      In fact, when Yang tells her the equivalent of "you're too privileged to understand", it's not far off from what Blake told her in volume 1 when her and Weiss started fighting about faunus. Back then, Weiss replied angrily pointing her finger "how dare you assume!"... instead here Weiss is incredibly understanding, tactful and patient

    I just love Weiss' VA. When the situation calls for it, she can sound so calm, collected, and thoughtful. But we've also seen her yell, scream, and order commands like a princess! That convo with Yang is so much of what I love about RWBY. You could and would actually have that conversation with someone going through a hard time. It's not grandiose or one-sided. It's just the reality of their situations. I haven't noticed it before, but Blake looked into the trees when she told Sun to go without her, she must've known she was being watched. That's a great point about Illia not having Blake to keep her less cult-y, because I'm pretty sure when Blake fell for Adam she literally never left his side. She went from having a cult identity to seeing the cult identity in another person I think. And we can see in the trailer that Blake and Illia used to be close, used to talk about their pasts. I think that all stopped when Blake became entranced by Adam. Amazing discussion as always guys, you guys are spot on every time and more! :)

  • @spadeas49
    @spadeas49 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +32

    Blake and Ilia are the mirror of each other, Ilia is what Blake would be if she had stayed at Adam's side. During Ghira's speech, Ilia calls the Belladonas "cowards", the same insult that Blake said to her parents when they left the White Fang, they are also two faunus capable of and who passed themselves off as human. But the difference comes from the fact that Blake, by leaving the White Fang, found a new family with her friends and still had her parents to return to, Ilia no longer has anyone, the White Fang IS her new family. And I suppose that for many of Adam's followers, this is the case, people without families who see the White Fang as such and would do anything to please that family, even if it means being mistreated there or going to the against our beliefs because we do not want to be rejected, by the only group that accepts us.
    But hey, a lot of what I just said is just extrapolation and interpretation, but that's also what I like about RWBY, is that it gives us room for that.

    So I think in episode 2 I mentioned them cutting the pilot talking about his husband because they didn’t want their first (openly) queer character to immediately die.
    So here’s Ilia.
    This is also the episode that created (or cemented) the fan theory that Weiss brings drinks to people she’s caring for because the only kindness she ever saw in her childhood was from Klein.

    This episode is a big part of why Weiss is best girl. Her character growth is really well done.
    In addition to her feelings for Blake, Ilia also lost her parents in a dust mine accident, so that's a big factor in the path she's chosen.

    The maturity and insight Weiss showed this episode was amazing, and I still feel that what she said establishes an important theme that will continue into the following seasons. "The entire time Blake was at Beacon, she was afraid to open up to people. She tried to keep her past separate from us, to protect us. Eventually those walls she put up came down, and the moment they did, the one thing she was afraid of actually happened. The universe proved her right."
    I feel like there's a nicely subtle implication that Ilia's "partners" on this assignment are also there to make sure she doesn't soften and let Blake escape.

  • @theevilsmurf88
    @theevilsmurf88 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Weiss is the obvious choice to have this conversation with Yang. I know it's a while back but the beginning of the white trailer says: "Everyone is entitled to their own sorrow, for the heart has no metric or form of measure. And all of it...irreplaceable."
    They are easily overlooked or forgotten but those trailer quotes really speak to each of the characters at their core.

  • @Selisu1

    I also liked Weiss's body language with Yang. She sat apart from her first, then after she told her story of loneliness, she went to sit with Yang. We're different, but then we're the same. Just a stellar scene all around.

  • @SajuukCor

    You can feel that Yang practiced that "leave me alone for a bit" speech for Ruby. Thankfully she was caught off-guard with Wiess coming to check on her.

  • @BGTitanAvatar
    @BGTitanAvatar 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    On your comments about how Yang wouldn’t have listened to Ruby, there’s also still the fact that Yang raised Ruby, and has always tried her best to not let Ruby see the cracks. V3 was obviously a big exception where so much had happened that she couldn’t hide anymore. But now that they’re back together she probably wouldn’t want to show Ruby that side of herself again.
    Weiss on the other hand, she’s able to relate her feelings of loneliness to Yang’s, and then use that to make her case in Blake’s defense like you said. Which, god I love that whole conversation. This is one of my favorite episodes in the show still and it’s because of that whole interaction. Both voice actresses killed it and the instrumental of Path to Isolation in the background. Ugh! So good.
    “How can I be there for her if she doesn’t let me? What if I needed her here for me?” Owwwwww… Baby girl…. All she wanted was for Blake to be there for her and for her to be able to support Blake. Which is big for Yang to admit that she wanted someone to lean on as well.
    And as you pointed out, Blake’s show of growth was so good. I’m so proud.
    Finally I want to give it up to Cherami Leigh as the voice of Ilia. She does righteous anger so well and nailed her big scene here. A small note of clarification: Ilia is not doing this now because Blake didn’t return her feelings. She was just using that reveal to say “you didn’t know me as well as you thought you did. You missed this huge thing.”

