Polari Remembered By Stan Munro

76 year-old performer, actor, female impersonator and leading Les Girl Stan Munro recalls his experiences of hearing and using the gay slang language of Polari in the UK and then Australia where he migrated .
Stan worked in the UK as a performer with the likes of the Andrews Sisters, Petula Clark, Adam Faith, Anthony Newley, Tommy Cooper and Larry Grayson.
In 1963 he migrated to Australia where he became a host and female impersonator with the famous Les Girls in Sydney and Melbourne. He also made many appearances on Australian television with stars such as Graham Kennedy, Bert Newton and Mike Walsh. He also appeared in films such as the seminal Alvin Purple in which he played a transvestite.
His career has also taken him to Germany, the Lebanon and Hong Kong where he has worked. He now lives in northern New South Wales where he still performs.
