    Wisconsin should be paying you to be the state's ambassador.

    Im amazed at how many contacts did not sign off properly by using their call. That should, according to the rules I learned back in 1989, be the last thing you send at the conclusion of a QSO. Interesting how things have changed. 73zzz

      That does seem to be a common habit, but also these activation videos are edited and the qso may be compressed for content or time.

    Michael, This is W5URT. Thanks for this activation! You and a few others such as K8MRD are my inspiration for future involvement in POTA. Hope to catch you again!

    The name of the sculpture at the beginning of the video is "Rohn needs to send a better instruction manual with their towers." Great video.

      I think it's supposed to represent a towering forest, but also a log jam in the river. It does a really good job at the latter.

    Great video! I’ve been enjoying the upswing of activity on 10 meters and as a fairly new technician, part of this band has given me a chance to hone my hf voice skills until I test for general. BTW, I loved the railroad history. Thanks!

    Hey Michael. Thanks for the P2P. I was at my 2nd park for the day. The video I added this morning will show you the noise I had at my 1st park on 10m - 40m. 10m had S7 to S9 noise.
    Catch you again soon! 73 de Jeff K3JRZ

    Very nice video as as always 😉
    About your Shark Sticks, when setting up the 40, 80 mts the magnetic base is sufficient to ground the antenna or it is necessary to make a clean contact with a metallic part of the car with a ground braid on a screw, for example?
    Many thanks / 73

    I did an activation on 01/18 and not only was 15 on fire, 10 was good enough to work Hawaii with 100W and a 75M (yes, 75M) dipole. Am thinking of building 10M and 17M dipoles and adding them to my regular POTA kit. I've been using EFHW's of late because of their ease of deployment and performance. Think 17M, 15M and yes, 10M.

    Awesome video Michael! I like how you show us some of the park and give a little background history of it too. Those Shark sticks seem to really do the job! 73

      Those Shark Sticks aren't bad. I really like to use them as my winter antenna because they set up so quickly. But I'm always amazed at how well they can perform.

    Well done Michael, great historic info, and qso's. Down here in zl south island, not heard anything on 15m or 10m for years, but 40m into the states is still good. 73

    Hi on the 10m ham stickum having a hard time tuning up my shark 10m. You have a good guess on how much to cut off. I have a ham stick and just haven't got it down below 2. Thanks

      This kinda sounds like a bonding issue maybe? I have a fender mounted 10m shark (full size, not the mini stick) on the truck and have an SWR of 1.02:1 @28.40. I made sure I ran bonding straps all over the place. The cab, the hood, the doors...

      @@KC3UVF Im thinking the wire is going inside to far, I was wondering if it need trimmed and by how much?

    • @KC3UVF
      @KC3UVF ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@milwman1958 Ah. I have heard of issues like that. Mine isn't really close to the actual "coil". I've got 2-3 inches of play yet.
      I don't know that there is a specific number. I'd say unscrew the top and hold it up next to the mast to see how far down the bottom of the stinger reaches and make your decision from that.

    How many watts will that antenna on a magnet mount be able to handle?

    • @KB9VBRAntennas
      @KB9VBRAntennas  ปีที่แล้ว

      The sticks themselves are rated for 250 watts. I don't think I'd use more than 100 watts with a magnet mount, though. At higher power levels I'd want something bonded to the vehicle.
