  • In this 90K mile / 72 month regularly scheduled maintenance type repair video we will go over the Toyota factory shop manual procedure for the timing belt replacement on the 5S-FE 2.2L engine. Along the way we will show how to inspect other parts involved in the procedure for possible replacement. Including the engine moving control rod, power steering belt, generator belt, tensioner pulley and spring, idler pulley, and timing covers and gasket seals.
The car illustrated is a 2000 Toyota Camry CE, but this repair procedure and genuine Toyota part numbers used will apply to all years 1997 thru 2001 with this same 2.2L engine.

This is a fantastic walkthrough! Thanks for putting it together. I've never done a timing belt before, but looking to do it on a 4S-FE and it should be pretty similar to what you've shown in this video. Much appreciated!!!

56:12 the manual shows the spring free length measurement between the inner sides of those bends, you measured the outer sides which probably added those 3.15mm. Even if the free length is OK, changing the spring is cheap insurance. Great work, thanks for the video. (I dread doing this job again!)
