This song is beyond legendary. It has cemented Kanye's legacy forever.
The whole album was made during the peak of the most interesting Kanye era which started with Graduation

1st: Wow! I didn't expect to see this song get a reaction video on this channel. A very pleasant surprise.
2nd: Did his musical downfall start with this (My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy) or the album before this one (808s & Heartbreaks)? I'm going to try to keep record sales or chart positions or critical reception out of the equation as I answer this. It's probably not my place to give my opinion on this since I don't worship Kanye (I still like him a lot) but I don't think he has ever had a downfall and I don't think he has ever made a mediocre or worse album (I'm only talking about his solo albums, not those 3 collaboration albums he did with other artists; I've never heard any of those). But, focusing on Dark Fantasy and Heartbreaks, I assume some people in the comments call those records his "downfall" because of the musical directions he chose for those albums. He shifts his musical direction on every album so, of course, this would lead to a very diverse and divisive fanbase. On Heartbreaks, he jumped on that autotune bandwagon that was popular in the late 2000s and he ditched rapping for singing. If you didn't like the autotune trend (and if you preferred your rappers to stick to rapping) then I'd imagine 808s & Heartbreaks sounded like a disappointment to you. Yet, I hear mostly positive things about the record to the point that many of the most influential rappers today, like Drake, were heavily influenced by it to the point of modeling their earlier music styling off of that record. The same I've heard for Dark Twisted Fantasy and all his records before that. To avoid typing a whole essay about Kanye's music, his shifting musical style on every album may not please everyone but that doesn't mean he has ever made a bad piece of work yet.
3rd: Even though my introduction to this song was the clip of him performing a shortened version at the 2010 VMAs, I've listened to this long version and watched its accompanied music video way more so I'm used to this long 9 minute version.

Love Kanye, all ages, actually 808 and Heartbreaks is his only bad album. I particularly love his Wyoming period, he dropped five dope albums in the space of a year - his solo album, pusha t, teyana taylor, kids see ghosts and nas.

Bad album? It isn't 2008 anymore. People finally realised the genius of 808's years ago. Don't get me wrong, we're all allowed to have an opinion but that is one hell of a hot take. While it's not his best album, it's by far my favourite.

I dunno who the people are that have said Kanye’s “downfall” began with MBDTF. Aside from the fact that Kanye hasn’t undergone a downfall in the first place, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is his opus and one of the best albums in music history (and that’s not just my opinion - a quick google search will show that sentiment to be quite universal).

This is where really controversial Kanye started.. only got worse with time. His last good album, in my opinion (not counting "Watch The Throne" with Jay-Z). There are a couple of good songs here and there after, but he lost a lot of people after this album. There was so much greatness in him.

This is the first time I listened to that song all way through. Whenever I heard it I changed the station. As someone who likes hardcore underground rap, Kanye's a clown in one big circus. He's really talented though, but he's just too much of a loon for me.

I would say there is a downfall of overall Kanye quality going into the mid 2010s but its complicated because theres merit and genius to all of his albums. Personally I think there's a spark that Kanye doesn't have after a certain point despite still making amazing music. His output is spottier and feels less polished overall these days too and it doesn't feel good to listen to him for me anymore because of some of the things he says nowadays but i do not like most of the newest album very much either, partially because of the stuff he says publicly and the ways he plays rhe provocateur about it in the lyrics but also because much of it feels somewhat uninspired to me even though its objectively fun music. Every album up through Donda has a lot on it that i think is brilliant though so its not like a dramatic loss of talent but more about a change of attitude and character that Kanye went through as the years went on. The best analogy ive heard for it is its kinda like a hero becoming a villain in a pro wrestling storyline.
