The extra hole in the engine tin is for the thinner flex pipe that comes from the end of the old style oil bath air cleaner ( not fitted to your engine , yours is the after market paper filter ) 👍🏻

The “tin panel” work around a VW’s engine, is both one of the most difficult to remove and reinstall properly(including the seals etc) and it’s also extremely important to do correctly because it drastically affects the operation of the engine.
PS. You really need to replace that engine bay flat rear seal all the way around. The short piece you put in won’t work properly.
PPS. The hole in the rear engine tin you put the pipe plug in, that’s for the original air cleaner box tubing. The orig air box was an oil bath air filter, and a vent tube from that box vents down through that hole in the tin, for warm air.
The tins control the engines operating temperatures, both engine cooling & engine heat warm air, directing and send both to all the places they need to be. As I said it’s critical these and their seals are installed correctly, or it’ll cause all kinds of issues. Just fyi… 🙂👍

cool video. What size are the tires? I want some for mine. Also lug bolts are torqued to 75ft lbs per manual i believe. The third hole is a preheat hose which would come off the factory muffler and into the factory air cleaner. Pulling the motor only takes a couple hours at most for any amateur!

Good thing you didn’t replace the steering coupler with the urethane one, they can break. Nick named the circle of death. Go with a stock one, rag joint.

A late comment, but maybe someone will find it useful? The hole in the tin is for preheated air to the original air cleaner. cover that hole or you'll overheat & also because this is an offroadie type car, can get sand all up in the pulleys, maybe throw a belt, maybe damage the pulley, maybe clog the air cleaner more often, maybe getting dirt dust sand where you don't want it. the tin should have no holes.

The reason why it didnt have hose clamps on the fuel line is because they didn't come with any! the original braided german fuel line fits tight enough to not need them for normal on road use. That being said you definitely are not hurting anything by adding them. Nice 64, I daily drive a 63 named Heinrich. Keep up the good work! these old vws will run forever if you treat them right.

The hole you filled on the breast plate would of been a hole for a vent hose off of the oil bath air cleaner which was what came on the motor when new.

You might as well just cut and turn the front and adjust the spring plates on the torsion bars in the rear you can get 3 inches easily. None of which would cost you more than maybe new shocks. Hit a swap meet and you can get fiberglass cheap. I got a 1 piece front end for 100 and hi line race rears fir 25 bucks. Both needed a little repair but a complete baja body for under 200 bucks is not bad.

First of all, you guys are very skilled and knowledgeable for as young as you are. You got a Headstart on everyone your age. the future looks bright!
A forehead mount. A clamp mount. And a tripod.
It’s not so much what kind of mounts as when you use them.
Personally I want to see you doing every step of the work. Not just talking about it and then cutting out for the actual work and then coming back to more talking. Don’t get me wrong, your explanations are great. But I want to see more action.
And you don’t need to edit out times where you struggle or fumble with tools. Because we all do that......
And use time lapse or speed up your video during editing when appropriate.
In most cases you’ll need to stop work, reposition your camera to get the optimum angle and then be careful not to block our view of work you’re doing with your hand, head or body.
    Great work. Keep it up!
