    This was very helpful. The pump died on my Silvia and I used your instructions to successfully change it. It might be helpful to others that when buying a new pump, it doesn't need to be the EP5 and can be an EX5 ("P" = plastic; "X" = brass).

    Thank you so much for posting this video. Excellent walk-through. My Silvia is now back to working condition. Wouldn't have thought to blow through the pump, so thanks for that little tip as well.

    I have 2 months old Silvia V6 and was not able to pull a decent sweet shot no matter what I did in prep, tamp, grind. I always had a puddle of water below drip tray after using machine. Thought this was over splash from pressure release valve and event put Silvia on stand and put on a silicone tubing directed through existing hole in frame and to the drain can and put smaller drip tray to just catch the water from group head (this is one of the nicest improvements I have done on its own!) L. Still a puddle! Then figured out that 90 degree elbow connector from pump to braided hose was leaking on the thread. Applied 10 cm of teflon tape on the connector and no leaks so far. Shots coming out perfect! Conclusion - pressure instability immensely affects your brew quality.

    Thanks so much for this video. Since my aptitude for such things is almost zilch, I watched and re-watched the video several times and managed to successfully install the new pump (with the brass fitting that you demonstrated).

    Very helpful! I should have also checked the intake hose for the pump. It was clogged at the pump with a piece of a coffee bean or something! I followed your excellent instructions and replaced the pump anyway. Thanks!

    I'm so glad I found your video. I was about to ship my Silvia to a repair facility. It took me less than 5 minutes to remove the pump. Replacement pumps are readily available so one's on order and on its way to my residence. 👍

    I was able to repair my machine using your video, which is a good thing, since I've no idea how much it would have cost me to get it repaired from where I live. I'm guessing, with shipping, your video saved me a few hundred dollars. So, thank you!

    Excellent video, thank you so much! Didn't have a compressor, but managed to blow out the pump with a bicycle pump, wouldn't work without that step.

    Thanks for the video! There is no water coming true my machine anymore. It use to be that sometimes it did and sometimes it didn’t. But now, nothing. So I thought it must be the pump. I think I will buy a bump and try to change it my self.

    Thanks for a great video...question. Do the pumps get tired? or is failure a binary thing? I feel like my pump is not generating consistent pressure and wonder if the impeller is starting to give way. It seems like an easy enough update to keep the machine fresh. LMK and I'll order one from you.

    I have an EP5 replacement pump. is Loctite 290 is the right sealant to use on the EP5?

  • @ketle369

    My pump didn’t die but was noisy and pumped a little bit to little water. Replaced it with the brass new one. Now it’s quiet and pumps more water. I’ll try to adjust the grind and pressure to get more creama next.

    Hi. My Silvia (10 years old) is struggling to pour a shot I’ve descaled several times but am thinking the pump could be worn out. Does that sound like the problem?

  • @photomediavideo

    could you use teflon tape instead of loctite? i'm not sure about loctite being in contact with water that I will be consuming?

    Good vid - I replaced the same pump on my Quickmill Anita. Wish I'd seen this before I did - I would have blown out the pump. I think it has an air-lock so I'm going to take it back apart and do that. But why not use teflon plumbing tape instead of lock-tite?

    • @kanencoffee
      @kanencoffee  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Teflon is fine, lock-tire is faster and more predictable.

    Hi, is it possible that I've damaged my pump when no water was in the machine for a few seconds? It made a weird nose and now the pump seems to work but very slow. Takes for ever to make a cup of coffee. Barely no water flows out. I've cleaned the machine after that with white vinegar in the tank and running it in the system to get the tart out but no progress.Thx!

    Thanks for this. I burned out the pump on accident. Unattended timer and the water button being on (Google it, surprisingly happens more than you might think.) I do wish Rancilio would put a max timer switch on the pump or at heat switch. The boiler at least has one.

    My pump now takes 10-20 seconds to start after I press the button. I get a very quiet sound at first and the after the 20s has passed it pumps as normal. Is the pump needing to be replaced?

    I own a Rancilio Silva, when making coffee the pump stops making its regular noise for a second or two. How can I tell if is a bad pump or the solenoide?

    • @mrc0ff33
      @mrc0ff33 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If water doesn't come out of both the group head or steam wand, it's a bad pump.

    I'm trying to diagnose a problem with a Silvia machine. The pump seems to work fine, lots of pressure, internals looks fine. Once machine gets hot the pump sounds weak, doesn't pump. I have checked the connections. Could it be a bad pump?

  • @bwap11
    @bwap11 ปีที่แล้ว

    It would have been helpful if you demonstrated the intake tube vs the pressure-release tube so we can know visually which one connects to which fitting

    • @ketle369
      @ketle369 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Lock tite. Use the blue one. Other colors may weld the screw so it’s impossible to remove the screw later. The blue one is more like sticky note concept. Sorry my bad English. The bottle is red and the lock tite inside is blue color. You need half a drop on one screw.

    Order the pump on our website: www.kanencoffee.com/store/p/ulka-ex5-vibratory-pump The EX5 and EP5 are interchangeable. I like the EX5 better because the output fitting is made of brass instead of plastic.
