It feels like Elon is too much into controlling tech to open source it. Glad to be wrong, just my observation.
As a Tesla investor I vote NO to open sourcing FSD.
Lol agreed
Open source is a dumb scheme where some sucker provides free software. Best case it is important enough like Linux that the maintainers get enough money somehow to keep doing it and corporations throw money at it for the benefit and donate programmers to it.
Or it can be like Redis a widely used database that Amazon makes a lot of money off of by reselling it for cash. Then some VC starts a money making scheme based on it and slurps up the creator, kicks him out for cash, and close sources it. Then the forking begins. Because Amazon would rather pay bare minimum to the fork people than the original batch.
Or it can be like the XZ guy who got burned out making and supporting free software, got conned into accepting help from a hacker, who then barely vrey luckily got caught before adding a hard to spot backdoor to linux. Basically we now have proof that the whole linux secure thing cuz eyeballs is bs. You could have figured that out yourself, but now you don't have to. The claim is just false.
@@evidenceX …. Unless you are driving the Tesla car 😂
No, FSD should absolutely NOT be open sources.
Just because it's Open Source doesn't mean it's Open Updatable... just sayin❤
NO Tesla's FSD should not be open sourced. Should they be the only ones to NOT profit from a great invention? F that.
Open sourcing FSD would certainly upset the shareholders…
NO, for God sakes, no F$&King way! Why?? Security!
I definitely think NOT, because if FSD were open-sourced some factions would try to make a compromised version of it on purpose to damage reputation. They would likely do it with a zero-day attack embedded by some date or trigger, so that by the time it manifested the perpetrators would be long gone or well masked. I don't know why you would even ask such a question for a video. Don't you 'Know-it-All'??
I built my business on closed source code. No patents. . . just what was in my head.
No to open source FSD .
Don’t give your golden egg to anybody until it hatches.
And maintain control of that 🐥 once it does and License it to the have not Automotive Companies! So Tesla is rewarded for staying true to the FSD Development Path despite all the negative press and scrutiny!
Tesla needs to keep FSD as guaranteed income
I can't believe they stole Winamp's logo 😮💨
I think Musk might say to Zuck, hey, if you want an open source self driving system, why don't you start one yourself? And I feel the same way.
Now, um, as to Soylent, if you say it's great, I believe you! Just can't quite get past the name 😶
FSD should be company proprietary, so many and so much resources have been comitted to bring it to this current state that Tesla should be able to profit from opening up the technology.
For the field to grow competitors need to explore other methods for getting better or equivalent solutions using Tesla as a benchmark.😅
FSD Open Source Program:
1:"Load petabytes of clean data"
2: "Go learn".
Open source is a fiction we tell ourselves. In every situation, the best available open source version of anything is simultaneously superceded by a more advanced non-open source version kept for guarded benefit, whether privately or governmental. Ergo, there is always a better stick than the one being given away.
Obligatory post to emphasize you can’t rebuild llama3 from scratch so you don’t really know what is inside, which is not in spirit of true open source. Even after fine tuning sleeper agents can be present with their own motives. We can patch and mod it, but can’t rebuild it from scratch or verify what’s inside, which is key to proper open source.
Read the XZ exploit. Open source is just broken as a "security scheme".
@@dirkbester9050 open source is how they found and learned all about it.
You know what, where we may get stuck on sub-optimal peaks in function models, I wonder where we are at in masking and merging separately trained models during mid training and fine-tuning. Try to give a few cruxes and peaks a fighting chance early before they get lost in training. For those who don't have millions or the data to train a competitive model. I suppose MoE is an approach that avoids the need to merge.
A possible event where a lot of the Tesla community set each other up, and drove FSD in a huge fleet at the same time in a smaller town / limited area in a big city / at night. Then the world could open its eyes to how fantastic FSD is close to becoming 😍 Aren't you the man to create such a party 😉
Isn’t this still the function of patent and copyright laws? You get the advantage for a while, but then the technology becomes open source?
Perfect! I love these little detailed touches. I could only imagine Tachy saying to EVE in training, “EVE! It’s not the time for that. Now let’s practice jumping off my sword.”
EVE: 🤨
No open source .I'm a FrenchTesla shareholder 😀. I dont like Meta and his boss
Any Open Sources in CCP? 🤣🤣🤣
FSD open source can be more easily hacked. No?
