I know it's not a big deal, especially if you don't care much about the lore, but I wanted to correct it, in the case a newcomer got confused by it. But I liked the video and am excited for new content (especially if warhammer related) :)

I’ve only touch the top of the iceberg and that’s already a lot. But I am in love with the world and would love to see more games in different genres and shows, movies etc. I need to see an ork stompa in live action!
I’d say the gameplay is stronger, but I do miss the narrative and setpiece driven missions of Vermintide. Sure, the more generic missions of Darktide are better for overall replayability and the presentation on them is still immaculate, but without a proper story to latch onto it can grow a bit stale with time. It does seem like Fatshark are moving in this direction with special assignments, but still kinda hard to say much with only one out. Overall I think Darktide has the fundamentals necessary to be better than V2, but needs more content to really get there
As someone who did get Deathwing to work in multiplayer with my friends, it was a slog to playthrough and we only did three sessions before giving up. One of us had to be the medic to get anything done and the only thing that person (me) could do the entire game was heal the others because my weapon was complete garbage despite being a boltor that somehow jams during reload because the game uses the active reload system that was very popular due to Gears of War. I get that it's trying to mimic the Space Hulk tabletop game, but jamming weapons is never fun in video games. The weapons felt super weak compared to how strong the enemies were even on normal difficulty, at least that is how my friends and I felt. Just fun for a couple of sessions for us before everyone dropped it. Darktide is definitely better nowadays than it was at launch. I would still say mission variety is still an issue, but it's an issue that will be solved with more time. If only it started at launch the way that it is today it would be in a much better state.
Currently Darktide is probably the best on this list, but they've also had 2 years worth of updates and optimizations. Space Marine 2 is fun, but a little janky and limited at the moment. It'll get way better the more they update it though I'm sure.
Space Marine 2 was so GRAND in its scale, I felt like my 77 inch OLED still wasn’t big enough to handle its scale, I wanted to be COMPLETELY IMMERSED in this game, it was SO EPIC!!!
Space Marine 2 is genuinely one of the best games of 2024, just for the Operations mode alone. It also got one of my kids super hooked on 40K, and I'm stoked about that
On Deathwing: Fair assessment for the most part. It's just a fact that the AI isn't very good. But you can manage them somewhat and giving just one of them full melee makes even the highest difficulty playable. And aside from that: There really is nothing else that is quite like it. On Hired Gun: It can be very fast. Just consider the grapple and the Crush teleport and on top of that the melee skill also speeds you up. Add in dash, double jump, slide, wall-running and the aim assist while using movement skills and you end up having a lot of options for mobility. There is almost no platforming, just a bit of simple grapple use and clambering about and occasionally some required wall-running that isn't any challenge. Not at all similar to Doom Eternal, so that was a bit confusing.
man, looking at clips of space marine 1, im really confused why my brain has this very detailed and high graphic memory of it lol. not like space marine 2 levels obviously, but still looks sooooo much better in my memories then it really does.
Never got into the Warhammer universe but decided to pick up the PS5 version of Darktide. It’s fantastic and I can’t stop playing and now I just want to consume everything that is Warhammer 🤣
Two other games I would mention. There is a little known prequel to Space Marine 1 called Space Marine Kill Team. It was an XBOX Arcade game (I think it was on PSN also). Isometric 3rd person shooter. Not sure how you can play it if you don’t have it already. Inquisitor Martyr is an isometric action adventure game but it’s pretty much a shooter. It’s notable for having more enemy factions than most games. When it first came out. I was sorta disappointed, but I just tried it again on the XBOX Series X and had blast. For the Emperor because of course its for the Emperor.
I'd actually say Darktide feels better than Boltgun, if we are talking gunplay. I'd even say it's just as good as SM2 for example the Bolter feels way more impactful in Darktide.
