I was on a family holiday in Sydney back in January 1971 and if I remember there were 2 Hydrofoils operating painted blue and white and I remember dad took us one to Manly from Circular Quay ferry terminal. I remember we also had to go buy fares from a cashier where we were issued with metal tokens for each family member to use in turn style gates on the wharf entry. The trip on the Harbour was quick compared to going on the large Steamer ferry called South Steyne to and from Manly. We made a few trips to Manly while on our fortnight holiday the scenery was great on the Harbour but being the youngest I liked the more expensive Hydrofoil ride more than the slow large Steamer which I found was too crowded and boring after a few trips. I remember seeing the Hydrofoils passing each other while we on the slower ferry one heading to Circular Quay and one to Manly.
As a passenger, it could get a bit exciting for a few seconds when some idiot in a pleasure craft decides to cut in front. Always fun watching said idiot shaking his fist at the hydrofoil as you pass by.

There were both , the Manly fun pier is on the right as the hydrofoil reverses out from the wharf.
