Drawer full of transmitters ✔️. 1st plane a warbird ✔️. Bought aeroscout and thought i had super skills after ✔️ setup all the telemetry only to never look at it ✔️ described me perfectly
Same... Did how ever start with a trash 2-3 channel planes that only had motors or rudder and tail that would bank so hard only way out was to crash... Then first real plane was a wildcat (still have it funny enough but needs a new motor... Wonder why) then bought a real radio. Aka spektrum dx6 second gen and boy was that a mistake. Losing signal at 200 meters is no fun... So now im ganging up with the other erls peeps. But before I found erls i got into drones with frsky that turned out to be just as bad as the spectrum. And ofcourse my whoop i bought it with frsky and found out erls was the future 3 days later.... Fml. We live we learn right? Glad to say im finally on the other side today and in the known and do my best to pass down my knowledge for the next gen pilots so they don't need to toss out money.
1st and second plane were warbirds. Haha. Then I got a piper. My 1st flight about 5 mins in I'm having fun watching it and I do a loop then roll and recover , I had to land as I was shook with the realization, yes I should have bought an overwing trainer 1st. It would have been sooo much cheaper and smarter. I've only upgraded transmitters 4 times.
Yes, AeroScout! I'm an AMA intro instructor and start new students on my AeroScout with a buddy box, of course. When they're ready to solo, I insist they get their own AeroScout, even if they are not excited about it. The only student I've had drop out of RC altogether was one who bought several planes that were beyond his ability - and crashed every single one of them! But I should mention, he backed over one with his truck. Life is like that.
Best advice I’ve ever received, buy more than one plane at a time. You will get the same response from your Wife for two planes that you get for one. Jeff in LA USA
#9 Having telemetry for battery voltage makes a lot of sense in my book. I don't have callouts for voltage though, I just have my radio set up to call out low battery when the voltage drops below a certain amount so I know when it is time to land. I run FrSky radio gear, so pretty much all of the receivers support telemetry out of the box anyway
My favorite moment in flying rc was when I brought an airplane I had built out of a posterboard with a motor that was way more powerful than it needed to be. It flew really nicely until I tried to do a full speed pass and the thing was ripped apart right in front of me and my friend. It was absolutely hilarious and I laugh every time I look at the video
Loved this video, some very good advice. I remember a financial adviser saying, " Buy the cheapest car your ego can live with " I've only just started to dabble with rc planes. I did try a drone a couple of years back, but that is still in the lake near my house. No hobby is cheap. I was stunned to discover the cost of model railroading. So I kept out. Best wishes from Western Australia.
About to get into RC aircraft as an 11 yr/old. Saving for 120 to buy an aeroscout (I know, I’m sorry it’s an aeroscout but it’s something I can afford and it has everything I need) it’s on horizon hobby and it’s 120$. Hoping to fly it soon but I only have like 25 bucks. This video helps
I started with an F-16 64mm EDF with no gyro, it had a few crashes but is still in one piece, after 2-3 months of flying I’ve now learned to do planned stalls, spins, loops, high alpha etc. if your careful, it works.
For a newbie I say spend just enough time on the sim to get the hang of which directions to move the sticks, and then put it away. Go fly a good trainer plane for a season or two, then move onto something a bit more sporty. Once you’re not crashing regularly, and learning aerobatics, get the sim back out again just to practice your maneuvers and learn how to bail out of them when you fail. Then ditch the sim again.
Pls create a funcab ng tutorial for beginners who learned how to crash their easystar/easyglider/aeroscout planes just 1 in 20 takeoffs and fixed without repurchase. 😂 -Control-Binding tutorial and tips -Basic Maneuvers and how to fly slow -FLAPS - Angles, Usage, Aerodynamics 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
When I was teaching students to fly at our local airport I always told them the 3 ate's 1. Aviate (fly the plane FIRST) 2. Navigate (ALWAYS KNOW WHERE YOU ARE AT) 3. Communicate (After you have control of the aircraft and know where you are at then the last thing is use the radios and talk with tower) and lastly ALTITUDE IS INSURANCE when practicing maneuvers at the practice area doing departure stalls or stalls in general always do them with enough altitude for safe recoveries
DUDES!!! I just got back from 2 weeks visiting my sister in Nottingham and only NOW realized you are in the Granite State! If I were a halfway intelligent, sentient being, I would have already noticed this fact and tried to reach out prior to heading out to the Nor-East. As it is, I hope all is well with you guys out there (Wx is WOW level). Keep up the great work gents!
