I have such fond memories of going on South Steyne and Collaroy to BrokenBay and back. Wish we still had such cruises.

I did a few I these trips to Newcastle and Wollongong. By memory Id say early to mid 90s. That bloke doing the commentary was a wealth of knowledge, but hell could he talk and talk and talk. Fortunately wasn't thrown overboard.
I heard a ferry was forced to stay overnight in Newcastle one trip due to rough seas and missed the next days regular peak roster on the Manly run.
That provided the perfect excuse to end these trips. Further trips were run with private ferry companies at a premium price.

If only Collaroy could still do ocean cruises.

She could. I don’t understand why not.

@@beagle7622 because they removed her stabilisers and radar.

@@NSWSteamFan i believe the South Steyne used too. I know she was big but couldn’t this boat do it on a nice day. I definitely would go. It’s just nuts to talk about retiring them, but that’s Government beauracracy for you . What they earn in tourism would easily pay for their upkeep especially the Collaroy which is newer than the others.

      @@NSWSteamFan They didn't remove stabilisers.

@@beagle7622 The South Steyne sailed from Scotland to Australia under her own steam and regularly did ocean cruises to Broken Bay each Sunday. The reason these cruises stopped was due to the union insisting that a double crew was provided which the Government decided was too expensive.

That's nice, why they don't have services now to Newcastle/ Wollongong!?

It wouldn’t be financially viable to make that long of a trip as a commuter service.

The date was somewhere around, say the late 80s (from memory) and the cost was quite reasonable (again from memory).......Not much help I know but I'm not a very organized person.

That looks like it was filmed inb the late 80s. I think the Collaroy only came into service for the Bi-Centennial or just before?
