I bought a Maen Hudson 38 (MK4 no date) a little while back. The watch is truly awesome. The specs, proportions, and finishing are all excellent. It’s overall a great value prop and as far as microbrands go I’d put them right up there with Baltic. I really like the Chrono they have too.
i recently bought a MAEN - a collaboration with a Korean TH-camr. The quality is excellent and would love to get this GMT only if their dial colors were a bit different.
Bought the Maen Manhattan 37. Great watch. I believe in Maen. However, Hudson is at its 4th iteration. They need to do some upgrades on the clasp. On the fly adjustable clasp would be great.
What I value here isn't just the (very) cool GMT this watch is, but being exposed to a watch brand I otherwise might never have known, and rather more interesting in both its origins and offerings than many others.
Wow. Great looking. I missed what kind of gmt is it? Can the hour hand be jumped? Wonderful photography. The dive bezel action is a bit of a wart but I don’t track a 3rd zone very often (ever).
Too small for me, but a lot to like here. I don’t love the logo marking on the dial, but the indices, rehout markings, and hand set are right-on. Good case, the bezel is nice and narrow (should be bi-directional for the price, seriously). Total strap monster, for sure, I see it on a black sailcloth. Love the use of the relatively rare Soprod movement. Very cool. One more gripe- at this price the six o’clock date window (yes!) should be color-matched. Anyway, fun review and very cool piece. Thanks, as always, for sharing!
I wish the lug to Lug was closer to 50 mm so it wore a little bit bigger. Unfortunately as much as I like this watch I don't think it's going to be one I can wear I have an 8.25 inch wrist. 38mm just won't look right. Great looking watch and as always love the video.
Saw this at the Windup Watch Fair and it's great looking. It was one of the highlights of the Fair for me. Finishing is very good. The dial texture and bezel colors really work. The value for money is high up there, in my opinion. I think the bezel not being bidirectional is the only thing giving me pause from pulling the trigger... I would have also liked to see more prominent applied indices, but I do understand the GMT hand is working against the height of the indices, unless the whole case thickness were to be increased.
My thoughts exactly - the looks, size, and finish are home runs but the 120-click bezel breaks some of the functionality of the piece. I'd even pay a little more if they could re-utilize this design and upgrade to Miyota's GMT movement.
@@andikasuhardjo4653 Yeah, I'd pay more for a proper bidirectional bezel. They wouldn't use a miyota movement though because Maen watches are "Swiss Made" and a Japanese movement would forego that designation.
Is this watch built upon the exact same case, bezel, caseback and crystal as the San Martin 6200 Vintage Diver? They look exactly the same, exact same dimensions as well….
@@eternalmemri Not so far. I’ve gotten to the point that I’m not doing much impulse buying and come to realize I can admire a watch without buying it Still I’ll probably purchase at least a couple this year and I keep noticing this There is also a quartz version which I might consider
I love Maen watches, I have a Limited Edition Hudson Sanghwal and it is one of my favorite watches to wear. I just can't say enough good things about it.
I was sold right up to the bezel action. 120 click unidirectional is for divers. GMT's should always have a 24 or 48 click bidirectional bezel. Microbrands far cheaper than this do it without issue. It's just lazy sourcing for brands to reuse the same bezel from their divers on their GMT's.
I agree, having a unirotating bezel on a GMT watch just puts me off straight away, Means the brand just repurposed their dive watch case and slapped a GMT bezel and movement on instead of redesigning specifically for a GMT.
Do you have any issues with the finishing of the case and bracelet? I got the Manhattan 37 from them. There are lot of sharp edges on the case and bracelet. The bracelet clap really cuts into my wrist. I had to file it down. I also has issue with its dial. The color does not pop out as seen on the their website. They have a really good concept with the Manhattan 37. However, the execution is a big disappointment. I was on the lookout for the Hudson 38 and plan to get the VIP order discount. However, I won't order anything from them.
Hi Francis, thanks for your feedback. Honestly we are a bit surprised to hear this. In fact you are the first person that mentions the quality is below expectations. We have not heard any issues with the clasp either, if you could please send us an email regarding this issue we can see what we can do. As for the color of the dial, it really depends how the light reflects on the dial, the pictures you can see on our website and Instagram are not edited so the dial definitely pops in certain conditions as advertised.
Great size, good design, nice finishing. But for this amount of money, a bi-directional 24 or 48 click bezel and on the fly micro-adjust in the clasp are expected. Funny enough, I don't care about the Swiss movement. If this was Seiko or Miyota powered and cheaper, it'd be a very interesting option.
@Bryce Kurtz am I often neurotic about things like this? Yeah. I can be. My issue is that this watch seemed to want to get all the little details right but then cheaped out on what makes a really good GMT. To see others offer cheaper GMTs with proper bidirectional bezels just makes this disappointing...
That's very nice - but my goodness, check out the Maen Skymaster ("coming soon"). That reverse panda is *fantastic* . I think Maen have a lovely design - very nice finish on the bezel too. Initially I thought the crown stood too far from the case, but then considered the diameter. Is the price right? Probably 🙂 (and in 12 months it will look like a bargain) There are lots of GMTs on release, and so few of them have GMT bezel springs. You're right that a 48-click bidirectional bezel is hard to source at an attractive cost. But that doesn't seem right at 7500 SEK (although Steinhart have similar prices and the same flaw). Off topic - missing a bidirectional bezel is not a significant issue for most owners, but it casts shade on the notion that NH34 has allowed an outpouring of designs. If that were really the case, why didn't anyone prepare? Of course, no-one seems to make 48-click bezels and 2-way springs that fit SKX cases either, and surely there's a market now?
Unidirectional 120 click bezel on a GMT is a no-go. This is like that cheap watch tends to have a ghost date position. Except this isn't a cheap watch.
looks too small for your wrist. 40mm would be the best fit for yu as you said. my wrist size is the same as yours. i always limit my purchases to 40-42mm. they fit most appropriately
I'll be honest...I'd buy this watch immediately BUT I hate the branding. The brand name is just ugly. Wish they'd come up with a logo and just use that
I have to comment that 38mm is not small. James Bond etc would agree. You might say it is small compared to many watches in the last 20 years but many Gentleman adventureres wore way smaller than 38.
Too bad the name "MAEN" logo is so plain/boring. They should hire a graphic designer to add some class/originality to the logo, instead of that boring text!
Nice watch but people should understand this is not based on the eta 29 gmt movement but its like a modified 2836 (day date 2824) but the day has been modied to work as a GMT just like the 2836GMT hangzhou 6460 and nh34.
My "perfect watch" is a completely blank face. Nothing. No stone, no logos, no maker name. I gave up ages ago trying to find it. I have no reason for this post other than to just share that insignificant factoid.

