I have a bunch of those point motors (got mine cheap too, yay trademe!) ....I never even knew they could be mounted directly to the point. I've learnt something new!
Thank you for all the videos you have shared with us over this past year and may I also wish you and your family a Very Merry Christmas and also to my friends who I have lost contact with in New Zealand. I am also lucky that I live in a country that has recorded less than 50 deaths from Covid 19. At the start of it, Thailand closed all of its border crossing and incoming or outgoing flights. Yes, this has resulted in a great deal of people out of work as no tourists and many businesses going bust. It is the less of the two evils. Martin. (Thailand)
Thanks Julian for a great video and being a set of three islands basically and really isolated has been a blessing, so have a peaceful Solstice and keep safe and well
That is a very nifty soldering aid that you have! Anyway, many thanks for all your help and inspiration over this last year and I wish you and your family a very Happy Christmas and New Year. Hoping you all remain safe and thanks for your well wishes to us too!
Great video again Julian.....last day of managed isolation here at Novotel Perth today (Monday), then freedom! Will be looking for a car and property to purchase. Thank you so much for your very helpful videos and your easy to understand narrative. Can't wait for my layout and kit to arrive in a container (should arrive 15th January). Wishing you and your family a very happy and safe Christmas and prosperous New Year! - Stephen
Great progress Julian. It's really nice to see trains running on that fabulous extension, Thank you for another super video. Take care and Merry Christmas from the UK.
Hi Julian. Loved the video. This is probably the clearest explanation of wiring electro frog turnouts that I’ve seen anywhere. This includes Model Railroader and MRVP, so well done. The use of the plastic as a barrier is genius. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours.
Another fantastic video and very pleasing to see the layout extension all going well. Absolutely brilliant to see the Bullied Q1 running 😎👍 Hope you and your family have a very lovely Christmas.. Keep well and keep safe 😊🙏
Hi Julian, another great video. I've always used the extended pin point motors. Seeing your installation of the your points gives another option. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
I wish I had known or thought of the plastic covers 20 snap motors ago. I guess I will try sliding some plastic under each side of the motor. Merry Christmas to you.........
Hi Julian nice video as always that was a very good description on how to lay/wire up electro frog points i have not used those points on my layout but i will give them a go in the future. I would just like to wish you and your family a merry christmas and a happy new year and hope the 2021 is better for everyone. Cheers and all the best. Nicholas.
Hi Julian smart idea for stopping ballast falling through, and really inexpensive. Best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to you and yours Julian.
The best newbies demo of how to wire electro frog points and the neatest too seen on UT. Great idea to use the track supply plug and socket, very methodical. So pleased your Q1 got smoothly up the 40:1 gradient, enjoy running it. You are real diplomat with why NZ cases are low, good on team NZ, others take heed! So happy Xmas to you all and let's hope for a much better and prosperous New Year for all, thank goodness for model railways & very grateful I stumbled across your channel. Stephen
That was really helpful Julian. Mounting the point motors directly onto the underside of the points makes much more sense with the plasticI inserts to keep the ballast and dust out. I hope you and your family have an enjoyable christmas and that 2021 is a better year.
Morning julian, like you said I'll be glad to close the door on 2020 fully agree with what you have said about covid, in lots of ways I think our PM is damed if he does and damed if he doesn't. We are devastated as a family by getting our Hope's up to be allowed to see family and then have it taken away. I do blame the people who are marching to protest against lockdown, they go around with no masks no social distance etc. And this need for crowds to push and shove to get into shops. Anyway enough of this I can only do my bit to keep my family safe you and yours stay safe have a merry Christmas Eddy xx
If you took a tap off that green wire, you could feed it back to the control panel and it could give you an indicator lamp to show the switch orientation on the bits of the layout you can't see.
Enjoyed this video especially the incline (I have a helix at one end and an incline at the other). Merry Christmas to you and your family please remember to stay safe...
