  • Two-part documentary about Zaatari, a refugee camp in Jordan that is home to 80,000 Syrians who have fled the bombs and bullets of the civil war. Originally just a few hundred tents, it now has 24,000 homes, as well as a busy shopping street, hospitals and schools. Anita Rani, Ben Timberlake and Javid Abdelmoneim immerse themselves in the life of the camp, tackling the logistics of providing water in the middle of the desert, meeting some of the children recovering from the injuries of war and finding out how 90,000 loaves of bread are baked every day.

Watching this made me ashamed of myself. These people lost their homes, many of them relatives, their future were erased, and yet they find strength to carry on with their lives! Makes you really think BEFORE complain about our beautiful, comfortable, secure lives.

Syrians are amazing people by nature. The warmth and love in their hearts makes me want to be a better person. They've lost their homes, family members, their jobs, their country. How They've managed to come together in unity and survive within the parameters of a desert is mind blowing. Their resilience to not only survive middle of nowhere but managed to turn a desert into their city. The Lord is looking down and smiling at their hope and strong faith they have in God. God bless each and every one them, always.
Like Jordan, why can't the USA do the same for their refugees? Like Jordan, instead of having 80,000 Syrian refugees in their cities ,they instead gave them an open field of their desert. The US has mikes upon miles of land, why not do what Jordan did? I remember when they were escaping Syria, Jordan put up miles and miles of tenants to house them in the thousands. I remember Syrian famalies crying and in despair, hopeless and in fear for their future. Here they are, they've turned a desert of sand and dust into a home, definite or indefinite,it's their home, their city, with an address, most likely a postal code, too . If they should obtain visas to other countries, they're people I'd welcome with open arms. If they contribute to Jordan's desert, imagine what they'd contribute to other countries. Doctor's, engineers, and antreprenuers, for sure.

Beautiful documentary. When you see the badly conditions of European refugee camps like Moria in Greece, Zaatari seems a better option.