That's the nicest looking true GMT I've ever seen! I love the simplicity and versatility of the style. I hope can afford one on sale or used someday.
Digging the whole channel man, I commend the hard work, and while having a kid, thank you for making these videos!
Looks great Dave. I really love the Jack Mason GMT that just released with the new GMT Miyota.

Thought I was so over diveresque watches, but that is a stunner! Nice find.
Nice watch I hope they do well with it. Excellent review as always, thanks!
Hi, from where do i buy a casio JDM watch in japan for the best price? any specific location/website in japan?
I believe the pre-order price is about $770 (although you can get a code to knock off about $60). Retail will be around $850.
Glad your channel is growing. Good job.
Wow. Great looking. I missed what kind of gmt is it? Can the hour hand be jumped? Wonderful photography. The dive bezel action is a bit of a wart but I don’t track a 3rd zone very often (ever).
It's a caller GMT, so the GMT hand jumps by the hour when setting, but the hour hand does not.

I really like this one, but having no bi-directional bezel at $700+ is a deal breaker for me. Their Hudson diver is tempting...

Great Channel. Also a lume fan.
The pre-order price is now 900eur and retail of 1000eur when I check their site?

San Martin has a very similar 38mm case and bezel.

G'morning ☕☕ . Great video my friend & a very nice watch 😇😇
I really like the colors I’m usually not a gmt guy but I really like this
Traveler GMT or Caller GMT? Essentially info for a review of a GMT watch. Thanks for introducing this brand I had never considered before.
Caller. Kind of kicking myself for forgetting to mention that.
Nice looking watch. I think it would look great on a suede strap....maybe dark honey colour.
I keep watching the reviews and being drawn to this. Can’t decide between the root beer or the steel bezel. But it may be my next watch
Did you end up buying it? I’m considering it myself

we all still long for a watch with a name that everyone can agree on how its pronounced

I thought the finishing was excellent on this one, didn't notice any sharp edges, everything was very comfortable.
Is this a "real" GMT movement, or a "caller" movement like the Seiko NH34?
Great review and a good looking watch!
Cool watch. I just find the name of the brand a bit awkward. Does anyone know what it stands for??
Old Dutch - means “moon”.
Im new here, have there been many x-files references? Great reviews though great channel.
Ha ha, yeah, there have...
Competitive with Zelos by most measures -- with the added advantage that you can actually buy one.
Nice office gmt, although gmts should have bidirectional bezel.

Looks cool, but preordering price is $1.100 now. Got a lot more expensive than the price as was mentioned in the video
Pitty that bezel insert is aluminum.
Ordered mine more than 7 month ago and not even an update about my order. Very disappointed.
I ordered one without preorder last week and it arrived in 4 days.
I love your channel and reviews but the strat-o-timer from Jack Mason got my money as soon as it opened for preorder.
Good looking….too expensive though. Steinhart has better GMT 300M options for a lot less. And their movements are well known.
I do like this watch, but 38 mm is likely just too small for me.

Maen has the long reputation of worse lume on hands than on marks, from v1 to v4.
I have to comment that 38mm is not small. James Bond etc would agree. You might say it is small compared to many watches in the last 20 years but many Gentleman adventureres wore way smaller than 38.
Whatever happened to the world of logo design?......So many bland and uninspiring logos everywhere. (I'm looking at you Christopher Ward for one).

I don't know how guys wear watches so small. 40mm is the absolute minimum for me
i Have a 7 3/8” wrist and 38mm is my sweet spot. I guess I don’t understand the popularity of cartoonishly large garish watches.
It depends on the size of your wrist. I’m 7 1/4 and I prefer 38-40 and bigger than 42 looks ridiculous unless you are a rapper
I see a lot of comments 6.5 6.75 inch wrist saying 38 40mm too small for their wrist either
@@jeffreygoss8109 Thats for ladies
Skimping on the unidirectional bezel is a dealbreaker. And at this price point, it’s a rather idiotic marketing blunder by Maen.
