Extremely useful for me, thanks. My feet are narrow with arches are so high I can stand with my feet flat and slide my hand under them. Sounds like corrective inserts are my thing!

If you've never worn arch support before it often feels weird or for some people slightly uncomfortable initially. Though often people with high arches like you who are having pain find relief relatively quickly once they get some support under there.

Running related question for the community. Has anyone else tested out Nike Alfaflys ironically with no intent of buying them, and now you feel like your life is incomplete without them? Please tell me it’s not just me.

There's way too much technology causing more issues. I found I got injuries because shoes are advertised as neutral actually accomodate pronation (Under Armour brand), this was exxagerated in the Adizeros and I broke my ankle. I'll keep watching your channel for ideas.

I appreciate it. As a heads up I'm currently on filming hiatus (TBD if/when I'l return). But happy to chat - feel free to leave a comment or shoot me an email funkj@solpri.com

the problem with inserts is that they negate the soft foam of the sole and thus feel hard

True, but if you are having issues related to a lack of support which an insert could solve - is it more important to resolve your problem or for your shoe to feel soft? And not all inserts are stiff like custom made orthotics. I'm currently using an OTC set which is semi soft and has greatly sped my recovery rate from achilles tendinosis. Do they feel as plush as my shoes normally do? No. But I'll take being able to run over continuing to limp around any day.

Can I ask, I have a very high arch (the arch doesn't evne show up on a scan i did at a shoe store) but I'm pretty sure I'm also over pronating... My shoes even get worn out on the inside of the shoe... What should I think of? Thanks!

Two somewhat different items to address. It depends on the severity of how much the inside of your shoe is wearing down compared to the outside. If it's a lot, then you might look for a Shor with medial posting (stability shoes for overpronating). They have stiffer materials to help the inside not wear down as fast. Separately is your high arch situation where if you aren't getting any kind of pain, you might be fine without any intervention. But looking at a higher posted arch support to go with your shoe would be an option. The trick being pairing the two together and seeing how you run with the combination to determine if you need stability or neutral shoes with the arch support, or no arch support at all.

@@Solpri My arch never hurts, I've never had any problems really... I just know my ankle/foot is overpronating and I'm not sure if that's what makes the back of my knees hurt on longer distances :(

@peachwow2017 potentially. Overpronation can also mean your knees are going to turn inward too much and cause stress as well which could result in the knee pain. Not a 100% guarantee, but I'd probably approach your situation using a neutral shoe with an arch support and see how things go. The arch support should hopefully correct some of the alignment issues the overpronation might be causing to prevent the knee pain. A sports physical therapist would be your best bet if a simple arch support and shoe swap don't fix your situation. They'll be able to look at your biomechanics to diagnose what needs to be strengthened and how to keep you healthy long term.

@@Solpri thanks a lot for your time buddy, I’ll be looking into a neutral shoe, but aren’t there shoes with built-in arch support? Like Those stability shoes for regular over pronation? My arch never hurt, only the back of my knees unfortunately
Sorry for my english, i’m from sweden

@peachwow2017 At least in the US, the vast majority of running shoes do not and never have had any arch support. The "support" is in the foam of the shoe, it doesn't actually support your arch. An arch support feels like pressure pushing up under your foot. If you've never worn any, once you have you will immediately understand the difference.
