  • I've updated this vintage RC control unit from "RC Tech Royal" (Englewood, California) and "Victor Mark II Sail System" from an Old Marblehead / Soling50. The main winch works nice and strong and the switches are in perfect working order. This is a 40+ year old RC Winch and Switches!!

    I built a few similar to that in the early 80's before proper sail winches were invented.

    This is a bang bang model yacht winch. Usually we use a airplane transmitter with the rudder on the right stick, side to side, and the winch on the left stick going up and down. With a bang bang winch the left stick is spring centering. Pushing left transmitter stick up will let sail out. Pushing left transmitter stick down will pull sail in. The old Dubro winches worked this way also. The Dubro was a 3 stage step down geared winch and wouldn't move by pulling on the lines but was very powerful when it did move. Depending on how much your motor servo resists being pulled by the sails will dictate how much sail can be used when operating this winch. This is an older video. Would love to see how this turned out in your sailboat.

    Nice to see how they came up with clever solutions when RC electronics weren't so advanced yet.

    I love it, Complicated for a person new to all this(like me), but seems a simple reliable system

    Just wondering if those pully wheels are from a pull down window blind together with that chain. looks as if the pulley has corresponding indents, so it wont slip. Given me an idea for my aspirations to a pulley system. I think I may have seen plastic versions somewhere???

      Great observation... I think you may be right about that :)

    Probably slip under strain in high winds to be careful pinch chain see how much it can move under stress.. bit late but that's my take otherwise great setup I was still am looking for setup for twin independent sail sheet control 1 for jib and main and one for genoa or spinnaker or just have Jib and Main separate or perhaps a three mast schooner...

      Thanks for your comments ... the best place i go to to find information is rcgroups.com ... check out the boating forums. I'm sure there is someone who has done this kind of rigging. Happy sailing :)

    why is there 4 switches? i understand the two swiches on the winch but what is the servo with the two other swiches do?

    • @consumerwil
      @consumerwil  ปีที่แล้ว

      the switches attached to the servo are spring loaded, so when moved to the other end, powers on, and powers the winch to go in direction ..... when the other one is turned on, the voltage is wired to make the winch rotate in the other direction :)
