- Since I became obsessed with coloring my faces with alcohol markers and I fell in love with Copics I've been on the hunt for the best skin tone Copic alternative. I originally purchased my set on Amazon but as of the publishing of this video I do not see them available there.
BUT if you copy and paste this into Google you WILL be able to find sellers for them:

Ohuhu DOES sell refills now. My son buys it.
Yes! Just learned that and at the time of my recording that wasn’t the case! It was up and coming FOREVER and so I gave up waiting 😂
Yep they’ve been doing refills for over 6 months know.
@jessbutterfly9801 they started in June apparently 🤷♀️
@jessbutterfly9801 Altho they are pricey! As much as Copics refills! I was surprised by that…
Yeah only 51 refill colors (STILL), not to mention hardly any were more pastel which are notarious for running out of ink sooner. I appreciate that Ohuhu is actually selling refills, though I still can't wrap my brain around the amount of markers they have in total, vs only 51 to start, with hardly any updates on when more refills will be released. They have money. They can do it. The frustration grows....
Karen you are the Queen of skintones! The shading technique is so beautiful. The markers really look nice. 😊
Thank you so much 😀
Love these skin tones Karen🥰

@@KarenCampbellArtist oh thanks!! Will do this!!
thank you Karen! i too am always on a "quest" for skin tones that don't scare the "dejesus" out of me (hahaha) I have the ohuhu also and i find them frustrating (changing numbers/colors) keeping up...i did buy the Bianyo skin tones 12 set and really like them....unfortunately 12 is the largest set, and only nib/broad tips at this time. Not a deal breaker for me, but i will definitely be checking these out...(off for another quest!)
Art is truly a series of different quests! Thank you for watching!
Always up for a review demo, I want to collect the whole britz 😂
HAHA! Thank you Wendy! So glad you enjoy these reviews!
Now, thats curious. I also have the Chotune markers, but they look totally different here. They have those typical square black barrels. I would have prefered your round barrel version, tbh. 😂They are still pretty decent for the cheap price, tho.
How interesting! I wonder why they are so different! The price is hard to beat!
Just checked on Amazon UK.
The skin tone sets are available in packs of 36 or 60…..very reasonably priced.
The colours in each set are completely different to each other……so for example, in the set of 60, it’s not just a case of including the 36 with extra colours to make up the 60…..they are COMPLETELY different colours and codes altogether with lots of shades of green with lilac/lavender and purples.
Not sure what I make of them ( colour-wise in the 60 set), although I definitely agree they did look to have great nibs !!!
It is a bit strange…..although I guess the unusual colours could be used for things other than skin tones……but it makes it harder to know which set to choose if one was buying them. 😂
They are certainly very reasonably priced for sure. 🤗💕
THANK YOU!!! This is great to know!
I may be wrong and it's another set, but I heard that the Chotune markers have yellow bleed-off. Aka markers with yellow pigment in them (including browns and greens) can stain pages above and below the artwork in a sketchbook with yellow pigment over time. Might be worth testing and being careful till it's certain these don't do that!
Also the Chotune name is one of many 'off-brand' one-off company names chinese markers get. The trick is to search for the skintone alcohol marker sets and look at the pictures for a barrel similar to the ones you have to get the 'closest best match'. Unfortunately, the actual 'brand' of these is unimportant since they come and go, probably stay on the market till the ratings get too low, then they switch brand names and introduce them as a brand new product. It happens with the 'Touch' brand too. Plenty of similarly square alcohol markers out there with the same casing and color system but different 'brand' names.
I believe it’s Ohuhus that have that issue! But to be honest it’s not the end of the world. No alcohol marker is archival or lightfast anyways so photograph or scan immediately after rendering and you’ll be in good shape! Your print can live on forever- no nasty side effects lol
I recently purchased this chotune set and your skin tone book. Would it be possible to do a colour match to the Ohuhu markers in the book please so I could follow along 😊
All you have to do is swatch your chotunes and then you can match them right to the colors already in the book!
Thank you. I'm awful at colour matching. Complete newbie here 🤦
@haleycook3397 you just eyeball it - don’t over think it. Also, truth be told, you can interchange most of them anyways - that’s why there are so many combinations. Just think in terms of Light - Medium - Dark. That’s way more important (and much easier to decipher) than the exact color family. You got this 🙌
ohuhu has refills!!!!!!
