    I came across your very interesting and thorough video, you obviously seem to know your way easily around the Viessmann controls, I wonder if you or anyone here can help, I have 200-W Vitoden with the 7" digital screen, Do you have any idea as to how this boilers flow temperature can be reduced to around 60/65 degree, it is not weather sensor controlled, it's only control is by use of a Salus It500 thermostat to control temperatures required for the rooms. As I, for the life of me can't fathom how to reduce it, so surely there must be some form of control for that within the boiler on it’s digital screen settings somewhere, to be able to adjust the flow rate? so would be grateful for any directions.. Keep up the good work

      I have to answer your question with a question. Why have the very best boiler on the market that is perfectly optimised for weather compensation control (superb minimum firing rate of 1.9KW) and that is all built in and then not use it? You paid a premium price for this boiler and you have essentially handicapped it.

  • @peterhicks603
    @peterhicks603 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very interesting. Does this boiler require a 22mm gas supply? Our house was built 20 years ago and has an indirect type heating system with cistern tanks in the attic. A 15mm gas pipe goes from the meter (beside the front door) underneath the house to the boiler in the utility room at the back of the house. Some neighbours have changed to combi boilers by having a 22mm pipe fitted externally going around the house but it looks awful and we don't want to do that. Does the 15mm pipe mean we'll only ever be able to have a regular boiler and will have to have a direct unvented system if the current hot water/heating system fails? Thanks in advance. P.S. What area of there UK do you cover? Thanks again!

    • @thornhillplumbing
      @thornhillplumbing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on the KW of the boiler and how far the boiler is away from the gas meter. A combi usually requires 22mm or 28mm pipework to comply with the gas regulations. You would only be able to have 15mm pipework if the boiler was right next to the gas meter. I would look at your neighbours houses as a guide.

    I had the Viessmann Vitodon 100-W 32Kwh brand new (latest model). From day 1, it has been throwing errors and bamboozling gas engineers. I had it installed in Oct 2022 in preparation for the cold weather conditions in winter. I was only getting consistent hot water, but very little CH. It got to the point that I bought electric heaters to heat up my home. A Viessmann engineer refused to inspect the combi boiler since it is connected to my thermal storage. He said our combi boilers should not be connected to a buffer tank, and installation should be rectified as per the manufacturer's instructions. In June 2023, I brought another company to remove the buffer tank and disconnect it and put it right as advised by Viessmann. The boiler has started kettling, but settled down, but it is still not woking for CH, and when that same Viessmann engineer came in to look into the problem, he said it is short-cycling and that my CH system needs to be balanced! I have had nothing but grief from this boiler. My old IDEAL 13-year-old boiler was far more efficient, but sadly it has come to the end of its lifespan. I would not recommend Viessmann based on my experience. Not to mention, their customer service is poor. Stick to Worcester Bosh, Vaillant, Baxi or IDEAL.
    The installers are coming back to balance the CH to see if the short cycling will stop, but I am not holding my breath!
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

      Six months on from my last comment, Viessmann engineers are still coming to try to resolve the CL lockout.
      They checked the installation and have no reservations about how it is installed.
      My system has been powerflushed and balanced.
      Yet the water pressure still drops to 0.4 - 0.1 in less than 24 hours. The engineer replaced the pump and PVR as a precautionary, but he can't tell why the problem persists.
      No leak in the system for the pressure to drop that low in less than 24 hrs.
      All radiators were checked with no trapped air.
      The 5th Viessmann engineer visit is due in 2 days in a space of one year.
      My experience has been horrific from day 1, and not many gas engineers are interested in troubleshooting such a sophisticated boiler.

    do you get much dissipated residual heat into the radiators when using the hot water? i just got a 050-w installed and it seems to be heating the radiators when the hot water is used. the engineer said this was normal but i keep reading about a stuck diverter valve being the cause of this.

    • @thornhillplumbing

      This is not normal. If you hold the flow pipe while you are using hot water , and the flow pipe heats up , this indicates a diverter issue.

    Very good informative video on this first class boiler I have fitted a couple now customer seem very happy with them typical viessmann top quality I have the older 100 series at home and that has been absolutely flawless. It’s 13 years old and all the composite plastic parts are still as new ? unfortunately you go to quite a few that are on contract servicing and have never seen a proper service or an expansion vessel pump up and this includes some of the big brand names!

      Thanks for your comment. I too think this is a great bit of kit. It also saddens me how the service contract companies such as the insurance companies and gas and electric companies do not service their customer's boilers correctly yet charge their customer's every month. I'm not sure how they are allowed to get away with it. It clearly states in the manufacturer instructions how an annual service should be done.

      @@thornhillplumbing No problem mate and thanks again for uploading this excellent video it’s a shame how the service industry is at the moment and it’s been like this for a number of years especially now with the younger generation entering the industry and as you probably know they are not interested in getting their hands dirty! My pet hate is the engineers who come out via the insurance companies to attend boiler breakdowns nine times out of 10 they don’t even want to remove the front case to see what the problem is! (if you believe this or not)Recently had an ideal logic that was gurgling obviously you guessed what the problem is ! yes a blocked condensate trap! one engineer diagnosed it as a faulty circulating pump
      The other point blank refused to remove the front cover and just said it needs a service! Just cleaning the condensate trap is not enough points to the fact that the heat exchanger needs flushing through the burning area downwards. Where I am [brighton Sussex) people have a lot of faith and respect for British Gas but these guys are the absolute worst!! It causes problems for example “why did you take an hour to do a service when British Gas can do it in 30 minutes?.

    PS I’ve only just had it installed!

    • @thornhillplumbing
      @thornhillplumbing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is correct. The temperature of the water leaving the boiler should be approximately what you have set the temperature under the tap symbol. You can try setting the eco mode to on (under the leaf symbol) as if the eco mode is off, the hot water will be pre heated.
      Also, the slower you run a tap, the hotter the water will be, but this should be limited to what you have set the hot water temperature to by tapping the menu button until tap symbol is illuminated.
      I hope this makes sense. The boiler will be under warranty so may be worth calling the installer to check with him, or to arrange a warranty visit from viessmann.

      This boiler does indeed work with underfloor heating , this will not affect the temperature of the hot water or the radiators as the underfloor heating will have its own manifold, pump and blending valve so the temperature of the underfloor can be controlled independently to the rest of the heating.

      You have pipes running from the boiler to the hot taps/outlets. When you open a hot tap, the boiler will fire and send hot water to the taps.
      When you turn the tap off, the hot water that is in the pipes will cool down.
      The next time you.open a tap, you will have to run off all of this cold water..the further away from the boiler the tap is, the more cold water you will have to run off .
      The solution is to make sure all of the pipes are as short and as narrow as possible. 10mm pipes are usually sufficient for basin taps.
      Also pipes should be insulated and the boiler should be positioned as close to all hot outlets as possible.
      I hope this makes sense.

    Why would it be less efficient to heat the house faster? I've always had my boilers set to Max but would you suggest lowering this?

    • @thornhillplumbing
      @thornhillplumbing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Because the higher the return temperature, the hotter the heat exchanger gets, the less the boiler will condense and the more heat is blown outside through the flue and wasted. Also higher temperatures cause more corrosion in the system.

    • @thornhillplumbing
      @thornhillplumbing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Get the flow temperature as low as you can get it . A lower flow temperature to the radiators will also make the rooms more comfortable as the air temperature will be more stable. You will then find you can turn your room stat down also which will save more energy.
