    I had a seam like that leaking. I took the time to pry open the seam a bit, and cleaned it thoroughly with alcohol. Then took a Marine Adhesive and Sealant and I mushed it into the open seam as thoroughly as possible, then I hammered the seam back closed, and wiped everything clean. It's been 11 years now, still dry as a bone!

    JB water weld is awesome stuff!
    Someone replaced most all of the factory rivets that penetrated the hull for the floor stiffeners with SST nuts and bolts using bathroom caulk for sealant. Well, it leaked badly!
    I took off the hardware, cleaned everything, hit the hull penetration with some light heat then, reassembled it all with a 1/16 think slice of water weld mixed up and placed under the washer. Also added some more on the top of the washer.
    Then used Rustoleum Gloss Black oil paint on the water side of the hull. That was 10 years ago. Watertight baby!
    Let the fishing commence! 😃

    Great job! I have used Flex Seal on a few different aluminum boats with excellent results. I used one of those cheap "chip" paint brushes to "paint it on" over all the seams and rivets. I do all the rivets on outside of boat and inside. Take your time on the inside especially if you plan on putting a floor in. Always great results. Enjoy the outdoors young man!

    You need to use JB Weld Marine two part adhesive. Clean the area good and apply the JB Weld, it will set up and you can drill and tap it...very strong and waterproof

      Jb weld marine didn't stick well to the aluminum for me, surface was roughed up to clean aluminum then used a paint prep cleaner. I used goop brand marine sealer/adhesive and it has held out really well, sticks good and has some flex so it doesn't crack or pop off when aluminum flexes.

    If it's simple and works, it ain't stupid. I did something similar with my 63 HaberCraft 9 ft, I used a can of TremClad paint. Sealed the leakes and showed my where they used to be.

    Glad the flexseal worked for your application. As some other people pointed out, you used the wrong jb weld. Go with the marine weld for your application, it’s rated to be submerged under water and for water applications. Hell, even the jb waterweld would have worked. But the marine weld is spreadable and more like a glue or paste, similar to the flexseal consistency

  • @zackkeith967

    You used the wrong jbweld. Should used jbwaterweld. You could have used it to seal the leak while you where in the boat and it was leaking.

  • @nevisstkitts8264
    @nevisstkitts8264 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Did you measure the crack gap size? One just looks way bigger than 15 mil: that's the max that the specific JB weld product you're using is rated for ...
    Seeing as how you have the boat out of the water and under cover, why no prep of the cracks? SOP is to DP, then drill a crack-termination at each end, prep for selected repair treatment. I've used Flex-Seal and it is reliable if the prep instructions are followed ...

      Yes it held up great all summer and fall! I went out on it about 2 times a week and never had any issues. I have not been on it yet this spring as the lake is still frozen :( but I have it sitting outside in the snow so surviving that will be the ultimate test.

    Wtf. Try cleaning the area where jb weld goes. Get marine jb weld or jb kwik weld.
    The split at the front was filled with jb then gone over with flex seal. Flex seal would not fix a split that wide.