    I can kind of get Yang's perspective. Sure, Blake wasn't the one to wound her, but she was _directly_ involved. If not for her being in the position she was at the time- if not for her baggage, in the form of Adam, _Yang would still have both arms._ It's like a crippled soccer player turned coach. Sure, it was a freak car accident that took their legs, but that won't stop them from remembering the worst parts of what happened, every time they look at the road, or down at their legs/stumps- and NOTHING is going to get them their limbs back. Life is never going to be the same, and we, as a whole, tend to associate every aspect of what happened, _with_ what happened.
    Plus, imagine now, that your _best friend_ abandoned you in your time of need, almost _immediately_ after you sacrificed so much, to help them in theirs. To the point that just the _memory_ of what happened, shakes you to your core.

      Well...there's more to that with Yang but you learn that in later volumes. I don't want to say anymore since it will spoil things LOL. But overall she NEVER blamed Blake for the loss of her arm. Just the abandonment. And it was definitely her way of feeling rejected which, based on Yang's past issues felt like it even if Blake was trying to keep her safe in her own way. I can't wait til these reactors get to Volume 6 and beyond for Blake and Yang's journey.

    My GOD Yang really put herself out there this episode. So many of the reasons for her being who she is was given new context here. The fact that both her and Blake put so much of the blame on themselves for what goes wrong, then try to hide behind masks of preservation and/or strength is crazy. So many characters tackle issues from different angles and backgrounds.

    Oh this is a top fav episode of mine love weiss and how much shes grown, although ive always loved her and her character, seeing her grow and letting the ice melt on her heart is so beautiful at least she still has her icy personality when she wants to. But her talk with yang i loved them most out of alot of weiss moments because she opens up to yang and you dont normally see weiss open up like this, as well as yang hardly talking about this stuff, honestly their whole team kinda doesn't share how they feel. Anyways yeah i love this scene it also helps you understand both of them even more heart to hearts are always beautiful to me. Overall makes me like freezerburn 🥶 even more 🤍💛 we don't get many of these moments between them nor do we with blake and ruby, little bit of weiss and blake interactions with each other but i treasure the moments we do get.
    All 4 of them didn't have a great life and still don't but at least they have each other love the found family trope so i see them as a big ol found family 😊.
    It is sad to see any of them cry yang especially her missing blake, but after what happened they are both hurting, yang maybe a bit more but I do complete understand both sides i still just wish blake had stayed but you can't change what happened hopefully they recover that relationship (i know if they do or not ofc but i won't spoil anything for anyone).
    Loneliness does suck like hell so these characters must feel terrible because i know most of them like team rwby sometimes feel very lonely and it hurts my heart.
    Love that blake is learning too, that she can tell people she trusts that she needs help.
    Blake and ilia i love their story arc it was so interesting to know she liked blake that way, i love ilia but i was sad the whole time knowing shes still on the wrong side of this war and i hate it come on ilia girl 😢. (Love her va too so much, i keep thinking lucy from fairy tail lol) and sun (as sting from fairy tail) just find it funny how many good vas they got for rwby.
    My thoughts today are so rambly and random so i apologize i hope you can understand what i mean 😅.
    Anyways until next time i cant wait for more. ❣️🌹

    Machiavelli could've told them. Fear doesn't snuff out hate. Fear masks hate until the hate is larger than the fear. At that point the hate boils over, and it doesn't matter how afraid you are. Love overpowers hate, but can easily transform into it. The only reliable way for hatred to die is for everyone who feels that hatred to die, and the only way to do that without generating more hate is time. Logic, reason, understanding, none of those overcome hatred, as history has proved time and time again.

