They have an excellent movie theater too with a full bar and restaurant. Also have some new restaurants and taprooms that are great. Jazz fest every summer, which is free, the UFO festival and there's a farmers market. Lots of yard sales as well

It is sooooo not affordable anymore. There's 3 bedrooms for rent with NO yards for 3500! All the houses in my neighborhood are 700k if you want land. I lucked out a few years ago and got 5 acres with a 1990 manufactured for 398k. But my friend with a stick built on 5 acres only half usable as the other half is wetlands, she paid 750k.
Our forest land is being taken over by housing developments. It takes my husband 45 minutes to get to work on base from where we live in yelm...

You are correct! It was worse in the 70's though. The worst school you could send your kids to in Thurston County was Southworth Elementary. Notorious for child abuse, and covered up by former superintendent Glen Nutter, Thurston County, and the worthless local newspaper, ( more like the local gazette) The Olympian, also known as The Daily Zero, which to this day still only prints what Thurston County tells them to print!

I've lived in Yelm since 2003. It's gotten too big and the traffic is AWFUL. STop moving here please, the infrastructure really cannot support any more growth.

All those points were true for years...not any more...HOme prices soaring higher all the time...and not matched by quality. ...putting in so many apt complexes....taking down trees (now Oly and Lacey have more than we do in their developments and we had so much more before. In Yel,m, .they're bringing in developers , ruining our peace, quiet and prices and quality of life and affordability....water polluted and water source such that they should stop developing but won't , and the infrastructure really cannot support any more growth. like another person said.

Now in 2024 the Yelm school district has a levy every couple of months, more taxes that well not enhanced their future or help put a roof over their head or buy healthy food for their tummy!!!!!!!