Yes! Just learned that and at the time of my recording that wasn’t the case! It was up and coming FOREVER and so I gave up waiting
On what paper did you swatch your markers?
Cardstock for swatching and Bristol for final renderings
*have a functional number of copic markers (being that they are open stock (mostly) for the distressing and layering techniques that i use on paper... mostly subtle enhancements that most would not even catch unless actively looking for...i do like how these markers feel while in use...very natural...not as if you have to constantly have to think about the marker while using it as that would be distracting*
*also what about empty markers for using your fountain pen inks for washes or especially some of the more exciting inks that offer shimmer and sheen/refracting qualities to their formulations?...or would that be more of a rabbit hole/tangent to go down? given the number of fountain pen inks you currently own and the potential combinations that would result in...*
Hmm...I don't think you can mix fountain pen ink with alcohol ink - they don't "talk" to one another or work in the same way. And since the alcohol is how the pigments are suspended in alcohol inks (and don't rely on gravity like fountain pens do to work) I kinda think things would not go well inside that barrel!! lol - Maybe a TRULY empty marker you could?? Never know until you try!
*it would be interesting to see something on how fountain pen inks are formulated to such exacting and precise standards ...using them for area washes seems to be the more practical or sensible means of using or incorporating them into any project or work...if layering were the intent i'd put down the primary layer than add a workable fixitive layer on top of that one to prevent additional pigments from turning into and artistic shade of mud*@@KarenCampbellArtist
@scottmantooth8785 I’ve done loads of projects with them (they don’t appear on TH-cam, I use them quite a bit in one of my art clubs). They’re not ever manufactured for artists to paint with 😂 so how we do it is entirely up to us! I don’t mix them, they are way to highly reactive and I tend to shy away from fixatives. I use them independently of each other most of the time for both backgrounds and well, all parts of a painting! Lol
Btw I have your Zip drive. I need to find a computer to use them with! My husband is head of AI at his company and won’t let me insert anything into one of our home computers 😂 he thinks everyone is out to get us with malware!! So I will head to the library hopefully this weekend and check them out. Thx so much! My boys enjoyed the Lego guys!!!!!
*glad to hear the flash drive got there safe and sound...and i do fully understand the security measures insists on about potential malware, there shouldn't be but my system is kinda old so better safe than not...i'm sure there are plenty you'll appreciate and get some ideas from...one of my favorites would be the Japanese style image of the woman in profile wearing a blue hat...you'll know it when you see it...also have a good number of renaissance inspired grotesques...those are pretty strange admittedly....if you like the first collection i have plenty more if interested... just let me know...*@@KarenCampbellArtist
@scottmantooth8785 thanks for understanding ❤️❤️❤️ can you send me that Japanese women in profile via email?? Now I can’t wait to see! 🙏🙌
Having a super hard time finding chotune markers online
It seems that they sold out on amazon! I would keep an eye on it though!
Ordered right now, set of 120pcs for 20usd
Here, in the Netherlands Amazone, they are still in stock. I don’t order them, because I do like the stiffness from the Ohuhu brushes, just as the brush markers from Decotime…I’m using those markers for overall coloring, because they are very, very cheap (12 for €3,49 = $3,78) and I’m a very beginner here ……. :-)
I want to buy these but don’t know where they sell them
I would copy and paste this into google! And you can check Amazon! CHOTUNE-Artist Markers-Skin Color Brush Tip Alcohol Markers-Professional Blending Illustration Art Markers Skin Tone Markers
Not sure if because the copic is well worn that the brush nib is super flexible, kind of wish you compared a less worn one.
Totally understandable!
I've been looking online and I can't find them anywhere except eBay. I don't really like to buy stuff on eBay what do you think?
What markers are hard find?
I love her. She has attitude
Totally understandable! I bought mine on Amazon. I am sure they will restock sometime soon if you want to keep an eye on it!
They are back on Amazon now x
Links? Product? Your book? Where can one find these?
Hi! I mentioned in the caption that I don't have a great link to share from Amazon, but you are able to google the set and find multiple sellers! :)
I do sell my art books on amazon! Here is a link to my Skin Tone Secrets book! Thanks for asking!

@@KarenCampbellArtist Thank you!
they're way cheaper in Japan
I just booked hotels for my sons trip there. So cheap! Compared to us prices, most things are way cheaper in Japan 🤷♀️
