They say that carotone cream contains hydroquinone, but I recently bought a jar of carotone and hydroquinone is not in the ingredients list, does this matter?

Yes they took hydroquinone off the market in the us however if u have a jar it has a unique smell it’s in there regardless if it’s listed or not