Alternative point of view: Open source doesn’t kill investment into smaller companies wanting to train their own models. It may in fact reduce the barriers to entry and provide a platform for new entrants to build on top of open source foundational models at a far lower upfront cost :)
AI needs big players. Microsoft is planning on building a $100 billion data centre for AI, ain’t no way is an open source company affording that
If self driving becomes ubiquitous and high quality I think it should be open sourced so it can be as safe and trusted as possible. Until then, Tesla should keep its moat and reward their customers & investors.
Blackberry QNX SDP 8.0 coming Open Source from words posted on LinkedIn. Its due near 8/8 and its used in the top 24 of 25EVs. Interesting times
There are two aspects to this - the weights which they released which is the model (GGUF file) which you can download to run locally using CPU or GPU or in the cloud using open-source programs like Ollama.
The AI model itself is not source - there are no source code present - just weights - a bunch of numbers really.
The important stuff is the training data and the programs to build, validate and tune the model that generates the weights in the end.
It is useless to release this as open source unless you have the AI compute hardware at the scale of Meta or OpenAI.
Look at Linux. Many large companies like AWS, Microsoft, Google, IBM, Intel have full time developers working on it. You sell the service, hardware, etc to monetize your work investment in open source
Think about the shareholders!
Eventually it will
Soylent green is people. 😉
Operating Systems in the 80s were the hot item. Now they are a cost of doing business. The value add has moved on. This will happen in ai models
Its pretty obvious the more interesting people you interview the more of them want to be interviewed. And no having interesting friends all the time is not anywhere close to actual interview channel. This guy had the other guy from open AI already. He was just under 100k before rhe Zucc interview.
OMG. Maybe new models should be pre-trained with code and perfect grammar from language books.
The Matrix would have made more sense if they were using human brains to run AI software.
An ad for Soylent!?!? Is Soylent Green a reality now? If so, society has definitely has gone down the wrong path.
The other soylents were not as bad as the green one.
Soy = convert men to transgenders
I have heard soylent green has the best taste. True?
Only if its fresh
I tried lama3, and I'm not impressed. It doesn't understand simple concepts like a ground floor house plan. Keeps creating 2,3 floors houses.
To answer your question, I downvoted this video.
"Maybe you can become a *little* more racist, I dunno..." *rolls eyes* 🤣🤣🤣
- a very disappointed Dr Know-It-All
Not until it’s 99.9999% safe. Then it will be like seat belts. It would be socially improper to keep this to themselves when it could save lives.
They can share it under a profitable licensing deal, like Microsoft did with MS Dos, Windows which is on multiple brand PC Conforming Hardware. The same type of system standards specifications will need to be established to port it to other manufacturers. Such as Ford, GM, Toyota, Honda, Hyundai/Kia, Subaru, and the Chinese. It should be internet keyed, so that the software will only enable, when the company conforms to paying the license fee on the vehicle on a monthly basis, with. Default, that if the licensing company fails to keep up on payments due to financial issues or ill will, the software will offer the car owners of the now out of Grace car manufacturer, the right to pick up the authorization license on an individual, monthly or yearly basis, with refunds for unused portions of time, at the individual customer’s choice, if the company that fell out of contract, picks it up again to restart bulk licensing payments. I figure a vehicle would be bulk licensed for a maximum of 8 year window, and if after that, and owner wants to continue individual monthly or yearly licenses, they can pay Tesla directly and the original manufacturer is cut out and all profit goes to Tesla as well as the cost to keep updating the AI with new learning from accumulated experience database learning.
Zuckerberg spends a lot of time thinking about these things. Poorly.
How could tesla open source a learning ai, sure you could open source the learning model ...no programming.
META is going after Microsoft which is trying to lock all of OpenAI into Microsoft.
No FSD open source; as an investor I vote no. The Chinese competitors are on their toes waiting for FSD open source, once it is open sourced, the Chinese competitors are going to replicate, rewrite, improve and claim they invented everything themselves. If this does happen, BYD, HW etc will eat most of Tesla market shares; they will eat Tesla live, and Tesla stock will go below $5. Big NO. Elon please be aware, if CCP forces you to open source FSD in order to sell FSD in China, just give up Chinese market; it's not worth it.
