The private life of plants is a fascinating insightful study of natural history. With stop motion and speeded photography we see the ecological life cycle of obscure species the relationship to their natural habitat and each other. Required viewing I have it on VHS a crowning achievement but it needs to be on TH-cam in its entirety .
Nothing in the universe happens by chance. It will be chaotic otherwise. All programmed to behave in certain ways. This effect you see has cause. And that cause has a cause and so on and on regressively !
I was a gardener for a property that had these giant water lollies. They're a pain to do maintenance around. Those spines are lethal. But I do miss wearing waders while in the Lilly pond. It was a cool experience.
These flowers are cantharophily or beetle pollinated. These flowers will use a type of trap, like closing up, to keep the beetle longer. What is so amazing about these flowers, is that the beetle existed 35 million years, before these type of flowers were found on this planet. Which goes to show how new life forms benefitted already existing ones.
What does he say between 1:00 and 1:05? Something like "their huge expanse is kept out stretch them floating on the surface by a lattice of buoyant air float struts"?
so impresive! I have seen theese leaves but would really like to see the 1 foot lily in full bloom!! btw I got a flower video on my channel of a beautiful amaryllis if you want to check it out.
i imagine that the secuestration of the beetles also ensures their safety from predators and makes them more likely to still have pollen on them when they go to the next flower.
Good video! But one important detail left out. The Lily is FEMALE when it is white, so its pollen gets on the beetlr and when it is pink it is MALE when it is opened and the male pollen gets to another white girl flower.

Nature has blown my mind once again. To think that all of this happened just by chance is remarkable.

The universe itself is a flawed mistake.
I can't believe in chance in light of that!

Poor beetle, it got covered in kidnapped and kept overnight getting covered in baby juice. He should call the police D:

The beetle actually benefits from being in the flower because of nectar and protection from predators