I actually really liked space marine 2 but one thing I didn't like was that they always nerf your character for the sake of "game mechanics" so it isn't lore accurate. I don't care about the "game experience", I play warhammer for power fantasy and I want to be beefed up and able to destroy a giant terrifying swarm of hundreds upon thousands of tyranids with exploding rocket bullets
I’m honestly kinda glad he gave valid reasons to not like Fire Warrior I was a little nervous he was just gonna be like “Tau suck bleh no melee” but then he gave a super valid reason to dislike the game which I liked
Nice video bro, i'm currently playing Space Marine 1 and it's pretty fun. Could you please tell me what is the song from 2:06 to 4:03? I feel like i've heard it before
personally i think reverse order wouldeve worked better. its pretty obvious which games will be at the best so it'd probably be more interesting to get into worse and more obscure games
I was big into Warhammer when Fire Warrior came out and I was super excited for it. I got it as soon as it came out but by that point my friends and I had already been playing a ton of Halo 1. It hasn't aged well at all but even at the time it felt incredibly dated next to Halo. It was very disappointing but I still finished and I still think it was really cool to get a Warhammer game from a perspective that isn't the Imperium and portrays them as the bad guys, at least for the first half. I would love to see a remake of Fire Warrior or at least more Warhammer games that don't have the Imperium as the 'good guys'.
Subbed. Love ranking lists, but very much appreciate your "that I've played" gimmick. That really should be a requirement when making these lists. Otherwise it's just based on other people's videos or opinions. 👍🏻👍🏻
I have to admit, Space Marine 2 is my favorite game to come out in YEARS!! It's up there with Elden Ring, GTA5 and RE4 remake of all time greats already IMO.. I can't put the game down..
*Spacehulk DEATHWING* : yes, they fixed the coop connection issues etc. with the re-release. *Darktide* : they threw so many updates, free dlc and patches at the game that it almost feels like a different game still wouldn't really change the list(maye put Spacehulk in front of Necromunda *IF* played in coop), but the 2 games definitely got *WAY* better than on initial release. *PS* : *BOLTGUN* DOES mention Captain Titus a couple of times if you pay attention... especially in the taunts.
I'd honestly rank "Space Hulk: DeathWing" second right behind Space Marine 2. Hell, I think it'd be far better if they just took a page out of that more successful's game's book, like add some of its mechanics such as some actions giving you some armor back, and a parry/counter system.
I don't know what you smoking, when putting first space marine above darktide. Interesting gameplay? You just spam one button(left or right, depending on your style of combat) non-stop. Only thing that changes is enemies, and it happens only one time. Many weapons? Only 4 melees and all of them use same "3 attacks - slam(crowd stun), repeat" strat. This became very VERY repeatetive VERY quickly. The only way to diverse this slop with "Fury" mechanic, where you can just stagger enemies by immense power... While ranged weapons not only doesn't feel that much diffrent, but also some of them are very inacccurate to what it supposed to be(like melta which doesn't shoot like a shotgun in a lore).Execution is also for some reason, unlike DoW, doesn't give you invulnerability during animation. Which leads to VERY ANNOYING deaths, if you decide to do it while you surrounded by enemies, especially shooters. Many enemies? There is a melee units with weak, standard and elite version. And there is ranged units with same power types. Repeat again after changing side of conflict in a mid-game. Ah, and there is also a 2(!) bosses,-and QTE-enemy. "They naild it vibe perfectly" Ah yes, Relic nailed it so much, that they make main hero a guy who literally spits on a works of his Primarch father in a first few minutes. While also not hesitating using untested secret weapon of mass destruction, just because of few Orks, who would steal 1(!) Titan. Yes a proud son of Ultramar, unlike Uriel Ventris, Pasanius Lysane and others.. This game overall fall off and already become repetitive during Biolab segment. New enemy side bring some different, but not as much. It's widely known this game was first Relic's expirience in FPS genre. And it shows - this game doesn't awful, but nowhere near to be "very good". I can't even force myself to do 100% this game after 10 years. While Darktide i manage to finish in half of a year, despite all the issues. And don't get me wrong - there is ALOT of issues with Darktide, starting with falling appart engine, bad console ports and awful developer. But if you compare it to Space Marine, it MUCH more deeper, more rewarding, and satisfying. Space Marine doesn't aged well.
@godlyoblivion Seems you need to stop defend garbage game design. No one likes to be put into 5-10 seconds cutscene where you can be killed by cheap damage from a hidden shooter. There is a reson why executions in Doom are short and specials in Darktide can be cancelled.
