I am a korean who can speak english a little and I'm learning how to think in english from watching your video. It's so helpful for my ability of speaking english to do this. Thank u! what a useful vid
Great tips. I often need to remind myself to slow down. With endless books to get to, I find myself rushing to get to the next, then I don't remember what I've read.
I have scheduled time to read daily - one hour when I first rise while sipping coffee and waking up, then 30 minutes to an hour before bed. It is part of my daily routine nd don't feel the same if I don't get to read.
I have incorporated going for a walk after my morning read time to think about what I've read.
I love this video :) The other day I thought about a quote from "The secret history", Donna Tartt acutally talked about it in an interview. She says: She rather knows one book very very good and reads it again and again than knowing 100 books just a little bit. And I totally get that. I love rereading books I loved. But I also love reading new books. In the end it's the balance that is important.
Spot on! I like to set myself a Goodreads goal, but I don’t think I’ve ever actually met it. The reading itself is where it’s at. Goals can be inspiring, but also a trap. (Incidentally, this is also why I never promise to knit anyone anything - nothing will kill my inspiration as effectively as a deadline on something that I do for fun and personal fulfillment!)
This is so true, and you put this experience into words perfectly! I definitely feel the same way :)
OMG! I have ADHD as well and your words resonated so much with the way I read.
I recently deleted my goodreads and storygraph goals because I was definitely speeding up my reading to meet them instead of wallowing in my books. I struggle with adhd too and the distraction is a big problem so I’m determined to slow my reading right down and enjoy my time between the pages.
This video put a big smile on my face. Thank you for this kindness ❤
As someone who's been trying to get into writing novels, I'm really sad to see some readers try to plough through books as quickly as possible. Like, the author spent so much effort into the writing to make it so gorgeous and convey so much and they're just going to ignore all that beauty for the sake of an arbitrary number on Goodreads? 😭 Whenever I read books and recommend them to people I always tell them that there's a lot of subtext that they might miss if they read too quickly, in hope it'll slow them down somewhat.
For particularly poignant, well written books like Call me by your name, I'd read and re read every paragraph at least twice because every time I re read I discover something new. And the writing feels so good, too.
I absolutely agree! Speeding through books makes readers completely miss the intricacy and details of a text! I love this perspective.
I really needed this!
you should totally do a podcast, your voice is so soothing and your advice is really helpful!
I loved your take on this topic (I'm in love with your hairstyle and the cute sweater). I find myself getting so much into a book that I just can't finish it at a certain point! My brain resists to pick it up again even though I absolutely love the story, it's a whole cycle 😩 It keeps me from reading more books because the tension of finding out what will happen next is unbearable haha. But I really love stories and storytelling and I guess it's just a type of reader I am, I have to find some grace in it and not beat myself for it!
You are terrific Thanks for sharing these steps.
You are so welcome! Thank you for being here!
Great tips and thanks for sharing ! This is such a calming video 😊
Thank you so much!
Thank you for this video 🙏
omg a new video 💞💞💞
Thanks for being here 🥰
this was so helpful, exactly what i needed right now, thank you!!
Ahh I’m so glad to hear this!!
And yes! Books aren't simply to consume they're for savouring!
I'm on a terrible reading slump right now, i read a chapter twice in a day to end slump 😅
i really need this rn
💕💕
loved it ❤
Thank you!
I am able to read incredibly fast but with literature I am incredibly slow. I have been reading my whole life so this is my preferred way to enjoy books instead of just doing a tick box exercise. Also I really love all forms of literature so I never tire of stories in general e.g. if I tire my eyes I can listen to someone speak or I can read manga when I want pictures too :) not being snobbish abt audio books and graphic novels really helps 😂 (side eyeing booktok rn)
I totally agree with you! Audio books are so essential for me and I’ve really been wanting to get into graphic novels more :)
Luv yr narration and content. ❤❤❤
Thank you so much!
Nice! Thanks Isabella ;)
Thank you!!
just in time... thank you for your advice, bella! always being a mindful reader is such a goal
i'm also curious, have you ever read fried green tomatoes at the whistle stop cafe by fannie flag? if so, what do you think about it? if not, i think this novel would be very suitable for a book club pick someday!!
You’re welcome, I hope it was helpful! And yes I definitely have! I grew up on the movie and I’ve always wanted to read the book. I will absolutely consider this for a book club pick in the future! 😉
