Kasey took the opportunity during the lockdown for Covid she reworked Eminem's rap song into her own song, adding the feelings of her own trials and tribulations; such was Kasey's version, that she was given permission to upload this performance to Spotify in it's own right. This is not a cover per sa, but a rewrite; where Eminem's rap song felt more reactive, while Kasey's song felt more emotive. Kasey doesn't like to be pigeon-holed to just one genre, although her roots are in Australian country music; Kasey loves to add influences from other music genres, to help her add colour and strength to the result.
I am an American fan...have been for over 15 years...had the great pleasure to see her live in Atlanta, Ga. once years ago...best concert ever...glad to see her getting some well deserved respect in the USA...❤ all the Aussie support...this woman is a true treasure!

Aussie here. I've seen Kasey a few times, and my favorite song of hers, up until now, is "Pony", but this is next level. I'll be 1st in line for tickets when she comes back to WA, coz I gotta see this live. Kaseys whole family are extremely musical, but they out did themselves with this. It plays in my house at least 3 times a day, coz I'm addicted 😂 and I don't care who knows it (its a good thing all my neighbours work 😂). ❤ I think the best words to describe Kaseys performance are "fierce" with a side of "get out of my damn way aggression" and a squeeze of "Aussie outback attitude" 🦘🐨🤟

Solid grounding to a great career... culminating in this 'blow yer socks off' epic performance. The early pain and frustration of radio airplay knockbacks led Kasey to write 'Not Pretty Enough', which shot to the top of the charts. Ian Moss is one of Australia's most celebrated guitarists, his work is always very, very tasty and there are some impeccably recorded live performances. The album work is worth a shout as well tho. Bow River/When The War Is Over/Wild Thing (Troggs cover) are the staple live go-to songs, but 'Forever Now', especially the album/music video version will probably be more interesting for you. The outro solo is sublime.

Kasey worked out the arrangement during lockdown with her brother who is performing with her for a radio show in Australia called Like a Version where artists go into the radio station studio and do a cover live putting their own stamp on it. This was performed at the last show of her first tour after covid and it's been put together from the footage taken on the mobile phones of the crowd who asked her to perform her Like a Version live for them. She's a superstar ✨️

I used to follow a band called Bitter Sweet Alley (BSA) in the late 80s. For the most part I would see them in a bar called New York New York just a little bit north of 8 mile. I have heard of the place you mentioned but haven’t been there.

YO....I first heard Kasey on Prairie Home Companion way back when her first album was released in the early 90s. I was on the road with my band and stopped at a little record store in Prescott Arizona that very day. Been a huge fan ever since. That's her dad Bill playing the lap steel.

I really enjoyed your analysis. This version is like a play in 3 acts. Her solo with the banjo & then with the guitarist (was it her brother?) The harmonies and his guitar tone were amazing and then when she took up her pick BAM. So much control and talent and emotion. And the arrangement is amazing and brings out the quality of the original lyrics. Had to go back and listen to Eminem's original. Really loved her Dad on steel guitar too.

YO....I first heard Kasey on Prairie Home Companion way back when her first album was released in the early 90s. I was on the road with my band and stopped at a little record store in Prescott Arizona that very day. Been a huge fan ever since. That's her dad Bill playing the lap steel.

@Michael Goyette it's fairly old and was recorded from a sound check, never did it in concert, but would have to rate pretty highly amongst any sound checks ever done.

I really enjoyed your analysis. This version is like a play in 3 acts. Her solo with the banjo & then with the guitarist (was it her brother?) The harmonies and his guitar tone were amazing and then when she took up her pick BAM. So much control and talent and emotion. And the arrangement is amazing and brings out the quality of the original lyrics. Had to go back and listen to Eminem's original. Really loved her Dad on steel guitar too.