@@MaSuDezender The game is not designed to flow the same as modern doom or Darktide. Those games have their own great systems but in the confines of SM1, It IS a good thing that you don't get rewarded for bad gameplay. You actively have to think about when you are using executions to heal and where you are using them.
I wish there were more Warhammer fantasy games out there. There's a lot of 40k already, Imagine a warhammer fantasy game but in the style of SpaceMarine 1/2... Would be glorious. Also the online of Space Marine 1 is still Alive, there's still people going some PvP and exterminatus, which is the horde mode 4 player co-op, and cant wait for horde mode in SM2
I played fire warrior as a little kid and I thought it was lame because I was a nasty alien. Had no idea it was a 40k game and now that I look back I wanna throw up because I was a enemy to the imperium.
As much as I’m getting into the strategy games with warhammer franchise, I hate the fact that they are releasing more strategic games of warhammer, I hope to see more space marine like warhammer games with stories of more factions than titus
For me it's still Darktide. Already with the Vermintide games, Fatshark has really nailed the in-your-face, edge-of-your-seat brutal action better than anyone else, including Valve. There is just nothing as visceral in first person as Vermintide 2 and Darktide. Only Deep Rock Galactic is not far behind in this particular category.
Hey brother! May I suggest you put the actual titles of the games in the description at the very least? I know you say them in the video, but still would be nice to see in description 😅
BOLTGUN is awesome fun, and so is Space Marines 2, if you can run it. Me, just on MEDIUM... But honestly, that's the deepest I've ever been in WARHAMMER lore, DOOMer BOOMer here. Coming from the outside, all I can say in Space Marines 2 has heavy StarCraft tones. posted my own video about BOLTGUN recently.

good catch, not even I caught that one! Alright there is the smallest of references lol
There's also the line "Siddonus laid down his life for this planet, I will protect his sacrifice"
And the Power source you come across is the same as the one in both Space Marine games.

Pretty sure the planet in Boltgun is the same one from Space Marine 1, so its kind of a spiritual sequal.

But I am in love with the world and would love to see more games in different genres and shows, movies etc. I need to see an ork stompa in live action!
Nothing makes me happier than more people getting into Warhammer the newest game really put so many people on
Id honestly give darktide the number one spot now and even say its better than vermintide 2 at its current state.
There both great games though arguably best character VA ive seen since a long time was of Vermintide 2 The Ubersreik 5
Overall I think Darktide has the fundamentals necessary to be better than V2, but needs more content to really get there
Hiya 👋 from England Lancashire 🇬🇧 got yourself a sub
If only it started at launch the way that it is today it would be in a much better state.
you cannot judge darktide until you put hours into it. its by far the best warhammer game ever made
11:01 I recently played the game with a buddy and the coop worked great. You should definitely try it again
23:43 uhhhh…..what? DOZENS!!!! You don’t say
Your list at least to me is objectively perfect top 3 Warhammer games space marine 2, boltgun and space marine perfection
SM2 is a beautiful, tedious game
For the emperor! Great video as always Jonathan
Space Marine 2 is genuinely one of the best games of 2024, just for the Operations mode alone.
It also got one of my kids super hooked on 40K, and I'm stoked about that
The 5 fans of space hulk deathwing are having a field day with this one
32:00 I played space marines 2 campaign on cloud gaming with my phone and there was no lag👌
If darktide isn't first I'm going to MALD
idk what MALD is, but did you do it?
did you witness the heresy he spews, brother?
@CoochiKente go mad and bald at the same time haha HERESY INDEED
I was never interested in warhammer, but man space marine 2 is so good that i just love this universe now
Not playing Dawn of War, or Mechanicus, IS heresy!
Pretty solid review, you deserve mor subs
Fire warrior was the first Warhammer experience i had it was great
On Deathwing:
Fair assessment for the most part. It's just a fact that the AI isn't very good. But you can manage them somewhat and giving just one of them full melee makes even the highest difficulty playable. And aside from that: There really is nothing else that is quite like it.
On Hired Gun:
It can be very fast.
