Bro with the amount of money I have spent on the Sims 4 alone, not to mention every other Sims game (I have owned *every* Sims game on PC and Consoles), I did not spend a thousand dollars to get Ads in my game.

It reminds me of when cable television started showing ads. Everyone complained that we were already paying for the service, and how screwed up it was to show ads on top of it. I'm not sure about AI, it's really only as smart as the dumbest person whose contributed, and considering they are learning on big forums like reddit, um... i don't have much hope for intelligence. I was using Bard/Gemini, Google's AI, about two years ago and i had to stop using it maybe 6 months ago. It's just stupid now.

I remember back in 2006 when EA decided they would put ads into the games. Battlefield was the first game to be plagued with it.
Recently American Truck Simulator started doing ads for an actual trucking company but they are on the billboards in the game.
They try calling it “thoughtful implementation” but we know what it really is.
EA’s company's net income surged by 58.7% just this year, so I’m not sure why they would take about putting ads in more games at this point besides greed.

i really want to say the idea that the ad revenue going towards making better games is optimistic, but video games evolved into loot box money printing machines, games have turned into promises of something better just to languish in its mediocre release with maybe a game breaking bug or two getting fixed so they can pretend they are still working on it, its just naive to think a corporation like EA wouldn't just pocket the ad revenue, alongside the hundreds of dollars they are making off stuff packs. think of how much money people have already dumped into games like the sims 4, hell even the sims 3, and how many well known bugs are STILL in the game that are only getting worse with each release. weddings in S4 released broken and they still have not been fixed. EA is riding on the good will from their older games to make sure their player base will give them more money when they release another broken shell of a game to literally buy stuff packs and dlc to make it fun.

EA isn't hurting for money. They have plenty to support the development of their games, and the Sims 4 is a perfect example of just how deep their greed goes at the EXPENSE of the development of the game and the end user experience. Their PR statement is a lie that as per usual, presumes their consumer base is comprised of absolute idiots. These ads they put on startup screen, the ads they intend to inject, and the use of AI to replace actual human beings has one purpose and one purpose only: increasing quarterly profit margins for shareholders and reduce overhead costs to further amplify those pocketed profits. That money doesn't go to development. It goes to its shareholders. It's their executive bonuses. They are literally using AI to replace the need for salaried employees, and it will NOT provide any quality content development. If it does, given the state of AI in 2024, then that alone should speak to the absolute dogshit quality EA has pushed into "normalcy" and demonstrate just how LOW the bar of expectations is with the consumer base. EA is run by nothing more than corporate greed and it's visible in every corner of the company. The sims 4 is already a broken mess with expansion packs that have been on the market for 6+ YEARS and are STILL plagued by broken content at their launch that has never and will never be fixed. They have over monetized the everlivinf fuck out of the game, stripping base game elements away and selling them as overpriced DLC, game packs, and stuff packs because micro transactions don't register in the brain like higher purchases do, and people keep buying expansion packs at launch despite knowing it's going to be a mess.
So no, this will not benefit their games, or development. It will degrade the user experience further, it will remove salaried employees who actually care and want to make good games for gamers, and it reduces the number of people on board who can fix existing content and push back against EA in any capacity.
Personally I look forward to the day this company finally caves in on itself, but this won't happen so long as gamers keep paying for shit at launch, that is broken, riddled with predatory cash crabs and micro transactions, and lacks any soul or substance. While I blame EA for the direction this business has gone, part of that responsibility does ultimately lay in the hands of the people enabling them: the consumers. We choose whether or not we validate their cost cutting cash grabbing bullshit, and if consumers weren't validating their corporate strategy, we wouldn't see the entire fucking industry in this state of decay.
I won't be buying the sims 5 and I stopped buying any dlc ages ago, and only ever do so on steam lunar sales. I also stopped buying EA games a long time ago. Studios like Larian shouldn't be a rarity I 2024. There used to be many like them, but EA and it's ilk like Activision and etc have destroyed once beloved studios like Bioware for shoddy corporate practices and these days, my trust in game development is virtually nonexistent, save for a VERY few developers I still trust (Larian, Guerilla, that's basically).

And here's the reason why I am not interested in Project René at all. That game with be filled to the brim with ads and micro transactions. The Sims 4, is my very last The Sims game. I am not touching Sims 5, unless the basegame is actually free to play. However, I will not spend one dime on extra stuff for it. Not a dime. Especially if it's loaded with ads and microtransactions. If I wanted that kind of games, I would play games on my phone. I'm not THAT pathetic.

Yeah I’m deleting sims 4 if the ads come. We already have the shopping cart.
