The Sims three is by far and away my favorite Sims game as well. Don't get me wrong, the emotional states, UI, and improved build mode is much nicer in TS4, but as far as overall gameplay it doesn't come close to TS3.
I actually love Sims 2!!! It is my fav game. My computer can handle it without much lag and I can get into PLAYING without much trouble. Sims 2 & 3 are both far better games then 4. I finally downloaded Sims 4 (base, free only) to experiment (refused to buy it at release) and within 5 minutes of getting my new sim family into their base starter home my toddler was clipping through his dad. I have never had a sims game have issues that fast.
@@bull_technologyI find the ‘emotions’ of Sims 4 the least emotional sims system ever. Like in Sim 2 and 3 I felt like the reactions they had to situations based on their assigned personaity told far more of a story about emotion then the blatant labeled ‘emotions’ of Sims 4.
I like to play Sims 1 when I'm having severe mental breakdowns because it reminds me that life could be so much more stressful, all 7 days are even more identical and a week goes by in like 2 hours or less.
The worst part is how unplayable this game is without mods, and how much more the mods actually add to the game and how much better they are than anything that comes out.
It is not unplayable it is just better with modifications. The vanilla game isn't unplayable just empty you can still play it Vanilla just fine you heathen. We are very lucky that The Sims 4 vanilla game works in a highly decent state. Compared to other games outside of the genre like cyberpunk 2077 or the saints row reboot. On top of that the Sims 3 is unplayable because it kills your PC. At least the Sims 4 has a v-sync
@@deaconfoster5255 man cut the coping lmao, none of what you’re saying is its just sad, comparing Sims to CP2077 (which is better now vs its release unlike sims4) and Saints row which went against all the franchise stood for with the argument being “it’s not that bad” compared to presumed trash is VERY weak
It's even more disgusting when you look at HOW LITTLE content there even is in their DLCs. The basegame plus all DLC is only just 50GB. Just like complete games out there that don't cost 10000$
Exactly! I have several AAA titles that I was able to purchase on sale for under $20, and I have gotten hundreds of hours of gameplay out of those games. ...Not TS4... One can spend over $1000 and get very little in return.
I just started playing a game that is 120gb and cost $90... so more expensive than base game sims, but so much more in it and I am only like 5% through it, if that. I am also playing Tears of the Kingdom, which was also $90, but will probably end up getting 600 hours out of it. And I have put hundreds of hours into Stardew Valley which I got for $20. Just to name a few complete games that even when combined I got for less than all TS4 content but have or will get literally thousands of hours out of.
By far the biggest disappointment of sims 4 is the loading screens and small maps. It makes you feel like you are back playing sims 1 again or something. Even though sims 1 is way better than sims 4.
Same. No matter how much I tried, I could not get into the restrictive and bare bones mechanics of 4 after being able to plop your lot literally anywhere and freely run around town in Sims3
@@Lumberjack_king Kinda hard when cities in America are designed to make traveling anywhere on foot impractical to downright hostile. And apartments or houses that are in that sweet spot cost a fortune to rent.
It kinda predicted the future. Lots of people don't care to own a legal car anymore and there are plenty of freaks who are locked in their room for days ... then 2020 happened and yeah, you're welcome now it's all just that .... Edit: actually many people in the west ended up homeless or de-d, so yeah there is that. TS4 ironically also had an crazy number of ways to k-ll your sims and the chance % is also too high. So yeah another thing that kinda lines up with USA ...
This is what makes me so frustrated. I’m super thankful in theory that they’re still making new content BUT not when it comes at the cost of them just churning it out without caring that the game is close to unplayable because of all the bugs from previous packs. And so many people just complain but still buy the new stuff upon release. Still disgusting that they don’t care to fix the things that need fixing either way, though. Like that shouldn’t even have to be on the customer. A product shouldn’t be released for sale if it’ll break your game unless you google it first to see if it works okay yet, and they do that time and time again.
