I agree. There are so many beautiful old cars in the world like the 911 or the BMW E30, or the Audi 80 or 100. They are all awesome and thata what we want. Old cars with new Technologie inside.
Sorry, but the F40 needs no improvement. And the diablo only needs a new gearbox and a MUCH improved electrical system. and some other electronical upgrades so that they won't fail on you and make the engine useless........
F40 needs no improvement. Diablo could be good but the price would just go astronomical if Singer'ed. Maybe Lamborghini Uracco, Dino 246 GTS (Ferrari), Porsche 914/924 or Lancia Stratos could be better candidates.
The concept reminds me of the Alfa Romeo GTA-R 290 by Alfaholics. This idea is just made for old italian cars. Would love to see it done to a Lancia Fulvia or a Fiat 124 Abarth or an Alfa GTV-6 or even a countach.
A very interesting point he made there.... "The sensation of performance".... Everyone now a days is so stuck about "bhp/whp" "power to weight" "top speed,0-100".... But what really matters is the sensation of performance.... Hw the machine makes u feel.... Think of it this way.... Whenever u take a flight to some place... Ur easily always doing more than 400 mph. But you don't enjoy it... It doesn't matter.... But doing 60mph while dodging moving traffic is the best feeling ever... Real driving isn't about moving extremely fast from A-B.... Its the smile on your face when u throttle the beast....
Completely agree. Most owners of modern performance cars will never get near the limit of what the car can do on public roads. One of my favourite driving experiences was driving a hired golf, not even a GTI ringing its little neck around the Scottish highlands. I'd be surprised if I often hit 70, but on windy one track lanes where I was probably the only car for a couple of miles I felt like James bond
I've driven a friends Singer. 4,000 man hrs goes into each one. That's less than $100 an hr. Amazing cars. When you figure that a 70's 230hp 930 sells for $250k, these cars start to make sense. The car is kept numbers matching, and Singer's reputation means that it will hold it's value.
Fred Garvin as far as value holding, i have to disagree. it's a personalized kit car at best and yes I did drive not one but 2 and almost purchased one. I know to each there own and I'm happy for you having wonder experience that most won't or ever.

If you watched this episode, (Season 21 Episode 4 i think), Jeremy mentioned in the first part of the show, "Now, 1963 saw the birth of 2 things I'm not interested at. The Porsche 911, and James May."
I've never been particularly interested in the 911. I always knew it was a fast and competent car, built the quality and simplicity expected from German automakers, but because I've never driven a rear engined car I could never really relate to what one would be like to drive. Instead, because I could only afford Japanese cars that's where I found my happy place. I'd take my car in stock configuration and modify it, to try and make it something more than it was when it was completely stock. And although examples abound of people doing modifications poorly, the instances where such a task is done right always stand out. I've always loved modified cars, it doesn't matter what make, what region. The simple idea of seeing someone take a car and treat it like a blank canvas to bring to life their vision of what the car should have been is mesmerizing. For this reason I think the Singer 911 is probably the best of both worlds, and even though I've never been a huge fan of the 911; I think its one of the most beautiful cars in the world.
You can’t, there are far more laws and regulations now that every car maker has to meet. In old classic would fail every safety test. That’s not even considering emissions, materials used, everything that has already been band(for new car standards)
There has never been, and I do not foresee there ever being, a car that pulls at my heart like a Singer. My god. Since I watched this episode when it aired, to 2023, it’s been number one icon and dream car for me, and nothing has come close to toppling it.
James: “This electric power steering is fine, people shouldn’t complain about it” Also James: “This (hydraulic) steering is utterly intuitive and tremendous!”
I first knew this car as an Assetto Corsa mod Then I came across this video and realised that it's actually a modern classic At the end of the video you can say I appreciate the Singer crew for their hard work, dedication and passion.
There are two types of enthusiasts in this world: Those who like cars because of Image (Badge, Horsepower, popularity, design) and those who like cars because of the sensation of everything else (The sound, the ownership, the cruise, the drive). The first ones, are the ones who usually don't like, don't mind a 911.
Actually that's not necessarily true, because Porsche still is one of the biggest names in the super/sports car business. It's pretty much the only car company which can compete with Ferrari when it comes to racing pedigree. I agree with the second point, that people who love the essence of driving always love Porsches, but there are also a lot of people who like Porsches, because of the badge, the power, the looks, etc.
There's an owner with a teal Singer locally. I'm not a huge fan of Porsche in general but this one is one of the coolest and most beautiful cars out there. Like who would have thought about putting quilted leather in the engine bay? Wasn't aware that so much time went into that car and made me appreciate it even more!
SIGUR RÓS!!! What an amazing machine!!!! What a gorgeous car! And I agree - the feeling of the car is more important than the performance... even because most of us mortals (and the guys who actually have the $$ to buy such a car) will not drive those cars all the time on a race track. It sure is fun to go 0-60 in less than 3 seconds, but you won't use that "feature" all the time.
That Singer 911 is freakin' sweetness. Great concept and follow through. Definite future classic like the GT3 4.0. As for the new 911 and Turbo S, they should have gone with 4 HID "angel eyes" per headlight. Make'em smaller and squeeze them in there so they go along with the 918 and of course the 919 hybrid P1 racecar, and give the Caymen and Boxter the same treatment, so that the quad HID thing would be the current Porsche design signature.
In my opinion his best told, beautifully brought piece of car review ever, across all shows. Just like Jeremy and his piece on Lancia… utterly magnificent
That Singer is a beauty. I've seen two of them in California, and they're some of the best-looking Porsches ever done in my opinion. It's sort-of like Eagle with the E-type.

