Being an office person myself I agree with your criteria: fine and low key design. Great choice of pens and their reviews. I’m currently trying to find my best for work. I fully agree with the Lamy 2000. I would add that although it is worth its price, it doesn't look expensive. I wouldn't be worried if I left it at the office one night
Thank you for the reply Manuel! I agree that the Lamy 2000 doesn't look particularly expensive...the brushed matte finish gives it a subtle non-flashy appearance.

Nice list, however i dont like the Pilot VP for some reason rest of the pens i like and use regularly in office including a lot of other fountain pens like my Lamy scala, my jinhao x 450 and x750 Sheaffer 300 and 100, Faber castel loom and e-motion, etc.
Hi Nitin, thank you for your comment. The Pilot VP is a great pen but certainly not for everyone as you grip the clip end of the pen.
I would like to have a Lamy Scala at some point, that is a very nice pen. I don't have much experience with Jinhao, I will take a look at them.
I've been wanting to get a fp for work and this video helped answer a few questions. Do you have any recommendations for pens with see through ink barrels. I don't want to attract too much attention either but I feel comfortable knowing how much ink I have left you know?
Thank you for the comment. If you are okay with a clear pen then I would recommend either the TWSBI Eco or a Lamy Vista. You could also get a Wing Sung 601 or a Lamy Safari; both have small ink windows.

I've used a fountain pen in my engineering office for around 20 years. My go-to has been a Rotring which is very similar to the Lamy cp1. I also use a Waterman Phileas, Lamy safari and Platinum pocket pen with EF nib. I've recently started using a Lamy Studio as well, which I really like. My criteria is they have to be inexpensive, reliable, minimal fuss, and good writers.
It sounds like you have some great workhorse pens. Which Rotring model do you have?
@@BlakesBroadcast I've had it so long I don't even remember the model name. Similar to the 400, but actually more like a non telescoping Esprit - so that would be my guess.
Here in India there are less than a dollar pens, of cello and flair series also piere Cardin penomatic, all these are specially designed for office school use, these looks like preppy, though piere Cardin pens have designer looks. One great thing about all these is that nib feed never go dry in even an year time

The lamy cp1 twin pen(d1 ballpoint + 0.5 pencil) compliments the cp1 fountain pen.
Hi Louie, thank you for the comment! Do you have the CP1 twin pen? I know they also make a CP1 "tri pen" which has two ballpoints and a mechanical pencil.
@@BlakesBroadcast yes. Makes for a good set when out for the day. The fountain pen also is a stealthy pen when combined with the z50 nib in black.
I always enjoy showing who the successful person is in the office (owner) with a nice 149 or maybe my cheaper M1000.

I’ve never had any luck with wing sung pens. I don’t find them to be reliable writers. The lamy cpi is absolutely hideous and I would never use that one. The lamy 2000 is a great choice! I love mine. I only have the EF in stainless steel version and that is too heavy for work so I may switch nibs and put the EF in my other Lamy 2000. I don’t find the pilot metropolitan to be a work horse pen. I find it skips and has hard starts especially with heavy use. The pilot vanishing point is an excellent choice! I have several but the one I use for work is the white carbonesque with the fine nib. A few other work pens very much worth mentioning are the platinum curidas and the pilot kakuno in EF. The platinum curidas is a great workhorse of a pen and very reliable and great for meeting notes with its retractable nib. The pilot kakuno is a great work horse pen because it is utterly reliable and the EF nib is perfect on cheap work copy paper and legal pads with no feathering! I have a desk drawer at work where I keep a small collection of cartridges and ink bottles and a syringe for easy filling of my pens in the office. Thanks for this video. It’s the first one of yours I’ve seen.
Thanks for the comment Tracie! I appreciate the feedback. I think the CP1 is the best looking pen of the lot. It is very plain though, so I could see it not being to everyones taste.
I will have to get a Platinum Curidas at some point. It is on the pricey side but I am hoping I can find one used for a good price with a clear body.

OK, that's interesting. I'm not an office worker, so perhaps I don't understand your reasoning. Why are you so against fountain pens "looking like fountain pens" or being "flashy"? Is there some sort of shaming conformity in an office environment that I'm unaware of?
Hi Gary, thank you for the comment! I personally don't want to draw attention to myself with flashy pen. When I worked in accounting I worked in an office with over 800 people and I never saw a fountain pen. Working in tech I also have never seen a co-worker using a fountain pen.
There is no shame in using a flashy fountain pen in the office. I prefer to be known for the quality of my work product rather than as the guy with flashy fountain pens...that is my preference though; I likely could be known for both without a problem.
@@BlakesBroadcast yeah, that makes sense. I guess it's an environment that you have to have experience of to really "get" it. Like I said, I've never worked in that environment, as I've always worked more in the arts and music. That's probably where my ostentatious side comes from. lol
@@Anton_the_Vampire people also don’t like to have flashy pens if they are in a corporate environment and where a flashy pen can get noticed and stolen. I have about 250 flashy fountain pens and I’d love to use them at work but I’d be heartbroken if they got stolen or lost and a platinum curidas is just more easily replaced and less heartache if lost.

The stand defeats the purpose of detracting attention to your fountain pen at the office. Also an easy target for pen thieves, asks them to Take Me, Please.

The moment he 'said no screw caps' my interest dropped 70% for me there is some thing about taking time to unscrew the while collecting your thoughts that makes it classy
Otherwise given the factors of running around, carrying files/ no free hand, losing a pen and cheap copy paper surely I will stick to my parker jotter ball pen 😀

Hi ! I use fountain pens all the time, including in the office.
My favourite for the office is the Pilot Custom 92, because :
- it comes in my favourite nib size, MF
- it's a good reliable writer, no fuss
- the seal is excellent, it will write on the spot even after being left in my drawer for weeks
- despite being a good gold nib pen, it doesn't look fancy at all, with it's plain demonstrator body and plain shape - so it doesn't scream "expensive" and that limits the risks of it being subjected to other people's envy
- it's a piston filler easy to refill with minimum fuss, and contains a large amount of ink so doesn't need to be refilled very often.
Alternative picks :
- The Lamy 2000 for some of the same reasons (although I would argue that the Lamy 2000 does look fancier than the Pilot 92 demo (the latter, frankly, doesn't look like much).
The Lamy 2000 has the advantage of being a little more classy which can in turn attract more attention, which can be good or bad depending on your circumstances.
The Lamy 2000 is ALS sturdier than the Pilot 92, and will survive a fall from a desk, provided it doesn't fall directly on its nib.
- the Twsbi Eco, for most of the same reasons as the Pilot 74. The Eco is a steel nib but it performs wonderfully, and it comes in a large variety of colors - if you want to stay inconcuspious, choose the black version or the all demo version.
- the Twisbi Diamond which has all the qualities of the Eco, but looks a little more fancy (again that can be good or bad depending on your circumstances).
- the Pilot Vanishing point is great for short notes followed by long moments without writing, since it's retractable nib clics open and close, and there is no cap in your way. So in some instances it's really the best choice.
However, except for situations when I will have to only take a few short notes at infrequent intervals, I usually don't go towards the Vanishing point for two reasons :
- my preferred nib size isn't available, and the F feels too toothy whilst the M feels to broad for my taste
- it doesn't provide the best seal, so it will occasionally skip when starting to write after leaving the pen in a drawer.
The Lamy 2000, Pilot Vanishing point and Twsbi Diamond are a tad heavier in the hand than the Eco and the Pilot 92, which can help with your choice, depending on if you prefer a heavier pen in your hand or a lighter pen.
My office preference goes to the Pilot 92, but I have used all these and more, with success, in my office .