Also, instead of working on fixing the obvious stuff they do stupid things like “fix buildmode” for console users-the one of very few things I would say I’ve NEVER had any issues with on console. That “update” made buildmode almost impossible to use for MONTHS and they couldn’t even be bothered to give players an update on its status or at least say they’re working on fixing it. If you put out an update and people give feedback that it’s ruined basically the whole feature, they should roll back the update until they’ve got it fixed for real. Instead they just left people who have paid for this game hanging. Again, it wasn’t even something most people have ever even complained about and they still put in all that time (apparently) and resources into that instead of the obvious and glaring issues. Absolutely ridiculous and there’s no excuse for it anymore.
The publisher of Cities Skylines which basically replaced Sim City is working on a Sims like alternative, Life by You, that is supposed to go into early access soon. The most exciting thing is Rod Humble is leading the studio making it, he was behind the Sims 2 and 3.
Let's not forget that EA made Sims 2 impossible to get (legitimately) solely because more people were asking for Sims 2 than there were buying Sims 4 dlcs. I expect the same with Sims 3 eventually
Could just pirate the game, if theirs no legitimate way to get the game, its morally ok to pirate it. Now ofc the law would disagree, but crack downs on people pirating the game are very rare, and the biggest thing you'll ever probably get is a letter or email from your ISP saying stop. (Which you should always use encrypted DNS and or a VPN to prevent this) Or you can just buy the sims 3, from my experience its basically the sims 2 but more refined, Now i've only played the sims 2 on wii so I might be biased.
@@Metroid250 You better never uninstall it because that's what I was mentioning. Maxis was giving it away for free all the way up until 2016 or 2018 (I forget exactly) but after EA disbanded the majority of Maxis and absorbed what was left into EA Mobile they stopped giving it away altogether, so now your only two options are pirating or ebay/pawn shops
@ferret4111 Well yes, Im mostly talking about the United states and the majority of the world. If you live in a place like russia you wont ever get busted.
The most DISGUSTING part is that people paid $1,094.33 for a game that is BROKEN, LAGS and has a SHOCKING amount of bugs that have been around for years. They continue to sell DLC that DO NOT WORK!!! And sadly people (including me) keep buying them because no alternative life simulation games exist right now. EA disgust me, they are a vile and money-hungry company that don’t care about players one bit.
You could also just keep playing either the Sims 2 or the Sims 3 no? That's what I'm doing and I'm still far from having explored all the possibilities!
I reaaaally wanna see the guys in power at EA. From ruining The Sims franchise to cancelling Alice: Asylum, there’s definitely some incredibly greedy b*stards hiding in the clockworks.
10 years ago no company would dare consider going up against EA to make a Sims competitor. Now they're all lining up. Paradox and the likes smell blood and know The Sims is finished. It's sad, but the spirit of Maxis within EA died a long time ago and the true successor to that spirit is probably at another company.
Paradox helped open the flood gates imo. Cities Skylines has replaced Sim City for me. I'm hoping some of these other companies do the same for pretty much anything EA does. I only play EA games when they're free or included with Game Pass. I'll never spend another dime on an EA franchise, on purpose. lol
@@crazytastie Same, I've been wishing they'd step into The Sims space for years now. I don't mind DLC for games like this but the price has to reflect the quality.
I'd rather not have Paradox touch them either. In some ways, Paradox is just as bad when it comes to egregious DLC practices, and while Skylines has largely replaced Sim City, it still has some very major issues, such as being more of a traffic management game then a true city management sim al la Sim City 4, while also selling the complete experience for around half a grand. Personally, I'll just stick to the older games and wash my hands of the whole situation rather then hope for a marginally better product that is just as DLC ridden.
I tried sim4 for a bit when it was free, it felt dystopian, sims3 is aspirational, like you can make a mad life and have you sims live out the wildest time you want, sims4 felt like the actual daily grind of life- stressed out and trying to fit too many things into the day work, sleep, eat, work out, socialise, relax . . . I play toi escape reality, not duplicate it!
So fucking true ! I had a bit of midlife and identity crisis during covid and decided to play sims 4 I COULDNT DEAL with my sim working dream job and being miserable xD like bitch im trying so hard to make you happy and you're not and i just got triggered by my own sims unhappiness and felt worse. Totally stopped playing it. Even mods didnt make it better....