    Amazing reaction as always. It's funny, whenever I watch this episode I always remember that when I saw Weiss the first time, I thought "this is going to be the typical rich and annoying girl who thinks she's better than everyone else just because of her status or her money" and seeing her now, I'm happy to see how she has evolved, just like Blake, who little by little is learning to trust her friends more and not do everything alone.
    By the way, since it's almost December, I have a reaction suggestion, it would be great to see your reaction to a song by the group Sabaton called "Christmas Truce", I've seen a lot of people making reactions to this song and I think it's appropriate for the season, keep up the good work. 😁

    *WEAPONS*
    - Corsac's & Fennec's Cyclone and Inferno (daggers + wands)
    - As I said before, Yang is clearly associating Blake's abandonment with Raven's. It's probably worsened, now that Yang knows what Raven is like...
    - So now that you know that Weiss's mother has been drinking just to slowly drown away her sorrows, I guess I can tell you her reaction to Jacques's manipulative abuse - "Freeze", AKA sinking into seclusion, doing what she can to numb her pain by her lonesome. Weiss, Winter, Whitley, and their mother have suffered from Jacques's domineering behavior, all in their own ways.
    - In a way, Ilia's old crush on Blake highlights how much harder it is for her to betray Blake like this.
    - No, the scrolls just have translucent screens. You're just seeing the backside of Blake's scroll.

Currently, DND just uploaded ep. 8 of Vol 5, with 6 eps left - and they are usually a few eps ahead (as far as recording/reacting), so even if they start watching Chibi now, they would have (probably a half season at a time), they would be done with Vol 5 before starting season 3.

    I kind of wish Ilia's motivation didn't have any romantic roots with Blake just cus it feels kind of cliche or cheap, but what she said about "others stand by and let the hate happen!" is pretty true, and I feel like it gives more sympathy to what her thought process is.

      Sun followed Blake without consent. That is considered stalking. And his intentions were good but he has no perception of boundaries and can't read the room. He's like the representation of most guys who don't know women. And yet they try too hard that it only repels us women.
      But yeah, Sun was trying to help. He just needs someone to keep spelling it out for him because he really is a clueless himbo....loveable but clueless when it comes to girls.

    • @DocMicrowave
      @DocMicrowave 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      mriv5254. I don't see it that way. There was no ill intent on Sunn's part for following Blake. His actions were no different then a person who is concerned about another's well being who is clearly exhibiting concerning behavior.
      He knew Blake's mental ad emotional state was very concerning, after seeing people and friends hurt and worse. Running away without explanation. He didn't know what she might do to herself.
      According to webster's definition of stalking -
      "a person who stalks : a person who pursues someone obsessively and aggressively to the point of harassment"
      Sunn fit none of those descriptors. He was not obsessive. He was not aggressive. He tried to keep a discrete distance. (though he slipped up).
      He was concerned about not only her well being, but her safety as well, as he knew she could be a target by the Fang.
      Sometimes you have to lookout for a friend in mental turmoil. Even if that friend did not ask for it at the time.
      I believe in V5x5 Blake acknowledged and appreciated Sunn for not giving up on her when she hit her lowest point and ran.
      So that is my interpretation. Some prefer to call the act of Sunn following Blake without her permission stalking. But I do not use that term here. Preferring not to diminish the seriousness of the term for real stalkers.
      I reiterate, Sunn is not a Stalker.

    • @djsaucy_tonight
      @djsaucy_tonight 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DocMicrowave And the other definition is:
      1.pursue or approach stealthily.
      "a cat stalking a bird"
      Cambridge Dictionary also describes it as:
      "the act of following a person or animal as closely as possible without being seen or heard."
      I know he had good intentions. I specifically said that in my last response even . But of course, men just seem to NOT understand when they're being intrusive or not. Sun was incognito in a hood/Cape. That's creepy. Really, until V5, Sun had a really bad habit of ignoring Blake’s wishes, and imposing himself on her without her consent. It’s not just the boat. Invasiveness is a common thing I noticed about men that I dated and even befriended and they would ALWAYS mistaken their act as a noble thing. Yes, the intentions might not be malicious but men have to learn to accept that sometimes women are uncomfortable with this approach.
      Considering that this was a script written by a man it's understandable. And it was intentional of Miles Luna to write him this way to show the lack of synergy BUT to also show that Sun was just VERY naive and didn't have a lot of experience with women. Just keep in mind this is the same guy who climbed a wall to sneak a peak into a dorm room and shock Team RWBY of his presence back in Volume 2. So this is another example of being completely clueless and invasive. He might be surrounded by girls considering his attractive looks but that doesn't mean a thing when it comes to knowledge about how to treat women. Kali is about as annoyingly intrusive too but at least its her daughter and husband (reference for V4).
      By pushing yourself on someone, sometimes you do the opposite effect. And this was HIS lesson to learn as well. He might be a minor character ( in other words he's not even a deuterogonist as that role goes to Team JNR) but he had to learn how to sometimes back off. Basically Blake had to learn how to open up and Sun had to learn to tone it down. Which he sort of did by the end of V5 but only by a little bit. He also had to learn responsibility and realize he was abandoning his own team which he finally realized at the beginning of V6 and finally had some self awareness.
      That's the thing about guys. The lack of awareness and learning how to read certain people. Sun had a taste of someone who was offended by that and while Blake accepted that Sun didn't give up on her it didn't mean that it was only a lesson for Blake to learn but also for Sun to not always push uncomfortable boundaries and also learn that there are moments of privacy that people need. The info that Sun had was important but there were more subtle ways to inform Blake while she spent time with her father.
      Basically he acts before he thinks but hopefully he took that lesson and ran with it in any potential Volume 10 set in Vacuo. Especially since he should be at least 20 like most of Team RWBY by the tome V10 happens. That's still a young age where people can still act juvenile but Hunstman/Huntresses tend to grow up fast mentally and emotionally during an apocalypse/war.

