favorite character with Bryan Fury. It being free definitely was a factor for a kid who couldn't really afford new video games all of the time even though I hated the tokens. The character select theme was really Damn good and I'm glad it's soundtrack is on tekken 7 after Revolutions servers shut down.
The thing I hate with modern Tekken games is the fact you don’t have to play through arcade mode to unlock people, you get everyone handed to you from the start.
