  • The Boston Celtics are the most recent NBA champions. Every year that a new team wins, NBA teams tend to build their rosters either in imitation of what they have or a way to combat it. The LA Clippers have a similar duo in terms of play style to the Boston Celtics duo. But why did the younger version get to the title first?
In this episode, die hard Los Angeles Clippers fan and Host Darian Vaziri talks about the differences between what the Celtics have done with their duo and why they lifted the Larry O'Brien trophy before Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.

I think the big thing for Boston vs LAC is that the Jay’s really did just get better at playmaking. Even if their scoring numbers were down

I don't believe he has that type of talent to be honest.
I actually think he needs to be more of a reserve big but he is a very capable starting center and if he does continue to start for The Clippers, i think the team needs to play bigger, shift Kawhi and PG to the 2 and 3 respectively, acquire a stretch 4 that can also rebound and defend, with Big Zu not being a featured offensive player....
If Big Zu is the starting center, i'm not sure Terrance Mann should start at shooting guard?
I think they might need to be bigger.
If The Clippers want to start Kawhi, PG, Harden, and Mann, i think they might need to shift to a spacing type 5....

Veterans that contribute valuable minutes as well as young upcoming players that hit shots. Everyone knows their roles and game plan. They play a very simple game. Strong defense aggressive offense and a core of young talent. Everything the clippers don’t have.
Clippers need to move on from PG Harden Russ and kawhi. Bring new players that have drive have that team first mindset. We need athletic players defensively minded players and shooting. Holiday was my finals mvp he can do everything and is great at it. Clippers need to rebuild

I think that was the point of Gm Brad Steven's moves.
Building more of a strong team, with a very tough top 6 takes a lot of pressure off the top two stars.
I think the main issue for The Clippers is the blown opportunity in 2019/2020 and then the injuries(Kawhi 2020/2021, 2022/2023, and 2023/2024.....PG 2022/2023)
I'm not sure a true assessment can be made until you see the Leonard/George duo get another healthy run like 2019/2020....?
From that perspective i can understand why Gm Lawrence Franks would like to risk running it back with Kawhi, PG, and Harden.
It looks like a 50-55 win trio if healthy....
If we look at that trio as at least somewhat similar to Tatum, Brown, and Holiday, then i think you go to the next 3, as The Celtics go six deep in high quality players...
Their other players are solid role players, nothing more.
So White, Portzingis, and Horford......is that trio far superior to the trio of Mann, Zu, and Powell, who make up the top six of The Clippers rotation?
Powell and Mann typically play more minutes than Russ, so Russ in this scenario is more like Pritchard.....
One advantage The Celtics have in their second trio is that two of them are bigs that can space the floor and shoot. Of course White is a far better defender than Powell but Powell is a far better offensive player, so that probably is a wash.
Portzingis and Horford are simply better players than Big Zu and Terrance Mann.
So even healthy for a full postseason, The Clippers might still need upgrades in their starting unit.
      Tatum and Brown did.

    • @sammyslam1
      @sammyslam1 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I think you already have better guards than Smart.
Markkanen as a stretch 4 would be interesting, but i think the only way to get him is with a PG sign and trade, with either The Sixers or Magic as a third team because Utah would not want PG, and PG would want to go to a contender and only agree to a sign and trade that sends him to a contender.
Jonathan Issac could probably be acquired with a James Harden sign and trade with The Magic because they clearly need a better pg and better 3 pt shooting....
A Big Zu/Jonathan Issac frontline sounds fantastic on paper but neither can space the floor, so i'm not sure how good the offense would be?

    • @RoFlo.
      @RoFlo. 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@sammyslam1 Jonathan Isaac shot 37.5% from 3 and 72% from the line last season so he can space even his shooting mechanics look good.
Smart may not get better numbers then Harden or Russ but to say that we have better players is a stretch, Smart impacts both sides of the ball especially on D at an elite level, younger, and does all the little things to win, I’m sure if we did a poll it would be smart over any point guard we have all day
But yeah I do agree with all the sign and trade stuff you said, it would be the only way to convince PG to do it

    • @sammyslam1
      @sammyslam1 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@RoFlo. ....i like Marcus Smart, i just think Russ and Harden are better. I think both are closer to a Holiday type player than Smart but i definitely like Smart as a basketball player.
Personally i always saw him more as a reserve type, a 16-24 min grinder that can deepen your 8-9 man postseason rotation but that "could" limit you, if he is one of your top 6......
I still see both Harden and Russ as top 6 rotation players on a contending level team, but better slotted to the 3/4/5 part of the rotation rather than a 1 or 2, even though both have been very good as both a #1 and #2....
I'm thinking more in terms of winning a title. Point guards generally are not built to be the #1 or #2 options on championship teams.
Actually i commented in the offseason that "if" The Clippers traded for James Harden, they should also switch their offensive scheme to a five out offensive system, so they could start the 4 HOF level players together with a five that spaced the floor....
I believe if they bring back Kawhi, PG, Harden, and Russ, that they should start them together and find a center that can space the floor.....not have a traditional point guard and utilize their 4 best play makers.
If there was a way to do this while retaining Norman Powell that would be the best option but a Big Zu, PJ Tucker, Norman Powell combo package could bring back probably a spacing center and a power forward...
That would also allow The Clippers to start a youth movement behind the stars with Terrance Mann, Bones Hyland, Kobe Brown, Amir Coffey, Brandon Boston Jr, and Kai Jones getting playing time as key reserves....

@@sammyslam1 I like your detailed insight but you could of not been any more wrong if you tried, to say that Harden and Russ are a lot closer to Jrue then Smart is crazy to me, when has Harden ever played defense like that? When has Harden ever done the little things to win? Russ can’t throw the ball into the ocean at this point, you sound like a real STAN right now that Dimedropper is always talking about. We were rolling in the beginning of the season with no Harden and had way better continuity
Do you really honestly think that if they had a stretch big that the Harden and Russ can both start together without hurting the team? Did you not see how they played together it was horrible, Russ and Harden both off the ball was horrible, defensively it was horrible, the your turn my turn offense was horrible, it was ugly what are you talking about…

first difference is that Celtics are a great team 🙂
Also theyre top 5 in D and O
    they play 5 out
they can switch everything on D
    theyre young and athletic
... and then we come to health - wait KP didnt play almost whole playoff and they won without effort
So health is not main issue, all Clippers players are over the hill. they have no athletic guys in their top 3. In theory Claw is a great defender , but in reality those days are behind him , same goes for PG, Harden never was the defender, Westbrook of the bench same.
This is a failed experiment, but Clippers are now stuck, cause blowing it up is not an option.
Its gonna suck for a long time in clipperland and then its gonna get worse.

I was actually surprised Coach Lue didn't attempt to force Dallas to defend more on the perimeter by using Daniel Theis as a small ball five.
I just think he had a game plan and stuck to it, which i considered to be a bit stubborn(like the previous postseason in not trying to use Robert Covington)
I think being 2-2 he was very confident going into the final 3 games with 2 home games left.
I guess being down 2-3 and needing a win to extend the series, he considered PJ Tucker as more of an ace in the hole than Theis and to be fair, PJ has more solid postseason play that warranted confidence.
I didn't mind him playing PJ but why not go five out by starting both PJ and Theis, using Big Zu against the reserve unit rather than Plumlee?
