You ever seen the video of that orca at SeaWorld that takes the little fish it got from the trainer and tosses it on to the shallow edge of the pool next to a group of birds? Eventually one of the birds goes to swipe the fish and SWOOP, the orca grabs it and drowns it. The orca upgrades its snack from a fish to a fish and a bird. They're smart as shit.

I would never trust them though, even in the wild.
They work in packs (or pods) and kill sharks on sight.
Worst of all, they hunt whales who have young and they stalk them for miles.
The mother whale will valiantly and bravely protect her baby calf, but the killer whales will separate the baby from its mother. Once achieved they drown the baby whale and just eat its tongue (a source of valuable nutrients).
The mother whale then returns to her baby and is stricken by grief.
Personally I would take great pleasure in harpooning the Orcas responsible for this cruel slaughter of an innocent.
However, as we all should know, nature is indifferent.
I will never trust a killer whale: if they're hungry, stressed or scared they will kill you, and they will eat you.

So many Nature haters here. You can't improve Nature. Thinking predation is wrong or imperfect as if that other Nature hater, Walt Disney, had a better vision is just another type of Nature hating. Dolphins and Killer Whales aren't really enemies, because each has perfected the other. And so one might say they are, over the millions of years, long time lovers bringing out the best in one another in their incredible form and myriad other adaptations. Nature has always improved of predation. Death is arguably her greatest invention, WITHOUT WHICH LIFE ITSELF WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE. Critics and Nature haters need to look deeper and more profoundly. This is the best of all worlds. Think deep ecology vs. shallow thinking/ecology.

I believe that isn't that people hate nature. It's that in the natural order of Preditor vs prey, life so often ignores compassion. That's why when we witness compassion in nature, it contrasts natural order. You almost never see it, but, even in this case, it is possible they were in teaching mode, not hunting. They have been known to let their prey live.
