I made an electric go Kart about 50 years ago. I took an old Sears & Roebuck 2.5 HP gas engine Kids Go Kart and removed the tired old lawn mower engine. I used a motor I found at a military surplus store where I lived. It was a huge motor and ran on 24 volts. Two Marine batteries in series made the power. I made a motor mount that would hold the electric motor and mount to the old gasoline motor mounting plate. It took me three tries at different drive socket sizes to get the kart to go fairly fast. In fact, it was much faster than the gasoline motor version! The acceleration was neck-breaking!

You should use the ackerman principle for the steering arms - point them toward the centre of the rear axle to allow the turning differential circle radius when turning.

I for one am thoroughly impressed that the two small drill motors had enough torque to move the pilot! I expected them to use like 8 motors haha! I’m curious what they could accomplish with several 18650 lithium cells and a more advanced controller. Even an old GE EV-1 uses like 4 sets of contactors to break the 24v down into 6v increments.
@@arnbon6241 Yes they are geared which is critical, but regardless of gearing, you need a certain amount of power to achieve both acceleration and a half way decent speed. It's impressive that these two motors can deliver it.
You should have added a couple degrees of caster and camber in front (or subtracted, since they should both be negative). The tie rods should not be flat/bar stock, it's easy to bend and may resonant. Round or tube works well. Otherwise, it looks awesome! What are those motors?
No , nothing to limit current apart from the lead batteries own internal resistance and the really low gears. The switches will burn out eventually. I doubt would work for long with lithium cells, too much current for those little switches.
@@rickyroaster Ah I see, a simple solution. I'm trying to build a gokart myself but the motor i'm using is from a treadmill. It operates at 90V and 25A and I've had trouble trying to find a suitable DC PWM controller for those specs.