I do not want to see open source self driving vehicles on the read. If you think human drivers are dangerous ,just wait until they program their own cars !
NO to open sourcing FSD. I can't believe you'd even consider it.
No. Don't open source FSD. Llama is not how Meta makes their revenue. They make money from advertising. FSD is how Tesla makes money
No do not open source fsd. They worked hard to make it.
Nooooo!
No... Tesla isn't a non profit
Suckerburg
Oh god are we going to AGAIN trot out the silly open sores argument… this was shown decades ago to be an option in some cases but that’s it.
FSD should be licensed to other auto makers and others that would benefit. I want the stock to go up. Jeannine
I think you can tell by the comments below that it’s a terrible idea.
FSD is not a video game. It should not be open sourced at this point in its development, or ever.
! absolutely Not!
FSD IS A LICENSABLE SOFTWARE / hardware product …
that is as close to “open source” AVAILABILITY as anyone can justify as a investor!
FSD is already “open source” because a former Tesla employee stole the source code and gave it to Xpeng.
Fuc$ NO
Can I be more clear
FSD my favorite topic!
I'm not an AI geek and I don't play one on TH-cam
but why in the world AI geeks use an 80-year-old technology - neural nets (NN) - is beyond me
can I say lazy?
FSD has an Achilles' heel, NNs.
All a NN does is find things in a sea of data.
Neurophysiologist Warren McCulloch and mathematician Walter Pitts published a paper on how neurons might work in 1940.
Today, NNs are not needed to find anything made by man-those objects ALL now exist in a 3D database that engineers and architects use all day long. That is the way to ID manmade objects, not an NN that requires thousands of pictures of the same object from every angle and every lighting condition.
This is the reason FSD only recognizes probably 200 objects
a STOP sign
a 55 MPH sign
but it has no idea what a 57 MPH sign is and never even sees it
FSD has no general purpose sign reader - another reason states/countries will never certify it - thousands of warning and advisory signs FSD ignores since it can't read them.
A 3D database allows a robot to instantly ID hundreds of things around it in a milisecond since each 3D object can be rendered from any angle and any lighting condition and partially obstructed.
FSD won't make it to SAE Level-4 autonomous driving since it can't read the word STOP. Just recognize a red octagon with STOP on it.
Providing open source of something that is a failure isn't worth the time spent uploading it to GitHub or SourceForge. Old old ideas that failed.
Curious.
How exactly would you ID an object from that 3D database in a picture/video, then, Mr. left? Do you have some sort of a working code?
@@jsjs6751@jsjs6751 I'm a retired engineer - I just post on TH-cam now.
The AI geeks that use NNs should have spent the time working with the millions of 3D rendered objects that exist today - not the world of 80 years ago when no such database existed and the NN way was the way to ID something.
If the robot geeks ever want a robot that can navigate the world we humans live in, it must ID hundreds of things a second, and NNs are probably the worst way to do that.
Someone will find a way to do this - my guess is analog computers based on waves storing the drawings in a holograph is the way to go.
But for now, Robots that want to inhabit the human world don't exist.
Apple's robot will use LIDAR to map out the house it will roam around in and it too will need to render many objects a second and it won't use NNs to do it - I have no idea how they will do this.
@@noleftturns You have no clue about how and why AI works, or why emulating the brain is a brilliant move, do you?
@@jsjs6751 So I asked AI (Copilot) this question:
Q: Tell me how AI works in a digital computer
AI:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) in digital computers involves programming systems to learn from data and recognize patterns. Let’s delve into the basics of how AI works:
Input:
Data is collected from various sources, including text, audio, and videos.
The collected data is categorized for processing.
Processing:
AI algorithms analyze the data using patterns they’ve learned.
The system identifies similar patterns in the filtered data.
Outcomes:
AI predicts outcomes based on recognized patterns.
It determines whether specific data matches previous patterns.
Adjustments:
When data is considered a “fail,” AI learns from the mistake.
The algorithm may need adjustments to align with the current data set.
Assessments:
AI synthesizes insights from the data to make predictions.
These predictions inform decisions and tasks1.
In summary, AI enables computers to learn and solve problems by analyzing large data sets, identifying patterns, and making decisions-almost like a person!
==================
That's how it works - direct from AI!
