      Open source is a dumb scheme where some sucker provides free software. Best case it is important enough like Linux that the maintainers get enough money somehow to keep doing it and corporations throw money at it for the benefit and donate programmers to it.
      Or it can be like Redis a widely used database that Amazon makes a lot of money off of by reselling it for cash. Then some VC starts a money making scheme based on it and slurps up the creator, kicks him out for cash, and close sources it. Then the forking begins. Because Amazon would rather pay bare minimum to the fork people than the original batch.
      Or it can be like the XZ guy who got burned out making and supporting free software, got conned into accepting help from a hacker, who then barely vrey luckily got caught before adding a hard to spot backdoor to linux. Basically we now have proof that the whole linux secure thing cuz eyeballs is bs. You could have figured that out yourself, but now you don't have to. The claim is just false.

    I definitely think NOT, because if FSD were open-sourced some factions would try to make a compromised version of it on purpose to damage reputation. They would likely do it with a zero-day attack embedded by some date or trigger, so that by the time it manifested the perpetrators would be long gone or well masked. I don't know why you would even ask such a question for a video. Don't you 'Know-it-All'??

Ergo, there is always a better stick than the one being given away.

    You know what, where we may get stuck on sub-optimal peaks in function models, I wonder where we are at in masking and merging separately trained models during mid training and fine-tuning. Try to give a few cruxes and peaks a fighting chance early before they get lost in training. For those who don't have millions or the data to train a competitive model. I suppose MoE is an approach that avoids the need to merge.

    There are two aspects to this - the weights which they released which is the model (GGUF file) which you can download to run locally using CPU or GPU or in the cloud using open-source programs like Ollama.
    The AI model itself is not source - there are no source code present - just weights - a bunch of numbers really.
    The important stuff is the training data and the programs to build, validate and tune the model that generates the weights in the end.
    It is useless to release this as open source unless you have the AI compute hardware at the scale of Meta or OpenAI.

      They can share it under a profitable licensing deal, like Microsoft did with MS Dos, Windows which is on multiple brand PC Conforming Hardware. The same type of system standards specifications will need to be established to port it to other manufacturers. Such as Ford, GM, Toyota, Honda, Hyundai/Kia, Subaru, and the Chinese. It should be internet keyed, so that the software will only enable, when the company conforms to paying the license fee on the vehicle on a monthly basis, with. Default, that if the licensing company fails to keep up on payments due to financial issues or ill will, the software will offer the car owners of the now out of Grace car manufacturer, the right to pick up the authorization license on an individual, monthly or yearly basis, with refunds for unused portions of time, at the individual customer’s choice, if the company that fell out of contract, picks it up again to restart bulk licensing payments. I figure a vehicle would be bulk licensed for a maximum of 8 year window, and if after that, and owner wants to continue individual monthly or yearly licenses, they can pay Tesla directly and the original manufacturer is cut out and all profit goes to Tesla as well as the cost to keep updating the AI with new learning from accumulated experience database learning.

    FSD my favorite topic!
    I'm not an AI geek and I don't play one on TH-cam
    but why in the world AI geeks use an 80-year-old technology - neural nets (NN) - is beyond me
    can I say lazy?
    FSD has an Achilles' heel, NNs.
    All a NN does is find things in a sea of data.
    Neurophysiologist Warren McCulloch and mathematician Walter Pitts published a paper on how neurons might work in 1940.
    Today, NNs are not needed to find anything made by man-those objects ALL now exist in a 3D database that engineers and architects use all day long. That is the way to ID manmade objects, not an NN that requires thousands of pictures of the same object from every angle and every lighting condition.
    This is the reason FSD only recognizes probably 200 objects
    a STOP sign
    a 55 MPH sign
    but it has no idea what a 57 MPH sign is and never even sees it
    FSD has no general purpose sign reader - another reason states/countries will never certify it - thousands of warning and advisory signs FSD ignores since it can't read them.
    A 3D database allows a robot to instantly ID hundreds of things around it in a milisecond since each 3D object can be rendered from any angle and any lighting condition and partially obstructed.
    FSD won't make it to SAE Level-4 autonomous driving since it can't read the word STOP. Just recognize a red octagon with STOP on it.
    Providing open source of something that is a failure isn't worth the time spent uploading it to GitHub or SourceForge. Old old ideas that failed.

    • @jsjs6751
      @jsjs6751 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Curious.
      How exactly would you ID an object from that 3D database in a picture/video, then, Mr. left? Do you have some sort of a working code?

    • @noleftturns
      @noleftturns หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jsjs6751@jsjs6751 I'm a retired engineer - I just post on TH-cam now.
      The AI geeks that use NNs should have spent the time working with the millions of 3D rendered objects that exist today - not the world of 80 years ago when no such database existed and the NN way was the way to ID something.
      If the robot geeks ever want a robot that can navigate the world we humans live in, it must ID hundreds of things a second, and NNs are probably the worst way to do that.
      Someone will find a way to do this - my guess is analog computers based on waves storing the drawings in a holograph is the way to go.
      But for now, Robots that want to inhabit the human world don't exist.
      Apple's robot will use LIDAR to map out the house it will roam around in and it too will need to render many objects a second and it won't use NNs to do it - I have no idea how they will do this.

      @@jsjs6751 So I asked AI (Copilot) this question:
      Q: Tell me how AI works in a digital computer
      AI:
      Artificial Intelligence (AI) in digital computers involves programming systems to learn from data and recognize patterns. Let’s delve into the basics of how AI works:
      Input:
      Data is collected from various sources, including text, audio, and videos.
      The collected data is categorized for processing.
      Processing:
      AI algorithms analyze the data using patterns they’ve learned.
      The system identifies similar patterns in the filtered data.
      Outcomes:
      AI predicts outcomes based on recognized patterns.
      It determines whether specific data matches previous patterns.
      Adjustments:
      When data is considered a “fail,” AI learns from the mistake.
      The algorithm may need adjustments to align with the current data set.
      Assessments:
      AI synthesizes insights from the data to make predictions.
      These predictions inform decisions and tasks1.
      In summary, AI enables computers to learn and solve problems by analyzing large data sets, identifying patterns, and making decisions-almost like a person!
      ==================