The worst part for me is how with more packs there are more bugs that they never fix. And the bugs become more gamebreaking. They don’t even care enough about their customer base to fix bugs
I havent played for a while. But i'm pretty sure they havent fix the bug which will 90% burn your house when someone with low cooking skill is cooking.
City Living fully broke the game when it came out, it usually happened on higher-end machines which made it funnier, it TOOK YEARS for it to be "fixed".
High school years and wedding stories are probably the worst offenders of this as of now,for a pack whose main focus is weddings, the content doesn't work most of the time, the list of glitches and bugs this pack has is unbelievable, and in my save file for high school years the option to study for exams never showed up and all of my sims continued to fail high school, the option to create a prom board also didn't work properly and my sims kept staring at the ground instead of actually doing something, having the prom night every week is also hella goofy and strangely some of my sims who have graduated occasionally still get invited to prom, the graduation ceremony also doesn't work half the time and one of my sims got stuck in an endless loop of going to the graduation ceremony, standing around,no body doing anything, going home, rence and repeat
Let's not forget that it took EA 5 years to put the firemen; when the game was relased, they put in the game the fire alarm without the firemen to rescue you
I don't think I've EVER been rescued by actual firemen in the Sims 4... I usually just get a notification from a fireman to, "Be more careful next time," after the fire has been put out. I've never had an actual sim come to my lot to put the fire out for me.
@@audreybourgeois4626 me neither I assume you have to just let it burn for a while and then they'll show up or maybe they still aren't in the game. Either way I would not be shocked.
EA has always hated Maxis.. My EA manager always voiced his distain for every sims build he had to test, and tried to make the rest of his staff feel the same way, got in trouble with HR for calling Maxis a bunch of British cigarettes. . only using a bad word instead of british cigarettes.. I got fired for reporting him a third time
Pft yeah no, there are still people(like myself) who enjoy playing the sims 4. Honestly it’s unfair that everyone wants this game to die, maybe think about EVERYONE who plays that actually enjoys it.
Competition is on the way. Paralives seems promising and is very transparent about development. The Sims needs to step their game up or it'll end up like Sims city...
Indeed indeed. Some of the more recent $40 expansion packs have been an utter joke in this regard, and some of the smaller packs seem lazily slapped together or unfinished entirely.
@@bull_technology I really want to challenge your use of 'lazy' applied to the actual making/designing/programming of the packs. I think that when talking about this subject, it's important to make a distinction between EA as a business - and the people responsible for operating the business aspect of a games publisher the likes of EA - vs the people who get alloted a budget/salary *from* EA to actually do the creative work of producing the content. I say this because, weirdly I think 'lazy devs' has become almost like... a dogwhistle? Within the sims community, which is used to kind of just, emotively complain, and not think at all about why these problems might have arisen in the first place. Which ime, tends to lead to a kind of, eliding of 'devs who are paid a salary to make game things' and 'EA the company with heavily profit-driven corporate practices.' I don't think that's all to great of a thing to encourage, even if for no other reason than if we just go 'yeah, lazy devs, lazy EA' interchangeably, or signal that, then there's not really gonna be a lot of the fandom holding the *company* and its practices, specifically, accountable.
The 'Late Night' expansion in Sims3 (for 20$) had: a new world, apartment buildings (and the option to create them!), clubs, film-related careers, celebrities and vampires. The Sims 4 has similar content but spread out over 4 packs (for 140$).
I'm 28, grew up with the SIms, and am totally in agreement with you on this. The DLCs are absolutely disgusting, espcially as a Canadian (expansions are like $60.00 here) - it seems EA has gotten into the habit of adding a few key features into each one so that the player feels FOMO if they don't buy it. I stopped buying expansions after Cottage Living and haven't bought a game pack since Jungle Adventure. Kits are insulting - let's get rid of Stuff Packs and charge you almost the same price, and make a million of them so it still comes out to $100 to buy them all? No thanks! I can definitely see them going the monthly subscription route. Pay $89.99 for the Sims 5 and then have to pay an additional $14.99/month to play it. Won't be me.