Great video , thank for the great tips this year. Look forward to seeing more next year. Have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year. Take care, stay safe, and have fun
Hi Julian, just caught up with the last few videos! 😎 That incline has really taken shape well and I was glad to see how the Q1 scampered up it. Nice wee tutorial on electro frog point wiring. I still have insulfrogs on mine for now (mainly because I just recycled the same points I had, some of which are 40 years old now!) but when I come to do my MPD after we have moved I shall be treating myself 😜 Interesting about NZ’s Covid measures. I think this has been the issue all along. Johnson wasn’t interested in involving anyone else and instead of having the maturity to essentially suspend party politics for the National good, he kept limping from screw up to screw up, over complicating issues and being concerned about his popularity than what was ‘right’ (we are an island and he spent all last year banging on about controlling borders...yet the moment we needed to shut them down they faffed about! 😖). In truth, whilst most people here have been sensible and done what they can, it has been undermined by fools dressed as sages who arbitrarily declare it “all a conspiracy” and just essentially undermine all the sacrifices the rest of us have made. I say ‘sacrifices’ but they aren’t really, yet the way some go on you’d think they were being tortured just because (oh the horror) they can’t go to the pub on a Saturday and (perish the thought) they have to make their own entertainment... Maybe this is why us railway types have hardly noticed much of a change 🤣😂😊? Anyway mate, great video again, and I wish you all the very best for the festive period and the new year. Let’s hope this time next year we are all taking about this firmly in the past tense 👍🍀🎄😃
Happy Christmas to you and yours, a very useful video and exactly what I'll be doing, the plate between motor and point is inspired. I find I am scared of electrofrog points but that little switch makes it look simple. Regards Mike (Sussex UK)
As always Julian you produced another brilliant video it was a joy to watch I’m using the same setup as you regards the points and I picked up some useful tips which I will put into practice okay it’s nearly 4am so I’ve got to go and take my 4 hourly dose of morphine and so my friend I wish you & your family a very Merry Christmas
Hi Julian, would you pop over to the UK and do my n gauge points for me. As ever a lovely neat job. Happy Christmas to you and your family, take care, cheers Julian, John
Nice Video - I haven't done this before so forgive my silly question. Did you actually remove that colourless wire that actually came with the Peco Electro Point and replace it with the green one or did you simply put a green sleeve around the existing wire. I am proposing to use the Peco uni frog which also came with that wire - (for my n scale layout). I acknowledge I have got a lot to learn about these points and little feel a little cautious and apprehensive. Thanks
Thanks Malcolm, I just trimmed the frog wire down a bit. It's quite long and only needs to be enough to solder your green wire to it. I then slide a piece of heat-shrink tube over to protect it and avoid any shorts.
@@StationRoadModelRailway Many Thanks for your advice and a Happy Christmas to you and your family and today it is a very wet day in the UK at the start of Mid Winter. I am certainly looking forward to the warmer days Mid Summer. Cheers Malcolm
Unfortunately not really, there's not a lot of room inside the loco chassis, so the minimal amount you might be able to add would make a great deal of difference.
What wires do you take from the point to your toggle switch to switch the point , you didn’t mention anything about that when wiring the point could you please advise me thank you . Evan

Great T-shirt Julian. Thanks for this interesting video. Cheers Onno.
Another great video. Merry Christmas and all the best for 2021
14:00 where did you purchase your helping hand for soldering? Thanks!
I'm pretty sure I bought it at Jaycar.
Merry Christmas Julian, your layout is coming along so nicely! :-) Joachim
Merry Christmas to all
Merry Christmas.

Is it posable to add some weight to the Q1 33032 for more traction ?
Unfortunately not really, there's not a lot of room inside the loco chassis, so the minimal amount you might be able to add would make a great deal of difference.
Hi, where do you get all your wires and stuff from
The place to go here in NZ is Jaycar. They sell a 6 pack of wire reels which I find ideal for model railway electrics.
Hi Julian, did you do a video of your DIY magnetic adhesion system? If so can you supply a link to it? Happy Christmas
The segment about my DIY magnetic adhesion was in Part 1 of this series, here's the link... th-cam.com/video/tqcpzYeA0iQ/w-d-xo.html
Merry Christmas station road 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
What wires do you take from the point to your toggle switch to switch the point , you didn’t mention anything about that when wiring the point could you please advise me thank you . Evan
Hi Evan, the entire point motor system uses 16/0.2 wiring with one exception for the common return wire from the control panel which is 24/0.2.
Hi mate have a happy new year to you and your family mate stay safe and well mate goodbye for now clive
