It IS a shocking statement, I will explain why. All Sheffield Utd have to do is finish the season above 3 teams. That is all. It is not impossible at all with 12 games to go. It is absolutely disgraceful and this is not even the start. When he played my team, Wolves, he started saying that the players should be showcasing themselves because they could stay in the premier league even if Sheffield Utd went down. What kind of policy is that? Play well and don't bother trying not to get relegated? It is frankly bizarre. 12 games to go, 12 points from safety and it might not even be that after ffp points deductions kick in for other teams. Pull yourself together Sheffield Utd. Just because your manager has given up there is no need for you to.

Club sold their 2 best players just 2 weeks before the first game of the season, had a budget of just £20m to buy new players, and from a 25 man squad there were 14 injured players. Owner wont spend but doesn't really want to sell. SUFC have lost their identity and are stuck in no-mans land. But every home game there's still 28-30 thousand attending. The fans deserve better.

As a Southampton fan I can see if we go up we will have a season like Burnley. Yes Sheff Utd got creamed last night but if everyone had played their A game it still would have been two or three nil to Arsenal. The reality of it all is football is dominated by money and also the big clubs rigging the game in their favour with five subs and 105 minute matches. The gulf is enourmous now and the Championship is now dominated by the clubs that went down the season before, the game itself is going wrong not just Sheffield United.

Once promoted the club should have invested more than what they have to provide Hecky with the best chance to survive year 1 back in. They didn't. So straight away United were under pressure. The fault lies with the owner not investing in recruitment of the right players at the right time for bigger investment probably more than ever the club had sanctioned before. But that is exactly what was required. Ultimately Hecky paid the price for that. They then bring back Wilder who has unfortunately inherited the exact same problem the club faces. All that said it is very fair to say that Hecky and Wilder are not premier class management. So realistically speaking United are a championship club untill the club is correctly geared for premier league football.

One of the things i would say to counteract what you say is that everybody including the fans need to use playing against more superior players as a learning experience. It’s perplexing to then bring in a new manager who likely won’t receive adequate backing, especially one previously sacked by Middlesbrough.

Championship was evidently poor last year. Then throw in sale of the 2 best players, injuries. We never had a chance. And when losing every week it's on the verge of being toxic, players falling out, fans leaving. The gap to PL is huge. Look at the money Forest spent, and will they become established (if we say that is stay up for 5 seasons) probably not. Next year the likes of Leicester have a decent chance, so different every season. Can look at Luton but even if they scrape it this year what chance do they have of staying up the next 5 seasons? Football isn't what it was and tbh it's more enjoyable in the championship. You could say that is our level, or you could say it shows that money wins. I do think something needs to change to help bridge the gap. I saw someone above say only 2 relegated from PL and that would probably be better. And other changes to help bridge the financial gap.
