  • My Emco Unimat 3 lathe was repowered with a 1/3hp Bench drill back in 2005 as a cost effective solution, it was the cheapest bench drill. I am replacing the brass screws in the Stephenson's valve gear with bolts so that there is a plain shank for a bearing instead of a screw thread. The chassis air-test isn't far away, I just need to make the inlet manifold to connect both cylinders 👍

Hi Dave. Well now I know what to do when my little motor takes a long drop. Loved it keep up the great work.

Nice idea, I need to come up with a temporary way to make pulleys for my lathe, Minilor TR1. The headstock spindle is D shaped so am struggling to buy something close.

Whenever leaving a shoulder on a homemade bolt I make a sleeve to go over the plain portion so the thread is the right length.
Personally I would have case hardened the valve gear and used steel bolts.

I also have a Unimat, and have to pad-out the underside of the cutting tools similarly to the way I think yours is. I bought it second hand so I've no idea why this is - whether the tools are the incorrect ones for the lathe or some other reason
    Otherwise, useful little machine

It's quite normal. As soon as one starts sharpening the tools, material is lost and they will need packing to centre height. They are good machines

This could be an useful addition, but do not look very tide with that very long belt….and that curved tin …. Really looks poor….