      @DocMicrowave 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@djsaucy_tonight Keep in mind that the "other definition" you mentioned uses the example of one animal intent on devouring another animal. Again, I don't believe that applies here with Sunn and Blake.
      Sunn had no intention of doing Blake any harm. And it is clear that Blake was not in fear of Sunn doing any harm to her. Her expression was one of annoyance. She did not want Anyone to care about her. (She expresses this in a later chapter.)
      I understand the point you are trying to convey with the Cambridge Dictionary definition. But you left off the rest of the definition. The complete definition is "a person or animal that follows an animal as closely as possible without being seen or heard, usually in order to catch or kill it"
      Again, Sunn had no intention to do that or any kind of harm to Blake. He was concerned, simply looking out for a friend who appeared and acted out of sorts and even reckless. Afraid she would run afoul of danger in her emotional state. And Blake was not in fear of Sunn. She was annoyed that he cared.
      As for Sunn leaving his team behind, his response implied that they were fine. They weren't in any mental or emotional turmoil. Other than Neptune's fear of water of course. Blake's condition took priority in his mind. Which is reasonable.
      You have a friend leaving a bar, totally falling down drunk, you might want to be sure they get where the are going safely. Even if in their drunken stupor they rejected such concern. Would you let them go? Or would you want to get them an uber or something. And if they reject that, follow to insure they get where their going safely.
      But I digress, this is a fantasy show after all. And you can't consider everything depicted in it as real life examples.
      Incidentally, Sunn's concern was validated when Blake thought she could handle a Sea Feilong Grimm when it attacked the ship she was on. Trying to take it on blindly nearly got her killed (as well as the ship lost) if it wasn't for Sunn stepping in to help.
      I guess by your standards, Qrow was just as much a stalker also when he followed RNJR and kept them from being, you know, killed.
      While Sunn's and Qrow's actions could be broadly generalized using the verb 'stalking', neither one of them deserve the title noun of 'stalkers'. As they had No ill intent. We the viewers were well aware of that. And the Blake and RNJR were not depicted as seeing it that way either.
      I am sorry to hear about your troubles with Men. But not all men are the same. And some women have to lighten up about that. Else they will see issues with every single gesture from men.
      As for the show being written by a man. While true, the show is Very biased in favor of female characters. (Which is not unexpected, being a gurl power show at it's core, especially in recent volumes.)
      There is clearly a double standard. A female character can treat a male character badly, and that is considered comedy. But the reverse is the worse thing that could happen, and is treated as such.
      As for Sunn in V10. (If it ever gets made. I am doubting it.) You won't have to worry about much in the way of Sunn/Blake interactions. You will see very little of him after a very brief meet up at the beginning of the volume. There would not be enough time to see much in the way of growth for Sunn as the show won't have time to get that deep.

