ACE COMBAT 5 how to unlock additional aircraft & aircraft skins.

Each plane you have, has a kill meter below its name and when you fill it up all the way by using it in missions and destroying enemies, you will unlock the next plane in it's group, your kill meter progress is dependant on how many points you score during a mission(rank,landing,and refueling bonuses do not count) and how many points you need to unlock the next plane as well as the difficulty setting you use, the more challenging the setting the faster the kill meter fills up.
After beating the game you can use Free mission mode to play any mission in the game and shoot down enemy planes to unlock their skins as long as you have at least 1 of those planes in your hangar.
You can also freely choose between the Osean, and Razgriz skins, as well as any others you unlocked once you've beaten the game.
You can also find special enemy aces in some missions if you meet certain criteria, if you shoot them down you can unlock their skins for your use.

How do I unlock the non-ace special skins (the ones labeled "BL" and "YK")? I'm missing that one on a few planes.
Ah that's easy all you have to do is shoot down an enemy that flies that particular plane e.g. to get the "YK" skin for the F-15C you have to shoot down an enemy F-15C, or to get the "BL" skin for the Su-47 you have to shoot down an enemy Su-47, bear in mind you need to do this on either Normal,Hard,Expert, or Ace difficulty, it cannot be done on Easy or Very Easy.

Anyone know to unlock or find ALL enemy aces/named enemy fighters ? Having trouble getting the one hidden on 8492nd mission (mission 18+)
You have to shoot down enemies until there's only one or two of them left, the Ace should appear from the return line and head straight for you, good luck.
Hi there, the aces only appear on the missons AFTER you completed the game once.
Then go on any difficult above NORMAL and they will be there. On this video, for example, at 5:49 you can see the ace of this mission on the bottom right corner of the map, but he only appears after you've advanced a certain percentage of this mission.
Not all missions have aces tough

@CHRIST71 GAMING You have to destroy 5 special hangars found in missions 12A,12B,16A,16B,and 27, the thing is though you can only find a maximum of 3 of them during your initial playthrough if you're having trouble finding them go to gamefaqs.com and read the guides for Ace Combat 5, also bear in mind that you won't be able to buy/sell any planes for the first 4 missions when you're in story mode, this applies to any campaign playthrough, hope that helps.
Not sure if this is a dumb question, but when your in the hanger, what button do you press to change the skins?
Use the "Select" button if you're playing the Ps2 version, if you're playing the Ps4 version then you press the touch pad, bear in mind you need to beat the game at least once before you can select your skins, hope that helps.
I am curious, how do you unlock the Belkan skins for the S32, F15 SMTD, etc. I managed to get them for the YF23 and SU47. I heard you have to shoot down all SU47s or something like that, and I've looked at other sources, but i haven't found a reliable source for an answer.
For the F-15S/MTD simply complete mission 25 on either Normal,Hard,Expert or Ace difficulty(has to be either free mission or SP new game) since the Grabacr squadron flies F-15S/MTDs! for the S-32 just do the same with the final mission but you have to shoot down at least 1 of the S-32s! oh and make sure you have at least 1 of each specific plane that you're trying to get the skin for in your hangar otherwise you won't get the skin.

Is there any bonus that comes from s ranking every mission?
On Normal,Hard, and Expert difficulty you'll earn medals for finishing all missions with an "S" Rank, on Ace difficulty you'll get a secret message at the end of your final debriefing, and you'll also unlock the "Ace Master" achievement if you're playing the ps4/ps5 version.

Another question
Do I have it right that in order to unlock new planes from a certain country you have to fill up the meters of planes from said country?
For instance in my last playthrough I mostly ran american jets so that's what I only ended up unlocking
You just have to fill up the meter of the plane that precedes the one you're trying to get, e.g. you may have noticed a blank slot next to the Mirage-2000 when I was selecting everyone's planes, once the Mirage-2000's meter fills all the way up, you'll get the plane that goes in that slot, this is true for all other planes except for any plane that doesn't have any blank slots next to them.

@@nikifalcon No it was because you didn't do mission 12B Four Horsemen, you unlock the Su-27 by completing that mission.
You CAN actually unlock jets from ANY nation during the same playthrough for example you unlock the F-14,F-16C, and F/A-18C early on in the game regardless of what you do and you also unlock the Su-47 which is obviously a Russian Jet after completing mission 17 Journey home during the same playthrough.
If you're just looking to unlock the Su-27 then you need to complete mission 12B Four Horsemen, there are many videos on how to do that mission here on youtube.

The Unsung war is a good one you can get $44,000 in around 10 minutes, Sea of Chaos is another good one you can get between $30-$35,000 within 5 minutes if you're fast enough and using LASM's.

To get the xo2 do you need rank s on normal mode all missions
No you must be thinking of Ace Combat 04, but in Ace Combat 5 you need to unlock every other aircraft in the game except the FALKEN and then have at least 1 of every aircraft in your hangar and then complete 1 mission afterward to get the X-02.
Dude, what list of planes have you opened?
Are you confused about how to unlock new planes? If you look at the top-right part of the screen during the debriefing you'll see the meter beneath the Mir-2000's name filling up once it fills up all the way you unlock the next plane in that plane's group.

@@Gyxxzz1001 I think you'll need to play one more mission in each of those planes respectively and then it should unlock the next plane/planes in that specific group! I think the aircraft meters can be bugged sometimes, it might look like it's full but in truth you probably just need to destroy one more enemy target to fill it up all the way.

@@Gyxxzz1001 Yeah! it sucks I know, but it's the way it is, Ace Combat 5 has a fair amount of bugs in it that the devs didn't bother to fix.
How to open plaen FALKEN pls
You have to find and destroy all 5 FALKEN Hangars, there's one in Mission 12A,one in mission 12B, one in Mission 16A, Mission 16B, and Mission 27.

You have to destroy secret hangars that are hidden away from the battlefield in certain missions. I don't know which ones specifically but you can look them up on google
Destroy all secret hangars on any difficulty? I played oneasy mode anyway and yeah after that earn money
how to unlock all Hornet skin(F / A)
Shot down the enemy yuk F18c and f18 super hornet.
For the jammer hornet, you have to shoot down the enemy ace on mission 14 b.. Im not sure, i mean the mission which has a enemy battleship (Upor) , dessert lighting
