    • @IvefoundthetruthonMay

Mike Tensor There's a big difference between him and Lupe. Lupe uses big words to sound intellectual, he portrays himself to be better than he is. Aesop uses even more big words but they're all used for metaphors. Just listen to Atomic Misphylosphy by Lupe, Aesop uses Metaphors every sentence while Lupe is just using big words to sound better and more fascinating than he actually is.

There is something so thoroughly, and yet so subtly, emotional about this song, as if Aesop wrote this song as some kind of expressive catharsis. I won't pretend to understand Aesop's lyrics entirely, but the segment about "red bricks" turning "yellow" speaks so clearly to me; we could all use an easier path, but, in the end, the harsh reality of the world will always come back to haunt you.

I've listened to this song for a numerous amount of years, it was the first song I heard from Aesop, and still one of my favourites. Honestly, of all the years still listening to this song, I still haven't been able to pin point exactly what he means in it, and sometimes I will randomly understand a metaphor in it. I don't really want to go on Rap Genius cause that's too easy. But damn, I have to say I appreciate this music. And the beat is just amazing. The chorous is what resonates with me the most, and I'm sure others as well. "All I ever wanted was to pick apart the day and the pieces back together my way". Don't we all sometimes....This is a piece of Art. Highly intricate and cherished.

This makes me sad =( me and all my friends used to listen to aesop when we were in middle/high school and we were always partying and doing crazy shit. I miss not having to worry about shit I don't want to be worrying about. I miss having them around. Every one changed went there separate ways and now I'm only left with one of those friends out of like 30 people. I wish I was more appreciative of the present moment then. I didn't think things would change so much.

David Camino Shrug. Drake purposefully makes music that's more assesible to the masses. While I like Aesop his music is very very dense. I honestly wish people would stop comparing different rappers who are attempting to do different things with their art. It's not fair to either. It's like an ex that I tried to introduce to Aesop who said he's not that great...he doesn't even have any club bangers. Well that's not the goal of his music.
In conclusion if you're going to judge an artist judge him based on the goals of his art and the quality of his art against what he was trying to do. For a sports analogy that's like comparing Randy Moss and Tom Brady and saying Brady isn't a great football player because he isn't as fast as Moss and can't catch or beat double coverage like Moss. It's aa rediculous statement and comparison....and the only thing the two have in common is they're football players. Same with comparing Aesop and Drake...the only thing they have in common is they're rappers.

Music is what you make of it, if you can't interpret your own meaning from a song then it's not for you.
As much as people like to pick apart lyricism it's something that should resonate with you as you listen and if it doesn't then no big deal. If anyone thinks less of you for your musical tastes they're the asshole because they don't understand how art works.
That goes for everyone from Aesop Rock to Lil Wayne.

Aesop Rock is very ambiguous. This is one of his best songs. My interpretation is that he wants people to wake up and see the light and be on the good side. This is what I like about Aesop ... he’s super abstract.

I love Aesop because even if you don't agree with him (and as a Christian, and a staunch conservative, we disagree quite often), you can still take so much from his music. Different perspectives or not, Aesop puts the words out for you to apply to your own thinking, whatever that may be. He also makes it clear that even if he doesn't agree, he respects all opinions. Raped the replay button! haha

@boywhogames He's saying that our dreams won't come true. In essence, we dream of material things and an easy, comfortable life. But for most people in the world, that will never happen. Life is hard and complex. We want to "pick apart the day and put the pieces back together [our] way" but we can't---it remains an unsolved puzzle. We will not have an easy escape (the lottery), so we will spend our whole lives struggling to figure out this puzzle. Our dreams will not take flight.