Luckily my wife turns a blind eye to the SMC and random latge boxes. I got lucky in that respect. ❤ Another truly entertaining video guys. Nice job! 👍🏻👍🏻
There's inevitably going to be someone like me who only wants to fly jets. If you're allergic to prop planes, start with the small Freewing 64mm jets because you will crash repeatedly in the beginning and those are the only planes that I found have a chance of surviving.
Hey now ! A DX6e is just fine for floating a foamy around a park within a 100 meter radius. Does close-in 4 channel just fine. However... do toss the 4 AA batteries and get the optional LiPo or whatever batteries. Those AA's go south rather quickly. I've been using the 620 receiver with no issues. Am about to hodge-podge a ZOHD stabilizer into that receiver for elevons on a plane I built. BTW, that ZOHD 250g plane is a total hoot. Loving it. The DX6e works fine with that plane, though there was substantial tweaking done. Those 3 little pots are a trip to adjust. LOL. And everything had to be turned way down setting the transmitter channels. That little 250g is VERY responsive.
I started with the aeroScout 5 years ago. It is a great starter plane as it is and RTF. Now i like to fly the Twin Otter and the Turbo Timber Evolution. Great video and good advice.
I bought two of those little warbirds that are rtf and to be honest with you, they aren’t that bad. They are cheap and come with a very easy gyro. Although they basically fly themselves, they are a good way to get into the hobby and learn. I’ve crashed my p51 from volantex and it’s still flying with the help of super-glue.
Telemetry is nice. Battery status can be important, and deserves some kind of warning. Also, vario for thermaling is worth the beep pollution. I miss the stress on the adrenaline from flying something you actually built rather than assembled. Buy the right stuff up front is good advice. Lots of right stuff is available used from pilots treating themselves to top shelf stuff. Thank you for great videos!
Amazingly true video once again. Yeah my first plane flew an amazing 5 seconds, straight into the ground. And ofcourse the radio and electronics that came with that overpriced Sesna look-alike where also pretty darn useless. But flying on an extreme budget i've had many hours aloft with a cheap-ish Multiplex and a really cheap Hobbyking radio. Both still work great 15 years later. I want to build an RC plane with all the extra plane parts I have. I have leftovers from 707s and DC10s...plus some B52 and F15 stuff lying around. Yes. I worked on those planes. Why does everyone freak out when I say I have extra air plane parts?

Also regarding chargers, don't just look at how many cells it can take, and the current it can output. You have to look at the watts. Many chargers quote a high voltage, and a high current, and they're not exactly lying because they CAN do either of those things. But they are limited in watts, and cannot get anywhere near doing both those things at the same time.
alright you described my first time, i now fly a giant sport cub S2 its red and huge, and it goes pretty fast. i also have a p-51 mini RC that goes super fast, i was able to catch up to a rc F-16
Awesome Video ! Very informative. I just bought a set up with some of the links you recommended. Going to use the DJI air unit & Goggles along with the motion sick head tracker. Was going to use the standard 8 Channel Spektrum receiver, I saw at the end you recommended a fight controller what’s the difference using that instead? Which one should I use?
All great advice! If I could make a suggestion for a review, I love you guys to do a video on the FliteTest Scout XL. I use mine with an FT Aura 5 board as my training platform. I like Ur style brother 😎 very cool words am a beginner at flying and doing well first plane I flew was one I made from scratch normally this owe building and new flyer doesn't mix well but I pulled it off ,now practice with a Bixler ,thank you for the good advice 😀 rc buddy
I have an arrow scout and it's pretty good I like the design it definitely does not look like a drone designed by a toddler to me and I fly in the back of my elementary school
Easily the best RC flight channel on TH-cam. Glad to find you guys. Keep the excellent content coming. One piece of constructive criticism, please reduce your video volume. Yours are always louder than other channels.
