      Technical talent is overshadowed by the fact a camera can do the same job. So the expensive art is catering to an audience that wants something with information that is not just transferred visually. I am not supportive or condoning the modern art industry I am just trying to highlight the fact that realistic art is not a deal breaker for art to be valuable monetarily at all, but it has to be marketed in a specific way to be valuable lately. Plz don’t say that the artist is god given talented, it’s actually a little offensive when you say this to an artist. Try complimenting like ‘your work is amazing’ or ‘you’re skills are remarkable’ or ‘I can your hard work in this’ or something like that. I know it’s a bit confusing but artists like to be complimented on their hard work, when you say an artist is born talented it indirectly means that the artist makes his art effortlessly, which is far from the truth.

    When photography came along, many painters gave up on the ever-more-difficult quest for realism. Now only very few artists have the talent to continue that quest successfully. Michael James Smith's work inspires awe.

    • @johntonssen7231
      @johntonssen7231 2 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      As an artist, photo realism had its place, but it’s not valued now. Because it’s easy to paint something that’s real. I’m not trying to discredit this man whatsoever, he’s very talented, but painting like this is actually easy, just very time consuming.
      I say it’s easy as an artist, no doubt if you can’t paint, it’s difficult, but if you were a competent painter, you can do this, just takes a lot of time and patience.
      I used to paint and draw hyper realistic things, but that was when I was a teen. Can’t be fed now lol, I’m in love with impressionist works, also helps that you can finish a painting in one sitting hahah

    • @badseednut
      @badseednut 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@johntonssen7231 It's pretty much like any other form of art. When an artist is at the top level of performing, be it painting, music, dancing, even the nowadays mangled photography, they are able to achieve high results in their work. And again, like you said, nothing discredits the incredible talent, HARD work and the difficulty of doing something like this. At the same time not everyone can do the same thing as others. If you don't have the patience to do something like that then you luck one necessary skill. You might have the patience to do something else, even more difficult, but not this particular form/genre/style etc. However, what matters to the artist I believe is what feeds their soul and the what helps them communicate with the audience better. Still though, that's mad skills here.

    God-given talent in these artists to visualize in their own minds eyes and then make the untalented viewer imagine 3D perspective on a 2D rendering.
    I still can't believe some artists can paint shades of colors and make us believe we are viewing a velvet dress or light from a candle on a face on eye in a portrait - pure genius.
    It doesn't have to be the old 'realist' masters such as Da Vinci or Rembrandt, but even the Impressionists such as Monet, Manet, Degas that create such masterpieces for us to wonder at...sheer joy.