I'm waiting for either Life By You or Paralives to release. After The Sims 4 I don't trust EA and Maxis anymore. Trust me, if they release TS5 as a free-to-play game, it will have micro-transactions. There is no way EA will just give a game free away at the goodness of their hearts. "Free-to-play" looool more like Play now microtransactions later. Watch out for that limited $2 hair style.
It will likely be microtransactions with a vague shell of a game hidden amongst them. Decorating a Sims home with anything more than the absolute basics will probably cost us real money. Most outfits and accessories will probably cost us real money. If they can, they will probably charge us real money for Sims household utility bills. And they will still have the expensive DLC model alongside it all so that we have to spend another $50 just to get that single standard hairstyle that should've been in the base game ☹.
Sims 2 still my favorite also. I play it all the time. I tried Sims 3 just never can stay with it for long and Sims 4 has never done anything to the game that has made me say I must have this.
@@asdfg9659 ts2 natively supports widescreen and can even go up to 4k (although you'll probably need to use magpie to make the ui scale properly,) and there are mods that can make the ui much better on fullscreen by chris hatch. i would also recommend checking out clean ui:]
@@asdfg9659 You can fix that with graphics rules maker! I'd recommend looking up some tutorials on how to run Sims 2 in modern computers + some mods to prevent corruption. It might look like too much work, but trust me, it's worth it to play Sims 2.
Another terrible thing is if you bought the game through Origin, you were forced to 'upgrade' to the EA store and you CANNOT play games you own, even on disk, without an internet connection.
Yes, EA is the fucking worst!! It always gives me an error when I open the app and makes me restart it. Like how is there a problem with the app every time?
I played the sims 4 base game when it became free and got bored of it. I later downloaded the sims 2 Ultimate Collection and was SHOCKED that the game was less laggy, buggy and had FAR better routing than 4. In the sims 4, my sims would spend hours just smiling at the ceiling and objects needed to be spaced far apart to allow routing. In the sims 2, my sims do so much autonomously and routing is amazing (except for stairs) so I can place objects closer to each other, which looks so much more realistic.
The sims really do just act like idiots in TS4. The AI is just abysmal. In that regard, the older Sims games do run rings around TS4… but they really shouldn’t. The Sims 2 is a terrific game though
The best part is when you purchase almost every Sims 4 expansion and EA disables your account, refuses to tell you why, denies every attempt at appeal, then tells you to stop contacting them!
They deleted my cd key for Battlefield Bad Company 2 that I own in ORIGIN and asked me to gave them a capture of an email showing the purchase that I did more than 10 years ago. When I couldn't find It(probable didn't use even the same email) and even when the game is owned in my account they just said "sorry, we aren't going to help you".
@@spacewargamer4181yeah, tech support of ea and ubisoft companies is just awful and situations like this is the reason i try to not buy at all anything from them. They just couldn't care less about their audience. At least you can actually have a reply from ea, with ubisoft starts with "how you even form a question for. a tech support on that site?" And seriously? Change of terms and agreements to the way they can literally delete any of your purchased games or your entire account if you just not played for a few years? That is not just disgusting, that's illegal! You own this stuff, you payed for it!
They are horrible.. and the account is also linked to my Playstation account and blocks me from playing all the EA games I have accumulated over the years. I've tried so many times to appeal it that it isnt even worth supporting their games anymore. I cannot tell you how much money ive spent on EA games since the early 2000s.
I still play the sims 3 to this day, and I'm still surprised by all the little details and surprises the game has! 10+ years and I'm still descovering so much more fun stuff, like did you know that if you have gnomes, the ones that appear on your lot all of the sudden, they grow old, they can even have other gnomes kids? and after a while, they die and a little grave will appear. It's amazing.
Exactly! It's so heartwarming to see who the makers of the previous games really seemed to enjoy and love what they did! When I visit sims 2 or 3 after playing 4 I almost tear up how much better and wholesome they are, how the makers really seemed to want to make a good game
I wouldn't say that the day of Sims 2 and Sims 3 are long gone. Many people still play these games, myself included. Sims 2 will celebrate its 19th birthday soon and people still create custom content, mods and bug fixes even after official support for Sims 2 ended long ago. Which proves just how iconic of a game Sims 2 is. Imagine having such dedicated fanbase 19 years later.