Accept that a TRASH BAG is part of your tool set. I used to love taking the broken planes out of the trash and showing up at a later date with some ugly thing that flies great made from a few buddies wrecks. Blue skies from a very old flyer.
also, do repairs, yes, you will have to. Than proceed to building planes from Cardboard or foamboard. Yes, your first ones suck, but you will learn so much about cg, ewd, and whatever there is to a working plane. Plus: Cheap Homemade planes are the ones you use for aircombat. Getting an aileron ripped off in a collision really tests your abilities. But if you manage to keep flying while shouting "hey, im still up here, watch out, im coming for you!" is a blast. Basically its an extension to the "only fly what you can afford" rule, have fun with models you dont mind loosing or needing to repair if this means having silly fun with friends
I actually got one of those little rc warbirds as a first plane and yes it’s not the best i probably should have gotten the carbon cub but I really didn’t wanna spend another $50 and to be fair it’s still a ton of fun and really easy to fly, will be getting some more soon as I have many cars already
02:30 long long ago i bought an fs-i6x so i could try out a simulator. (clearview) because i got a plane. (didn't get into the hobby then because transport was difficult and only had 1 battery) recently i bought an xk k124 heli wich comes with an xk x6 (the knockoff version of that dx9 i am guessing) and ordered an RTF f09-s. both of wich i will be using the rtf transmitter for rather then the fs-16x it's fully computerised aswel. comes with dual rates and expo. throttle curves. pitch curves. channel reversals.. the basics. it's deffinatly a step down from the fs-i6x wich has ALOT more i can tweak. but it's not a bad radio at all. it's ball raised (the sticks are on dual ball bearings). you adjustable tension on the spring plates. adjustable tension on the friction plates. it's genually not bad. but seeing as i have the fs-i6x wich is a cheap 50 dollar radio. i don't see myself ever buying a dx9. and i genually hate the thrustmaster tx16s because (even though i am sure you can turn it off) i get annoyed by a controller telling me what to do (the voice. narrating every switch flip and telling you "you should think about landing") the f09-x is a whole other story. it has all the gps features that the heli comes with so i can't use the fs-i6x otherwise the gps simply won't function. (gets disabled by the on board computer in the helicopter) but it's also fully computerised.
I learned to fly on a Bixler designed glider. No gyro lol and didn’t know about cg or anything. It survived my whole learning process. Now I design random planes to fly lol 😂
How about this advise - Find your local club, introduce yourself and ask if they have instructors that can take you under their wing. Don't buy anything until you have joined a club and linked up with an instructor. These are the two most important steps towards success in this hobby. Not to mention the money and heart ache you will save yourself in the process.
I love the advice about go buy expensive RADIOS that way when you get totally frustrated I can buy your $1000 radio for $50 (yes this happens all the time) the good advice here BUY AN aeroscout... but buy the RTF... learn to fly it... then decide if you want to move up to a better radio
My first plane was a corsair (destroyed it) My second plane was a P-51 (damaged it) My third plane is a Beautifull wooden AT-6 (may god have mercy on my soul)
I am actually just building my planes from foamboard ... I have built 3 so far, and not made it for more then 30 seconds in the air, and all of those are crashed ... I am now building a bigger plane with more begginer rules in mind, but I will probably crash it too ... should I actually buy some basic plane to train so I will not crash it all the time? Or should I try some simulations?
Re: Flying at the ocean Whenever I went, I'd always bring ugly beat-up planes, knowing full well they're gonna end up a sandy, rusty mess after a couple trips. It's more fun when you don't have to worry about it!
People who want to get their first Rc airplane, please listen. Even tho this guy told you not to, it’s fine if you get a warbird as your first plane. I think what he meant was that you should go for a $400 1200mm as your first plane, but some are fine. For example the 400-500mm volantex warbirds are amazing as first planes and you really don’t need an aeroscout
Running the battery until the ESC cuts out, overcharging the battery, buying cheap batteries, buying 1000,000C batteries, charging indoors, not applying a storage charge, not using cell monitoring / VBatt monitoring if available.
Futaba Conquest 4, DuraPlane 40 (taildragger modified), O.S. 40 FP, 15% nitro, 10x6 a.p.c.! Finding out you forgot to slow charge TX battery last night...

I just made the warbird mistake🤦♂️. Lesson learned
Why I flew simple stuff like my trainer for over a year LOL but still learn the hard, lost a beautiful T-28, keep the greasy side donw have fun

I will never get into an rc plane ✈️
Myself neither at 6’2” tall it’s just too large a scale of plane for me to afford! I’ll stick to planes with less than 16” props
Yeah I’m way too large to fit inside of an rc plane.
I bet you are a quad pilot!
I think the CG will be thrown off if I get in one
Just make a really big one where is your faith!