      @@DocMicrowave just sounds like you're justifying Sun's intrusiveness. I'm aware not ALL men are the same which is why I said SOME. As for Qrow, the guy isn't the epitome of social etiquette and graces so he's as clueless about who he offends and to be honest, the guy doesn't care. I mean he grew up with a bunch of bandits. The only difference is that he turned out to have a freaken conscience. Also he's not exactly the definition of diplomacy. Qrow operates and handles things based on his emotions. If I need to remind you about [SPOILERS] Volume 7 where he ran with his emotions which led to Clover's death. And he's a spy. Just like Raven used to be which is why they were turned into birds. Both Raven and Qrow were based on Odin's Ravens Huginn and Muninn. Their role was to spy on people or survey them which is the most common identified stalking tactic, though they did it mostly airborne. Even Raven stalked Yang. The problem is you associate stalking with something that involves physical danger. Sun was just being IGNORANT while Raven was acting from a mental and emotional level.
      So going back to his following Team RNJR that is pretty much stalking too but MINUS the romantic inclinations. He was like secret service level but Sun was kind of a hypocrite to leave his own team while motivating Blake to go back to her team.
      While Sun's main goal was to help Blake, the novel (which according to Kerry Shawcross is canon) from EC Myers, "RWBY: After the Fall" which focuses on both team CVFY and Team SSSN, have a scene where Sun admits that his intentions weren't ALL about that and that he WAS interested in Blake. This changes a lot in his intentions. While it's still innocent, the problem is he is clueless about boundaries.
      And like I said, he eventually toned it down by the end of V5/beginning of V6.
      Anyhow, I'm not sure where you get the idea that I think Sun will harm Blake. I never said that. Stalking doesn't always lead to physical harm. But Arryn Zech also mentioned at a RWBY/CRWBY panel that Blake's mindset was still burdened with her hangups and what she went through with Adam, so Sun "stalking" her didn't exactly sit well with Blake so she lashed out. Yes, she used the term "stalking"...as most women would. If you have to hide and stay incognito then it's stalking. Textbook definition or not. If a women feels violated at some point, it's stalking.
      You don't see it as stalking because you see it as something noble. Sadly most guys do. Guys just don't have a clue about women which is why we get that phrase, "Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus."
      Blake NEVER asked for company and she intended to go alone. That is what we see on the show. And she was irritated and bothered by the fact that Sun had followed her. And like I said, Sun wearing that cape/hood didn't really help his case. I would include a link to a therapist that defines stalking as:
      "Stalking is the act of repeatedly following, observing, or initiating contact with a person who has not consented to the behavior. Though some stalkers believe their intentions are innocent, their actions often intimidate victims." And Blake projected on to Sun when she felt his intrusiveness. It's why we get the "slapping scene." She clearly misunderstood his intentions, but Sun also misread Blake and this is where his "acts before he thinks" comes into play. And that was the whole point. To show and example of their lack of synergy.
      At this point, I'm not surprised by this debate. I've had wacky debates on how characters are portrayed, for decades (I'm a mother in my late 40s so none of this is new to me) both online (in forums) and offline at conventions and it's the same mentality that men have which doesn't surprise me. I'm certain SOME people see Sun as this White Knight figure coming to Blake's aid. His role was a catalyst to motivate her to do something about the White Fang as well as get back with her team. His main role on screen is done. His adventures continued in the novels and now that Team RWBY is in Vacuo, I'm sure he, and Team SSSN will be involved somehow, along with Team CVFY since they transferred to Shade Academy after the fall. They made tiny appearances in the V9 epilogue that they showed at RTX this past summer so they mentioned it would most likely be refitted for Volume 10 when that gets greenlit. My guess is they're trying to get V11 and V12 greenlit too so that's why the RWBY Twitter account has been active and promoting merchandise the past few months.
      ====
      As for V10 happening or not, Kerry and Eddy mentioned that they were still writing for volume. I've been with the show since 2013 (I was in my 30s) and had to wait patiently through several hiatuses. When Monty passed away, most of us didn't think that it would continue but it eventually did and after V3 finished airing in 2014, I waited patiently through the 2 year hiatus. When 2016 hit, then we got our V4 continuation. Then after Volume 8 came another hiatus that lasted 3 years as V9 just finished back in April of this year. A lot of it had to do with the pandemic and working out of their homes but it eventially got out. V7-V9 were greenlit altogether so they were given the budget for all 3 though V9 had cuts after Ch1-7 were completed. More info on that on Eddy Rivas and Kerry Shawcross' Twitter accounts.
      So this is not my first rodeo. I'm optimistic, it will continue at some point. At least Rooster Teeth is a subsidiary so despite their parent company Warner/Discovery, RWBY is still RT's intellectual property since they are their own entity. Warner basically acts as the physical media distributor and they won't have to worry about David Zaslav since they never received funding from WB to begin with. The Justice League crossover was commissioned by WB so that was a seperate funding source that just gave CRWBY additional work so that their animators could extend their contracts.
      Unfortunately, while working at Universal, I've been hearing rumors that Comcast wants to buy out WB/Discovery. Not sure how true it is but that's the current gossip backstage.
