So glad that you ignored the unnecessary comments and made the decision that You saw fit for Your children! Mom's were (and still are) the original teachers. You got this!
I feel the lunch room thing my son misses the playground gossip he says, so his school going cousin comes over now and dishes. I don't get it but it makes him happy. If my son was still in public school he would be entering 6th grade this year. He is disabled and currently tests at a fourth grade level so that is what I am teaching him and I am so so proud of him getting there because when he left school last year when he would have been entering 5th grade he was testing at 1st/2nd grade so very proud of his hard work. Your doing great and I appreciate the video!
Yes family is such an important part of our community. They see their cousins all the time. That's awesome! You BOTH should be proud of his progress! 🙌🏾
I finally shared an update and a 6th grade planning video. My son enjoys this curriculum. It has sparked a lot conversation and research into topics we may not have explored on our own. He asked to stay with OM and will be starting the 7th grade level in September.
I did like it! It was a great fit for us last year. I thought we'd use it again, but after setting our goals for this coming school year, we needed something different to support us.
Is Oak Meadow more independent for the student? Im a full time working mom and my son is heading into 7th grade. Im looking for aomething thats open and go for him.
It is written to the student, so it does allow them to be more independent in that way. I work with my son to choose the assignments he will do throughout the week, as there are many "choice assignments." Then I have been breaking his work up over the week and adding it to our digital planner. For the most part, he can do his work on his own, but I try to check it every day to make sure he is on track and understands. We also edit his papers together. There is a lot of writing in OM6. It's not something that you can just hand to the child. They do have enrollment options where you can submit students' work to a teacher, and they may be helpful in supporting your homeschool. I am thinking we will try it if you continue using Oak Meadow through the 8th grade and on. How involved you will need to be will depend on his workflow and focus. I hope that helps answer your question
@@TheSimpleHappyLife okay that makes sense. I spend evenings after work and weekends with him making sure he understands what he is doing now. Of course his father is here too but he works from home and is more of a supervisor than a teacher if that makes sense. I may have to look into it more.
Well, we are still using OM for both kids. They are enjoying the curriculum and I enjoy the structure and flexibility of the assignments. We're working at our own pace and adding in other books and field trip experiences. It's been nice.
I would say secular. My oldest is studying ancient history, so he is learning about different religions, but I haven't seen any Scriptures or anything like that. We believe in God and have daily devotionals, but I tend to lean toward a secular or at least neutral curriculum.
6th grade! Middle school, here we come!!! 🙌🏾

Yes! Me too. Thank you! I agree! 🙌🏾

Thanks for your video!!! Could you make a video comparing Oak Meadow, Bookshark and MBTP?
That's a good one. Let me get a little further into Oak Meadow, and I can share my thoughts.
Saving this because Ill have a middle schooler next year
I have chosen Oak Meadows for my 6th grader for next year as well. Would love to hear how you and your son have been liking it! It’s a new one for us.

Very interesting picks never looked into oak meadow
I did when we first started, but it seemed overwhelming, but I'm glad I circled back around. We have been enjoying it so far.
We’re using Oak Meadow grade 6 this year too! We’re on week 3 and are enjoying it so far.
That's awesome! We're just getting going and finishing up week 1!

@@Spurz166 Best of luck! 😊
I’m curious to know how it’s been going ….
