    Re: Brando's T-Shirt, everyone says he's wearing a plain white shirt but he seemed to be wearing a white ringer shirt with a black collar & on the sleeves. The black and white played off his jacket & boots. Might be interesting to try.

      Yeah. He is indeed. Had a few folk comment on that point. You’re totally right. Guess I was not clear enough with the intention of the vid. I wanted to bring the look up to date in a way. I felt the ringer was a little old school.

    Fun fact! When you ride a motorcycle, its best to have a little bit extra on the length of the jeans, the cuff at the bottom happens by itself when you ride a motorcycle, the bottom will cuff up, and thats the reason behind the cuffed up jeans! All my jeans are 34 inseam!

    I personally prefer 501 fit straight leg high waist compared to tapered ones

  • @rainmanmanilajoe3716
    @rainmanmanilajoe3716 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    His 501 was definitely customized and tapered much like the lvc 1966 501 custom. If you look closely in the movie, and also in some archival stills, his outer seam selvedge at the folded hem is wide. That is why he had a slim fit.

    • @rainmanmanilajoe3716
      @rainmanmanilajoe3716 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Incidentally, I have now bought an LVC 501 1955 Customized made in Japan and released 2021. The folded selvedge at the outseam is so wide about 4 inches! Brando sported something similar but probably a 1953 or earlier 501

    • @elquimps7120
      @elquimps7120 หลายเดือนก่อน

      nope. It's a regular 501 shrink to fit. Also, he had really strong legs/body.

    • @rainmanmanilajoe3716
      @rainmanmanilajoe3716 หลายเดือนก่อน

      He changes through the scenes, some scenes have regular selvedge, in others it is very clearly the customized wide selvedge

    Marlon Brando didn't wear a Schott perfecto but a motorcycle jacket from a different leather jacket manufacturer. the jacket was unlined and the only company that still makes them is Bill Kelso. Be warned though the jacket costs 2945 US Dollars. But they have had the original pattern used in the 50s. Pretty cool.

    A lot of bikers I knew and saw back in the 1960s wore more denim than leather. The swag that Lee Marvin wore in "The Wild One" -- striped sweatshirts or striped "T" shirts, cutoffs (sleeveless Levi jackets) and engineer boots were pretty standard for bike club members during the late 1950s through the mid-1960s. Of course, that all depended on where you lived in the States back then. Check Irving Penn's b/w photos of SF Bay area Hells Angels in an issue of Look magazine (circa late 1967 or early 1968).

    I bought the exact Simmons Bilt jacket that Matt mentioned in this video. Recommended 1000% The folks at Simmons Bilt (Debs especially) are just so kinda and helpful. They're really out to satisfy the customer. And hot damn, I bought my jacket in waxy black horsehide with a burgundy cotton liner & brass hardware, and it's the PERFECT intersection between badass and refined. Spring for it, you will not regret it.

      Hey Martin, you're totally right and I should have been more clear about this point. 618 was the original model that brando would have worn, which would have at the time had no upper snaps (brando's were added which can be seen in their alignment on the collar and the absence of a snap on the body) and had stars. Later on when the stars had been removed and upper snaps added as standard, there was a call to bring back the original 50s jacket so schott brought it back as the 613, the 13 being an homage to schott's founding year. This info is super s(c)hotty and hard to find and has been pieced together from many conflicting sources. Read the schott forums and write your own story basically.

    • @JacobHarvietheSinger

    Who is this guy to tell us how to wear our clothes? I can tell you this, they put a hell of a lot less thought into back in the 50's, and that casual attitude is the very thing that made all of this cool. Long story short, ignore what wannabe "influencers" tell you, and just wear what feels right.
