Pretty cool that you got to sign the wall of fame. I see some names of people I know, and that's really cool!

Its such a neat stop. You see all kinds of familiar names on that wall. Such a historic and special spot. There are few places along the river that so many of us have all been!

There is a steel mill south of Osceola that recycles steel, so many barges come to be unloaded.

That area was pretty busy, I wonder if that was near where I stayed that night...?

A little late but a double layer hammock prevents mosquito bites, most of them anyway. The tiny holes in the fabric don't line up many places so the mozzys can't get to you.

I just bought a new Hennesy with a double layered bottom. I cant wait to give it a try and will be putting it to the test before the summer is up! I only wish I had known before I did the river it would have given me some much needed peace while sleeping

Those bugs sound like cicadas. Here in Florida we are on a first name basis. They can be deafening.

Ha yeah they are loud! Easily the most noise I have slept through. There was a point in the night where they all stop at the same exact time and it was deafeningly silent!

Can you talk more about the danger of wing dams? Churning water looks ominous--is ti cause for concern?

you need to get a mosquito net that goes over the entire hammock. I had to get one for mine as well. only way either that or put a blanket under you

Those short cuts are where the channel has made a new path. The channel will eventually be the shortcut and the old river channel will be come a oxbow. Like I said before the water always finds the least resistance path.

yeah for sure, there is some incredible maps out there of the delta and all of the historical "main flows" the river has had. crazy stuff!

      You are very perceptive!
      Online name vs real name