@@ProfetutiAR sims 3 is my favorite except for indeed part of the aesthetics, but I don't play it anymore because it's such a ridiculously inefficiently running game. Even when I throw out all the CC and gameplay mods (which is half the fun imo) it just doesn't run smoothly on my modern mid-range pc. I definitely consider going back to sims 2 because it's such a nostalgia-fest imo ;)
i only played sims3, the pure joy i get from creating towns, new citizens, and of course SUPERNATURAL and ACTUALLY immortal creatures is insane. nothing will ever top this game, its just the way of escapism that everyone should try
i do say this on any sims 4/sims 5 video i see. EA did destroy the sims franchise. However, if they think they've gotten away with these shenanigans forever, they sure haven't. Because I truly believe that they caused a butterfly effect with their mishap, causing other companies to step in and work on better human simulation games. First and foremost, not a human sim, but Planet Zoo is an amazing zoo simulator that came on the fall of the Zoo Tycoon games. And it proves that even if a franchise seems dead, someone can bring it back to life. Look at games in development right now that WILL be an exact competition for the sims franchise: life by you and paralives. They won't be able to pull their stunts they've pulled with Sims 4 once these games come out and shed light to how these games need to be made, what we look for as consumers, and what we're willing to pay for. And if these other life sims have weather and pets right off the bat, EA can enjoy the loss because consumers won't want to pay for a base simulation game that doesn't have either when indie devs will be making games that do. The whole "play with life together" they were originally planning in sims 4 and will probably try to add to sims 5 won't help them. They need to listen to their consumers and quit cash cowing everything. Or Sims 5 will be the last sims to ever be made.
Very well summed up and articulated. This was, in essence, my point of the video. Other games will pick up for the Sims left off and deliver features that consumers expect. You list some excellent example is here, but the example that's most salient to me is Cities Skylines-which was a better SimCity than SimCity. I do think that people will leave the Sims franchise when competitive games arise. The only reason they can get away with his shenanigans now is because there isn't a fully fledged competitor to them in this game space.
Yup history repeats itself and EA will never learn until someone else swoops in and does what they continuously refuse to do. And I can’t wait. As someone who has played EA games for a long time, they simply don’t care because people still buy their stuff
Not to mention, Life By You is entering early access later this year. Which means for a year plus following that, they're gonna be adding free additions to the game based on community feedback until they feel the base game is complete.
The sims team needs to realize that at this point in the franchise certain aspects of gameplay are expected. Seasons.. should be base game by default at this point. Pets.. should be base game. City/ apartment living.. I could go on. They should release a fully inclusive, developed game and sell world packs that add lore and interest to the game. (Not rabbit hole lore). They should focus their energy in giving us something that we haven’t seen 3 or 4 times over at this point. They can only REPEAT the same pattern and business strategy for so long before enough is finally enough. It’s 2023, don’t try to sell me a pack I’ve already bought 4 times at this point. Respectfully.
I purchesed the collectors edition of The Sims 4 back in July 2014, I don't remember how much I paid, but my 12 year old self saved up the entire cash I got on Christmas, Easter Bunny and my birthday to buy it, I played 2 days got bored and came back to The Sims 2 - I've been playing The Sims 2 forpast 16 years everyweek on Saturdays to relax so in my book The Sims 4 was a let down and I am happy that I didn't purchase any of TS4 DLC's
This was me 😭 I was a die hard sims 3 fan starting at 11 and then ts4 came out when I was 14 and I saved up from babysitting so I could get the collectors edition. I had so much faith and love for the franchise, I just wish I wasn’t so blind for as long as I was. I held out hope for so long because it was my therapy. I joke that now it’s a reason for me to go to therapy lol. Now I only play ts3 unless I’m creating personas for work, materializing book characters or re-arranging my home, because ts4 can be handy for things like that at least. Don’t want all of that money to go completely to waste.
