    So this video was originally going to be a "Premiere" but after all the backlash I just published it. Won't be doing that again! Anyway, drama out the way...enjoy the video!

      I've heard whispers of "Premiere" I have recollections of seeing it on a couple of thumbnails. No idea what it is or was or will be. I like the video though.

    I have had difficulties with projects that weren't nearly as complex and technical as this one was, so the wait for this video was well worth effort.

    Thanks Robin for your frank commentary at the end, it was very helpful. Thumbs up.
    I'm near the same place, in woodworking, as you were when you made this and half way through a 'squatters chair" build (that's taking me way longer and way harder than I thought it would). Hearing of your doubts... and solutions... one doesn't feel alone.

    Fantastic outcome on a challenging build. For woodwork learning, I enjoyed the exposition at the end but honestly, as usual, if you were to sell it no one would notice the small flaws I am sure. Top stuff.

    It's interesting to see the different species of wood that you have down under, they sound exotic. While in the US we have the traditional Walnut, Oak, Cherry, Pine, etc... Stool looks great - kind of like a Japanese influenced Shaker style.

    Good analysis of your work . . . the more you work with wood, the better you'll get and you will be amazed at your progress, understanding and accuracy. Cheers . . .

    Hi, thanks for video. I am only starting woodworking and now read a book about woodworking basics. Based on the book, because of season temperature changes, such stool top connection will destroy the whole structure or I misunderstood something?

      @@RobinLewisMakes I recently discovered a joint (well...new to me that is...lol). Most people have seen or heard of dovetail and finger joints. In the late 1800's a man called Charles B. Knapp patented a new style called the Knapp joint. Also referred to as "pin/cove, scallop/dowel, scallop/peg, pin/scallop or half moon". Rich people wanted a more elite style of furniture so he came up with a special machine.
      It's a gorgeous design that I want to try!

    I love the chair! Also, do you have any suggestions for working with soft pine? it's so soft and pliable that it just looks like smooshed bread even with the sharpest chisel.

    • @RobinLewisMakes
      @RobinLewisMakes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pine (or anything that soft) is surprisingly hard to work with. All your blades need to be razor sharp!

    • @AlphaNerd132
      @AlphaNerd132 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RobinLewisMakes That's what I was thinking. And considering I can already shave with my chisels, I think ill stick to the more expensive hard woods. Our cheep wood here (Missouri) is soft pine. Any hard wood is going to cost you a decent amount.

    • @RobinLewisMakes
      @RobinLewisMakes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks mate. Yeah it's tough; when she's awake you want to be with her but when she's asleep (and you have free time) noise is an issue. Been pretty lucky though, she sleeps through most of it

    • @MiniLuv-1984
      @MiniLuv-1984 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Difference between halfap and dovetail for the uninitiated please?

    • @RobinLewisMakes
      @RobinLewisMakes  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dovetails use interlocking wedges so the join can't pull apart once it's glued (it pulls into the wedge), a half lap join is a square/rectangle overlap of wood.

    This premier thing people are doing on TH-cam is a load of shit.
    This is not a movie it's a 10min or so video what is the waiting to see it for.
    Post the video or don't post it. This premier is not going to invite more people to watch u just going to aggravate your viewers.