I've seen the Singer Toolshed in California... several of these wonderful cars exist there. They are beautiful! and bravo for Capt Yob! Never seen him drive so Clarksonian!
Back when the cars this were based on were new I loved the look of them, but when I see one now it doesn't quite add up to how I remember it and I'm disappointed, but what Singer have done with their subtle exterior modifications is create a car that looks just like my "fantasy" of the past. Then there is the interior, I was so disappointed the first time I got a good look inside a 911 in the early 80's, but Singer's interior treatment provides an interior to match the expectation the external beauty creates. They are a crazy price, but so are many other supercars, what the Singer has is that classic beauty and style that cannot be created in the modern Supercars, if I was ever in the market for such an expensive toy, this would definitely be on my shopping list.
Can someone please(!) tell me the name of the song starting at 0:09? It sounds mind-torturingly familiar, but I can't, for the life of me, tell what it is.
I love cars. I am obsessed with them. Old and new. I was born in Southern California and, in high school, I loved pulling my Volkswagen Beetle into the driveway to wash it on warm breezy day. Fast forward 15 years. I moved to NYC to be an artist. I am carless and it's killing me. I feel stuck. Trapped on this island with no way out. Rental cars are not the answer. They are lifeless. My only respite is to spend countless hours researching and dreaming about cars through this inflexible glowing screen. From the Toyota Prius to the Rolls Royce Phantom, all cars are noble expressions of human engineering, ingenuity, and creativity. For me, however, there is one car that sits at the apex of all others. If I can own just one automobile in the world it would be a Porsche by Singer. The Singer 911 is a masterpiece. I do not say this flippantly. Yes, the Singer 911 is a masterpiece at the level of Michelangelo's Pieta. It is rolling sculpture. Every curve, every detail is excruciatingly crafted. It's so beautiful that, upon a glance, Medusa herself would turn to stone. My hairs stand up on the back of my neck. My arms and legs go numb. My whole body trembles. I weep. In the end, I don't know how I will ever be able to afford a Porsche by Singer. Now my dream becomes my nightmare...
James May was the host with the right sensibilities to give the Singer 911 its feature. Pity it wasn’t longer. I could watch him for 2-3 hours giving an in-depth review of this car, company, build, etc...
How can one not like the Singer or the idea of this homage and its concept. No it's absolutly no sacrilege, it's a love letter written on hand made paper but with modern non bleaching ink, but both from the same original monastery. Ok, I normally don't really trust in American craftsmanship, I don't give a shit to their sense of quality, size accuracy and perfection. So if the blokes at Singer didn't ruin the old parts the thing might be worth each dollar. Each thing an individual item with history and made with lots of love and passion (hopefully).
I love how James talks. You can see he's been reading a lot. He has a way with words.

These videos are just masterpieces themselves like the masterpiece of machinery they exhibit
so gorgeous, both of the 911s
Super awesome job with the new 911 Porsche! Keep up the good work guys
Grand Tour is great but I miss the o.g. Top Gear...never will be quite the same
The old Porsche 911 coupled with modern machinery is absolutely glamorous. Bravo Singer!!!
I have noticed that james may like to drive fast in proper driver cars.
that car looks like its comfortable to drive for some reason
The song on 3:23 is Hybrid - Mr Smith
Thanks! I've been trying to find the name of that track for ages.
LudensP London Music Works - Inception-Time
Do you know what the song at 0:34 is
"It's a love letter to a car" OMG .... chill bumps
4:40 Clarkson would have said: And the brakes actually work.
They are a crazy price, but so are many other supercars, what the Singer has is that classic beauty and style that cannot be created in the modern Supercars, if I was ever in the market for such an expensive toy, this would definitely be on my shopping list.
damn, those old Porche's look sexy
really nice work on that car. i am not a porche fan but that singer is pure class. absolutely perfect. the tach going to 11 !!!
Can someone please(!) tell me the name of the song starting at 0:09? It sounds mind-torturingly familiar, but I can't, for the life of me, tell what it is.
Porches will always be a modern classic because of that iconic shape
I love James but shouldn't Richard be reviewing 911s?
Robert Ferruggiari boath are
ROFLcopter
Well they thought so too originally. But the first day, the hamster wouldn't get out of the car once he was in it.
+Ralph Knox Johnson - Are you trolling us or are you simply one of the worst spellers in the world?
+Robert Ferruggiari I think James is the perfect man for the job.
because hammond is a secret American
Great, something else that I want that I can not afford.
Yeah... that's been happening a lot lately.
James May was the host with the right sensibilities to give the Singer 911 its feature. Pity it wasn’t longer. I could watch him for 2-3 hours giving an in-depth review of this car, company, build, etc...
"How could you not like a 9/11?"
Babby Babbyson *911
Babby Babbyson A stylish beetle... no more. :-)
Shane Fell He was being sarcastic, making a joke about the 9/11 at USA...
brunoraoni who even cares about this Farce anymore?
brunoraoni being able to Forget really seems to be a gift not everyone is lucky to have
yo soy chileno y no entiendo mucho lo que hablan pero el hecho de que manejen y muestren los autos me encanta y no dejos de verlo :)
Each thing an individual item with history and made with lots of love and passion (hopefully).
the guy who owns singer is english
Something about these old Top Gear reviews stirs your emotions like nothing else. Think of how many had their love of cars born from Top Gear
Woah James can actually drift...
"tribute band than can rock like the original.". you are a foooool!!😆 great way to put it!
Amazing car. Amazing price too. You could own an original 1973 Carrera RS for this. The question is, would you?
yesss!
I saw an original RS sell for close to $1m at a RM auction. Magnificent car.
Cpt Slow? I dont think so... What a car. There are not enough words to describe this car, maybe one. Legend
Gotta love James May
God! These Singer Porsches are just so unbelievably beautiful.. :')
