As someone who predominantly uses very thin/fingering weight yarn because i like lightweight drapey garments, LMAO. It will kick your ass with how long it takes, but the end result is so worth it. Plus I don't have to make videos every week so I can take as long as I want.
Seeing Totoro makes me smile. I recently lost my beloved cat of almost 13 years and seeing your lovable cat and watching your videos has really helped ❤️
i work mostly with cotton and bamboo yarns and plant fiber yarns are SO. SLIPPERY. its super hard to get them to stick!!! i have a trick but it takes FOREVERRRRRRRRRRRR so it's definitely not something that makes it easier lmfao, but i leave my yarn ends about twice as long as i normally would, then i sew in as normal but instead of cutting off the remainder i split the yarn in half by pulling apart the strands and then i tie a knot in those around a stitch, sew in a little farther and tie another knot, sew a little farther and tie another knot, then when i cut it i leave just maybe a cm of ends left. i haven't had anything unravel on me yet, but yeah it's super meticulous and a whole long process. at least when i go back to acrylic or wool sewing in those ends feels like a vacation lol!
That is such a good idea! I will have to use it on my next project 😊
I've found that my back panels end up shorter because the front has to cover my lovely lady lumps, ya know? I've started (sometimes) making my back panels a little longer (like an inch or two) and then not attaching that last little bit. Kind of like a slit in a skirt so you can have space to walk without the skirt riding up.
It’s the rayon that is slippery. A bamboo cotton mix is great
Also I saw someone else use this yarn and the first thing they said about it was that it split like crazy, especially with an inline hook (they're pointier). Apparently splitty yarn works better with a less pointy hook (tapered). You look like you're using a tapered hook so idk, I guess that didn't help. I think they also recommended a bamboo hook as opposed to metal. Needless to say this yarn has caused other people headaches for the same reason 😂
Yeah i used a tapped hook with this project! But i should try a hook made out of bamboo for my next project!
I'm so glad I watched this bc I've been curious about this yarn 😂 bullet : dodged
OMG Totoro is so cute
what I do when I use rayon, is I put fabric glue on the ends (before tying), then I tie, let the glue dry, then after I make my knot, I use a toothpick (or a small makeup brush, and apply a little more glue on the finished knot. I haven't had anything come undone so far. Love the orange yarn, the shirt came out great!
So cute! Maybe try gluing the ends in with a bit of fray stop?
The white stripe joke got me 😂😂
😂😂
I’ve found that with thicker/stiffer yarn, you can improve the drape of the crochet fabric by working it in some warm water and cheap hair conditioner, letting it soak for an hour or two, then drying in a garment bag in the dryer or air drying. It makes the project so much softer.
Your cat is adorable! Your top came out great in spite of the yarn choice. Last year I had made 3 tops from NOB HILL Bamboo Breeze. It's a size 2 fine. It was on clearance sale at Herrschners, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it. Once in a while it would split and bunch like yours. I had to crochet more slowly than normal. I also had trouble tying it. I have worn and laundered my favorite top several times with no problems. I believe I paid 99 cents for 129 yards. Less than a penny a yard. For that price I was willing to put up with the inconvenience.
The emergency run to multiple yarn stores is so relatable!
Love the yarn rant at the end! It’s good to know your thoughts on it, don’t think we get it easily in uk, probably a good thing 😂
I really like your top 🥰
Totally makes sense why everyone says make notes on what you do when making garments with multiple panels/pieces so you remember what did on one side so you can do it the same on the other
The knots, try fabric glue. It's really nice even if you didn't like using the yarn
I liked that yarn - the feel outweighed the multitude of cons when I crocheted a V shaped scarf with it.
4:38 she feels bonita
I recently used bamboo yarn and I think bamboo yarns are slippery and difficult to work with it.
However, I actually liked the weighted feeling and softness of yarn and vests I made look great!
I still have many skeins left over because I always buy more than I need. So I think mesh bag sounds wonderful! ❤
23:43 I think bamboo is a better sock yarn. My aunt had bought me some bamboo socks. I fell in love with them 😅. But me crocheting bamboo socks… um no 😂. With the trouble you had with bamboo yarn, I know I would never finish the project.
The final top is so cute! it reminds me of a 1950's Bowling shirt : ) so retro
Ok this will be a long comment, THANK YOU, you taught me how to crochet. This has been the most helpful thing I've ever watched and I mean that. Now I have been crocheting for 8 months and now have my own small business, and will be starting an etsy soon. THANK YOU
Looks great. Love the colors! Like the original one as well. Such a pity so heavy!
I just finished a Tunisian crochet tie for my son with that exact yarn. So drapey and soft bu yes, very splitty. Turned out good. Your top is cute and looks comfy!
I'm starting my first shirt (raglan pattern from ABoC here on YT) and I'm using YarnArt Jeans yarn, which is cotton and acrylic blend. I like using it to make coasters, but I figure it should make a decent shirt, too. We'll just have to see. It's a thin yarn, so my WIP is already very drapey.
Love your crocheting videos🩷 this came out soooo cute!!! you inspired me to start my own channel!
this is so gorgeous! If you want to eliminate the back rising up you can add short rows to the back panel at the back of neck or at the bottom and it will help!
oops someone else has said this already! I can't believe how fast you crochet, I love your videos
Omg I used the same yarn for a daisy stitch bolero project and I had the same problems, I ended up frogging the whole thing because I was so frustrated! I'm glad it's not just me 😅
Thank you for the video!
Can you recommend yarn that's good for top-down patterns for sweaters and dress?
Maybe next time you make a jumper/cardigan with this boxy shape you could try using short rows on the back so it doesn't sit up higher. I think it's more common in knitting but is definitely a thing in crochet too.
I just started crocheting with sock yarn and it feels so fiddly but I love the drape so think it will be worth it.
What brand is that thin brown yarn in this video? I need some yarn like that for my punch needling .
I'm making a purse and was wondering how you make the liners for your bags. I don't have a sewing machine and I don't really know how to sew but any tips would really help!
if you wanna use this yarn, i suggest a double chain when you fasten off,
lt silky soft has been one of my favorites bc its so soft and shiny, but i would be lying if i said the weaving in wasn't a pain lol.
Im making a fourth of July shirt and almost bought that exact yarn for it. So glad I didn't!!
That is so pretty ❤
That fabric Michelle! 🙀😻
you should do a video where totoro picks your yarn colors/weights and make a scrap project
oh or a cat sweater for totoro !!
I'm making a wrap skirt with that yarn right now 😊
Not my favorite yarn to work with either, not sure I could do a whole top with it. Of course, I’m a plus size gal so there’s that, too.
So glad I get to watch a video early!! been catching them a week or month later and binge a bunch of videos XDD ❤❤
Hello,
Aside from the yarn you used, that turned out great. 🧶🧶🧶
oohh yayay new video!
Is there a pattern available
totoro took me out 💀
❤❤❤
Oooooo what is happening with Hobbi
I just don’t like ordering yarn that i can’t feel/see in person lol
a good way to make knots instead of triple knotting it , is doing one knot and then on your second one wrap it around twice and that seems to work pretty well for me🫶