Sims 2 and Sims 3 Let's Plays are back now in trend... these two are timeless...you can even play it simultaneously because it feels like these two are not in the same franchise... so unique from one another....
I used to spend hours on sims 2 and sims 3 without even knowing the passage of time because of how fun they were. Not with sims 4, I can barely play an hour before getting bored
My prime “childhood sims memory” was my mom buying me the sims2, deciding it was too “inappropriate” and then bought me the MySims games instead of 😂 best part was I caught her playing sims2 multiple times, so I guess at least someone got some use out of it
not to mention the absolute bugginess of TS4... sims often do not do what you tell them to, freeze all the time, walk through objects and other sims, etc. on a fresh install, no DLC or mods, i created my first family and, already, a sim bugged out and had to be deleted. that never happens in any other sims game and goes to show that the priorities do not lie with functionality nor the player's enjoyment
Absolutely correct. I’ve had plenty of issues with the Sims 4 que not functioning correctly, all sorts of graphical issues, sims getting stuck and other bugginess also. The game also seems to chug after quite a bit of gameplay. I’ve noticed significant frame rate dips after about 30 hours of gameplay in a single save game. So yes, I would definitely add this to the laundry list of issues with the Sims 4.
This is clearly not a problem unique to my computer. I have a custom built 1700X system with a 2060 and 16 gigs of RAM. My machine can run any game at 1080P and at 60 frames per second. LGR in his great review documents frame loss as well after extended play: th-cam.com/video/ohwbklm3w_E/w-d-xo.html
I finally decided to try TS4 because I have a computer above the graphical requirements now. Downloaded free base game, made a family. My toddler was clipping through his dad like five minutes after I moved the family in. And they dare try selling me EXPANSIONS out the gate!
After nearly a decade the game still feels incomplete and yes it has stuff to show but half of what it does have feels half baked or half assed which Is a shame because it feels like it does not need to be this way.
@@bull_technology you are not wrong and the sims 1 2 and 3 have shown it did not need to be this way. But the devs have apparently complained that was the limit of what the franchise could reach at the time. And people point out sims 3 is an unplayable game and that something like what the sims 3 did should have been attempted as again it was just unplayable apparently 🙄
The feature I miss most from the TS3 to TS4 crossover is the item, clothing, and hair color customization. Hair color is probably the worst since every time I make a character I have to deal with their hair not being the right shade, but I used to love the ability to adjust the colors of clothing and items. It made it easy to create unique and coherent outfits and home décor. With TS4, I often just take the default colors of objects or clothing because it's just not worth trying to find a combination of colors that fit together given the limited options each one has.
The damn counters that are of the same type and the "same colour" don't even match! When you compare the top and bottom cabinets they're often not the same colour T-T
Don't worry, soon EA will release Sims 4: Hair Time which will allow you to color your hair! It also adds two hairstyles and lets you talk to other Sims about your hair! It also adds a "wash hair" feature to the shower. All for the amazing price of... $39.99!
They did. The sims in that game had more detail to their animations when interacting, and they had more reactions to other sims depending on relationship and personality. Sims 3 cut out tons of these.
Sims 2 on the console (Xbox, etc) was the best! I personally like the console sims better than the pc versions, bc the console versions usually have a storylines.