I think the video quality for that part isn't great, I replayed it again last month and it looks way better
I love Darktide really great horde shooter great atmosphere and the gore system is actually amazing
Vaporwave Spotted at 11:35 🎉🎉🎉
The main character of Boltgun is more like a custodes lmao
Good video. I’ll try out bolt gun now
darktide is absolutely a better shooter than space marine 1 lol.
😊
I prefer it to Space Marine 2 as well in some aspects. The server quality holds it back though.
@@CauseIGotAMeathammer yeah i was playing auric damnation level and i have never fought so many enemies. it has a much higher skill ceiling as well.
Darktide should take nr1 spot. Space marine 2 doesn't have enough content to yet to take first play imo
Space Marine 2's combat system is also REALLY shallow compared to Darktide. There's no real skill expression
Space Hulk Deathwing armor felt paper thin, but I thought it was much better than Hired Gun
I feel like i've heard it before
@@RAM8476-o5g sewer theme in paper Mario ttyd thanks for watching!
personally i think reverse order wouldeve worked better. its pretty obvious which games will be at the best so it'd probably be more interesting to get into worse and more obscure games
*Darktide* : they threw so many updates, free dlc and patches at the game that it almost feels like a different game
still wouldn't really change the list(maye put Spacehulk in front of Necromunda *IF* played in coop), but the 2 games definitely got *WAY* better than on initial release.
*PS* : *BOLTGUN* DOES mention Captain Titus a couple of times if you pay attention... especially in the taunts.
Boltgun is AWESOME~!! I just got it for $10 on ps5 and I'm having a blast with it!
I'd honestly rank "Space Hulk: DeathWing" second right behind Space Marine 2.
Hell, I think it'd be far better if they just took a page out of that more successful's game's book, like add some of its mechanics such as some actions giving you some armor back, and a parry/counter system.
Watched this hoping I'd find a new Warhammer game to play, but alas, I have them all.
I still can’t believe Boltgun never got a PS4 or Xbox one physical copy release. Very sad.😢
YOU GOT NEW FRIENDS NOW SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYCE MAREEEENEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I bought the PS5 on Black Friday. Now i just need to buy Space Marine 2!
You missed the fact that Final Liberation is the best 40K game ever
Warhammer 40K: BOLTGUN reminds me of old classic Doom
Am I the only one who noticed the marathon logo on the door at 4:13?
D A R K T I D E
Seems you need to put some more thought into when and where you are using executions if you are dying a lot when trying to do them.
There's a lot of 40k already,
Imagine a warhammer fantasy game but in the style of SpaceMarine 1/2... Would be glorious.
Also the online of Space Marine 1 is still Alive, there's still people going some PvP and exterminatus, which is the horde mode 4 player co-op, and cant wait for horde mode in SM2
There's a pretty good one called Vermintide and they have 2 instalments already
I played fire warrior as a little kid and I thought it was lame because I was a nasty alien. Had no idea it was a 40k game and now that I look back I wanna throw up because I was a enemy to the imperium.
On SM1 ps3 we had full lobbies on multiplayer every weekend for years all the way up till a few weeks after SM2
The first one was apparently a Halo killer according to some. I didn't believe it
As much as I’m getting into the strategy games with warhammer franchise, I hate the fact that they are releasing more strategic games of warhammer, I hope to see more space marine like warhammer games with stories of more factions than titus
And not a single Primarch in them except for 2
Robute and Motarian, I can’t find any other that appeared in a video game
For me it's still Darktide. Already with the Vermintide games, Fatshark has really nailed the in-your-face, edge-of-your-seat brutal action better than anyone else, including Valve. There is just nothing as visceral in first person as Vermintide 2 and Darktide. Only Deep Rock Galactic is not far behind in this particular category.
You are wrong about the personalities in darktide, they are pretty fleshed out at this point.
YES! The madman finally did it

Hey brother! May I suggest you put the actual titles of the games in the description at the very least? I know you say them in the video, but still would be nice to see in description 😅
Darktide is best X2
SM2 is the best for sure but it did the bolt gun dirty and didn’t give it justice both in terms of power and feel
I think the studio from paris's magnum opus is still edc, but necromunda is a solid second