For sure! It’s a bit different for RC. Just fly the plane until it’s crashed if it goes that far. Not really much navigating or communicating to do.

but seeing as i have the fs-i6x wich is a cheap 50 dollar radio. i don't see myself ever buying a dx9. and i genually hate the thrustmaster tx16s because (even though i am sure you can turn it off) i get annoyed by a controller telling me what to do (the voice. narrating every switch flip and telling you "you should think about landing")
the f09-x is a whole other story. it has all the gps features that the heli comes with so i can't use the fs-i6x otherwise the gps simply won't function. (gets disabled by the on board computer in the helicopter)
but it's also fully computerised.
Nose heavy is better than tail heavy birds
?
I started with the aero scout, got a umx pitts and timber now I'm 3d flying the eratix!
I learned to fly on a Bixler designed glider. No gyro lol and didn’t know about cg or anything. It survived my whole learning process. Now I design random planes to fly lol 😂
0:51 the tone on *investment*... I feel that.
I just added this video to our Intro Pilot Program website!
This is so useful and you saved me from buying on but...
Yeeeeea I'm still into it and I'm buying a AIRBUS A320 THIS TIME well maybe...
Just getting in to RC fall 2023....bought a used Futaba 4 ch with receiver for $50. Likely get my $50 back if I decide I need more.
I love this guys outro
Keep flying until the crunching sound stops!!!
How about this advise - Find your local club, introduce yourself and ask if they have instructors that can take you under their wing. Don't buy anything until you have joined a club and linked up with an instructor. These are the two most important steps towards success in this hobby. Not to mention the money and heart ache you will save yourself in the process.
Thanks guys, well done again!
I love the advice about go buy expensive RADIOS that way when you get totally frustrated I can buy your $1000 radio for $50 (yes this happens all the time)
the good advice here BUY AN aeroscout... but buy the RTF... learn to fly it... then decide if you want to move up to a better radio
I'm more of a on land rc guy because i'm not the best with fragile things, but your videos are nice
😊i feel the 3 mistakes high was done away with by the faa's 400 ft rc flight ceiling
#15 @ 8:30 definitely had me laughing! It came apart like paper mache
My first plane was a corsair (destroyed it)
My second plane was a P-51 (damaged it)
My third plane is a Beautifull wooden AT-6 (may god have mercy on my soul)
I am actually just building my planes from foamboard ... I have built 3 so far, and not made it for more then 30 seconds in the air, and all of those are crashed ... I am now building a bigger plane with more begginer rules in mind, but I will probably crash it too ... should I actually buy some basic plane to train so I will not crash it all the time? Or should I try some simulations?
I just got a cheap ish aircraft (small) it doesn't have roll
What do I do if I go upside-down?
Do they have spesific controlers for the f14 jet to manualy move the Wings as for as you want? 😅
Any advice for potential control line fliers?
Re: Flying at the ocean
Whenever I went, I'd always bring ugly beat-up planes, knowing full well they're gonna end up a sandy, rusty mess after a couple trips. It's more fun when you don't have to worry about it!
i had that same issue i bought three planes that were rtf and i am still recovering it
ITS SO EXPENSIVE
You guys’ videos always make me laugh and are super helpful
do you guys still have an original timber?
Great video. I like low and fast Mini warbirds use had to change trim settings from learning to fly.
Good advice. I tried, but I couldn't get into an RC plane. The guy who owned it was really mad too.😊
The dog at the end XD
People who want to get their first Rc airplane, please listen. Even tho this guy told you not to, it’s fine if you get a warbird as your first plane. I think what he meant was that you should go for a $400 1200mm as your first plane, but some are fine. For example the 400-500mm volantex warbirds are amazing as first planes and you really don’t need an aeroscout
Going with radio master is with the grain
Running the battery until the ESC cuts out, overcharging the battery, buying cheap batteries, buying 1000,000C batteries, charging indoors, not applying a storage charge, not using cell monitoring / VBatt monitoring if available.
Just curious, because i might buy one, is the E-flite 1.3m cherokee good for anyone who can fly a 4 channel? I might buy one BNF.
fun carry over to piloting in airplanes- don't stop flying the airplane. fly the airplane into the crash as far as possible
Futaba Conquest 4, DuraPlane 40 (taildragger modified), O.S. 40 FP, 15% nitro, 10x6 a.p.c.! Finding out you forgot to slow charge TX battery last night...
Throwbacks… 😁
