It's extremely rare to come across an artist who understands the emotions behind the lyrics of someone else's song, and is able to deliver it into an entirely different musical genre. Kudos to both Eminem and Kasey.
I can only imagine how Eminem felt after hearing this cover! Lose Yourself is Em's "legacy"! The mark he left behind; his life; his journey. And now Kasey took his words and put her spin on it and put it back out there for the world to hear AGAIN. Like repotting and watering a plant and setting it outside in the sun to reflourish! She definitely did his legacy justice!

This has got to be the best cover of all time. She is a Bluegrass/Country singer in Australia. She took a 20 year old rap song, tore it completely up, & made it her motherfucking own!!! I have just watched it a dozen times tonight, & each time I have got goosebumps & tears flowing. The anguish in this performance is on another level! Her early career mirrored Eminem's which is why she chose this song. Her song, Am I Not Pretty Enough was her big fuck you to the radio stations who would not play her songs. Ironically, it became her first hit, played on every radio station in the country. Youngest woman to be inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association Hall of Fame. Now you understand why she feels this song?

He doesn't own the rights to the song so he didn't approve anything. People are saying this on every video and it's not true unfortunately.

Has anyone ever done full justice to a song like that, wiuth conviction like that? All that anguish and vulnerability and anger and defiance is in the original - Kasey finds it and brings it out. Kudos to MM. And the band. When the band drops in (after hiding in the shadows for five minutes) they are completely with Kasey, at the same intensity.
I attribute the delayed crowd reaction to how good this performance is to
a) Some people might not have known the original. Chambers is mostly known as a "country" performer,
b) This was filmed at an all seated theatre, a venue that you might go to see an opera or similar at
She crys, she pleads and she tells how she got there and how she never gave up.
This is why she is a great musician and the youngest in the Aus hall of fame.
She put so much into this I am surprised she didn't piss herself.

I've watched every reaction I've found in the last 12 months and there seems to be 2 main types of reaction: 1) She was losing me in the beginning, it was a bit slow, but then the drop and it was fire from then on. 2) The HARDCORE Eminem fan. These people are hooked by the end of the first line.

Kasey IMHO now owns this song. Don't know this for a fact, but I've heard Eminem controls all his music so he had to sign off on this so she could release it to all streaming platforms. Again, that is just rumor as far as I know.

I am not a fan of Kasey Chambers, but this performance has blown me away, the lyrics are great of course but she added her voice, her arrangement, melody, her voice, the emotion, the build up, the energy, the band, even the video. It's among the f.....g best music I ever heard!! And that from someone I found middle of the road. I hope she has more future surprises!

Kasey is a country singer, from my home State of South Australia.. She grew up playing with her family band, The Chambers Band. Her Dad is playing slide in this song (with the hat, sitting down).
They even lived on a bus/van the Nullabour Plain, an arid treeless semi-desert part of South Australia near the Great Australian Bight (Cliffs to the Southern Ocean), where they caught rabbits for dinner etc..

Kasey going from that resigned, laid back approach early in the song to the fighting emotion later is beyond powerful! 💪🏼 Kasey is very under appreciated and needs to be recognised more on an international scale! Kasey is a master of storytelling, conveying lyrics and emotion! She is an icon in the Australian music industry, mostly for country and folk, but has her own style and is never afraid to delve into something outside the box. She is just getting better as she gets older. I really hope that Eminem has seen this and appreciates that his song and lyrics were re-imagined in such a spectacular way. I guess he has as he did give her permission to upload to Spotify etc. Would really like to hear what he thought about it though. Where else would you see hand-banging with a banjo, pedal steel guitar and rock band together? Kasey started her solo commercial career around the same time as Eminem and she was a big fan of his music. From what I understand, Kasey spent lockdown playing around with some of her favourite songs and this version of Lose Yourself is the result. Brilliant! Kasey has spent her whole solo career bucking the constraints of the record companies and always gone her way. She made it to the top in Aussie music anyway with many awards, becoming the youngest ever ARIA Hall of Fame recipient. BTW….how was that for breath and vocal control? Not to mention the awesome arrangement. ❤ Also, that was Kasey’s Dad, Bill, on the steel guitar. Full kudos to Eminem for his songwriting. Personally, the reason Kasey’s version affects me so much is all down to the fact that she did lose herself in the music, the moment during this performance. She is a true blue Aussie who will leave her soul bared on stage every single time. ❤

Everyone comments on the fact that the crowd stays seated. It is a Theatre venue where seating is allocated .......... plus quite some time ago there was a riot at The Star Hotel Newcastle [ a rough but great live music venue] the night it was shut down - people were tipping cars and fighting cops. I could see that some nicer venues could still have rules that you must remain in your seats. Newcastle was a rough and tumble steel town back in the day. Great beaches and nice place to live, though. Bet you never expected that what you needed was an Australian Country/Folk Singer performing her version of a rap song - her emotion is so raw - she leaves it all on the stage.
