Chansey was the mewtwo killer back in gen 1 days. Bide, minimize, seismic toss, and rest/softboiled depending what you needed. Other than bad luck with blizzard freezes, i managed to knock out so many mewtwos using this set up when i went to tournaments (was for the debut of pokemon stadium).

I say 'champion' btw, because winners of battles were placed in lotteries to see if they go on to the next round since they didn't have much time. Still, was fun to see people look at me funny when chansey came out. :D Everyone else's team usually had mewtwo, their starter, and some other pokemon. (I think it was usually dragonite, not sure).
Starmie is also a Mewtwo killer. Psychic, Hydro Pump, thunderwave, and Recover. Most of the time the Mewtwo will use Thunder or Thunderbolt and Star is tanky enough to allow recover to keep you in the game. By the time the Mewtwo user realizes what's happening, Psychic has lowered their special enough that Hydro Pump can two shot them.
@@VVeremoose I can't believe I forgot about Starmie! Yes, that was also another popular pick, though against Mewtwo, it could have some trouble. Snorlax also put up a good fight at times too.
@@Ruesen my Venusaur and my buddy's Starmie used to have epic showdowns. We didn't know about EVs back then but I'm pretty sure both of them were near perfect. Sleep Powder, Mega Drain, Razorleaf, Growth vs Recover, Psychic, Thunderwave, and Double team. Speed vs Tank. Great battles.
Man, seeing Rest being used on Chansey instead of Softbioled is unexpected. I get the pros to rest in regards to conditions, but at the same time, it's usually better just to heal a bit and not be locked into the chance of taking more damage than you gained back by being asleep too many turns.
@@priestesslucy true but against physical teams you’re better with softboil only real reason for rest is toxic recovery which you don’t really see outside of koga if I remember right
Chansey can use soft boiled (equivelent of recover) Chansey is pretty much one of the only ones that can use that move. Something to remember if you do the run again or one with mew. You get it from the old man with the pond in front of him in Celedon.

I want to say I find your voice very mellow and calming. I do like your call backs to other videos as it feels like invites the view to watch the other videos to see what you talking about and building a narratives. I also like the story you started with butterfree for your first video and how sandshrew has turn in to a mini antagonist.

Really enjoying the tactic of holding onto Water gun and to save Bubblebeam for Blaine/Giovanni, that's a really nice mix up compared to some earlier runs that allows you to hold onto the powerful Ice beam/Thunderbolt combo for the elite four with good support moves. Oh also good choice with having Flareon be what the rival had! For a bit I thought Jolteon would be the biggest threat, but given Chanseys high HP and special but low defense Flareon's high attack value is a much bigger threat through quick attacks then Jolteon's high crit chance.

That's actually interesting. And here's how you make a rom to try it. Use the Pokered DisAssem project so you can set all the Trainer Classes to give 0 Money.

I strongly considered using a Chansey on my team back in the day. Mostly because my friends highly preferenced special attacks. ...But I had that one friend who taught hyperbeam to every Pokémon. So since we didn't specialize against each others' teams, I had to keep him in mind.
I have a future idea for you, I noticed no one has actually done one of these challenges with a Hypno, theres plenty of Drowzee but no love for the evolution, I super enjoy your content
@@Acacius1992 I know, I was just watching FalseSwipeGaming on Hypno a few days ago and it got me thinking why hasn't Hypno been announced with any of these gamers, the stats were bad for a psychic type and the pokedex entries after 3rd and 4th gen down toned it quite a bit, but gen 1 and 2 hypno seemed to have quite the stories, it always was a great pokemon in my books
@@Renrutier gen 1 stats werent that bad. In fact i think they make it the best sabrina counter in the game (good enough atk + body slam and hard walls alakazam). I'm also pretty sure its was the undisputed best pokemon in the tier below the top one (which only had 10 pokemon in it)
@@212mochaman I think I saw that for gen 1 and gen 2 and then from what I watched on hypno is it was because gen 1 hypno had 2 things for it, hypnosis/ dream eater combo and body slam, I'm gonna rewatch the video but it seems gen 2 held it back a bit then gen 3 hypno made it the best support pokemon but apparently hypno had a lot of weaknesses too and then it became forgotten after gen 4(or how it seems it was explained was gen 1 hypno was the best psychic because you didn't need to trade in evolve it like kadabra, gen 2 split its special but it still had good physical moves, gen 3 was weird because it was weak to the weak pokemon but strong against strong pokemon then gen 4 it hit the sinker)
@@Renrutier nah it was just gen 1. Special being one stat meant hypno's special attack and defence were both above 100. Gen 2 gave it a higher special defence but it also gave it dark and steel types to contend with

Just go for it. The first one will suck a lot. While recording stop and start the recording at pivotable moments so that you have many files that are cut are key times. Editting one giant take down is brutal. Write the script as you go after you complete each leg of the game, don't try to improvise the script later. Research how to get good audio. People (including myself) hate bad audio more than anything else, solve the audio problem first.

What about a dratini only run? I did it not too long ago and it was really fun. The toughest fights for me were Brock, Koga, and the silph co. rival fight.
Hey so just a question; I'm aware that ice beam has its benefits over blizzard, but in gen 1 blizzard has 90% accuracy. I just wanted to know if you were aware of this and if you were why you prefer ice beam. It's understandable to want to use a move with 100% accuracy as opposed to 90% though.
have you ever considered a shellder only run ? I just did a run though with a " themed " team for each gym via the universal randomizer and the trainers had a 50% level increase too ( was to make it even more challenging ) quite a epic run that was challenging and might be a hard challenge for you to beat
Before watching, I'm guessing this is going to be SUPER easy because of Chansey's great TM coverage, built-in healing, and hugely defensive stats. It'll be tough before getting Water Gun in Mt. Moon though...oof, Brock will be tough. Let's see! EDIT: Yup, it looks like it was basically just going from TM to TM! lol I think Chansey vs. Brock would actually be harder in R/B because Geodude knows Defense Curl. Or maybe not, since you'd be taking less damage? But definitely more annoying.

Endgame tauros is god tier but it will be a nightmare in the pokemon tower. The only move it could possibly have that hits the ghosts in there is thunderbolt
It would be fun to see. Don’t expect a challenge, though. Tauros is one of the best gen1 Pokémon. None of its stats are bad. It has a high critical hit rate. I’d expect Body Slam to just wreck the entire game, barring ghosts.

Yes but also consider that Soft-Boiled doesn't get rid of things like Paralysis and Poison where Rest does.
Venonat gen 1 run not one person has used it through about 2 years of these runs.

Sandshrew is the antagonist. Worse than Red in Gold/Silver :P
If I remember correctly when a multihit move in Gen 1 crits, each successive hit will crit as well. That explains the triple crit vs Geodude early on

Chansey was a top 5 pokemon in gen 1. More than good it was top tier and literally the only hope of beating mewtwo

Today I found out that a Pokemon with 5 base Defense can tank a physical attack from a Pokemon with 130 base Attack.