@majorgear1021 in my personal opinion most definitely! Of course the graphics are a bit outdated and there is no open world like Sims 3 but Sims 2 was fantastic. You can even see life memories of the Sims so there is a story to them in a way. I used to mod them a lot and even film episodes like a TV show and music videos lol
Another thing that is absolutely disgusting is how we've had glitches since the beginning of the game, that haven't been fixed. Crops revert to piles of dirt overnight, windows in the Vampires world are broken for many people (glass not showing up), simulation lag is getting worse and worse whether you play with mods or not. Even Get to Work is broken, their very first pack. Dine out is broken for many. Wedding Stories, a relatively new but not really pack, has been broken since before launch! And just to add fuel to the fire, the EA app, which has been pretty much forced on players, is notorious for being a piece of trash that works properly maybe once a week, with no option to just play offline and avoid these issues. At this point I don't understand how people still pay for this game. At least if you sail the seven seas you will be disappointed but still have the money
EA's app is literally trash!!! I bought recent Sims 3 packs and when they didn't install I searched EVERYWHERE on the app to find out how to install them manually. There was no option!!! So I opened up an EA support case which took FOREVER for them to even look at just for them to close it without notifying me and reasoned that they couldn't help me with installing my DLC's??? So then, I opened another case for a refund in which they never even responded!!!!! Then I got blocked from opening more cases or something because I don't have any option to open a new one. I'm hoping PayPal will give me a refund but I doubt it. The app also locked me off of Sims 4 and 3 when I first downloaded it. Opened up a case for that and all they did was send me three links to forums of other players having this issue instead of simply having an actual person tell me what the hell I need to do, and I didn't even find a method that worked IN the forums. It eventually let me in a month after or so but seriously?????
Oh, so the plant thing is common. I didn't know. I first thought it happened because I added the already played in an then saved lot that already had plants to my gallery to put it in another save file but recently all my apple trees just vanished.
I think Sims started dipping with Sims 3 after management changes and Will Wright leaving. I know Sims 3 did a good job in many departments, but in some big ways it marked a downturn trend for the series, like with the alteration of the Sims Store. Back in The Sims 2, you could access player-created mods, objects, houses etc. from the store all for FREE, but EA's altering of this model showed the direction they wanted to take things. Sims 3 was really tough to mod, and we now have an almost decade-long cash-grab model of Sims 4, lol. I've been saying for years I'm surprised EA hasn't tried a free-to-play base game and charge $$$$$ for microtransactions. Looks like I may finally get my unwanted wish.
Sims 3 is overhyped. It had great features but its playability is a nightmare. Even with my absolute high end pc back then, the game performance was horrible, it lagged due to its open world, I was unable to play with CC. It ran as badly on my new pc as on the old one and on my Mac. The graphics weren't great either and the pancake faces of the Sims were a pain in the behind. The Sims 3 Store was also a really bad cash cow and they left out a lot of features in the expansions in order for us to buy them in the store. People really do not see that today... Sims 2 was an absolute masterpiece though. Sims 1 was great, I played it for years, but its successor was superior in every way. Gameplay, animations, playability, creativity. Neither Sims 3 nor 4 matched it. But I must admit I love the art style of Sims 4, I was glad they "dumbed" it down, the textures were softer. In the beginning I used the same high end pc for Sims 4 as I had for Sims 3 and even though it was 5 years younger, it ran so smoothly even with 20 GB of CC. I admit that it doesn't feel as finished as the reiterations before and it's a pity to me. But no, Sims 3 wasn't any better.
Honestly in my opinion the Sims 3 and the Sims 2 are almost tied. I do really like the sims 3 and it beat both the sims 2 and 4 in many aspects. But I have to admit The sims 2 is still better though not by much.
@@lapetitecerise4557 I mean, I'm pretty much aligned there with your points, even up to liking Sims 4 art style, lol But seriously, the Store is crucial because it directs access of additional created content and indicates EA's business decisions. Once the store became a paid model, it raised a red flag, and it showed where this was all headed. Today, we see how things are. Greedy companies, lol. Ah well, at least Sims 3 gave us open world and the color-wheel.
@@fosterkmas The colour wheel I miss dearly. I wish we had that for the beds in Sims 4. I looove building and the beds are one of the worst parts while decorating. They have pretty options, but the combos of bedding and frame... it's like dressing myself in a completely dark room.
@@lapetitecerise4557 The problem with Sims3 is that it's 32-bit only so can only do about 2.5 gigs of memory, and the open world means it has to do a LOT of simulation in the background. It's like Dwarf Fortress, except limited to one cpu core and maybe a few threads total (so it'll keep rendering animations even as the game freezes under it taking UI with it). Sims3 needs a rewrite to be a good game but they have shown zero interest in doing so and outright said no. The store was the downfall really, but Sims3 did have a cool feature to get around that: Freeform castable 'colour' regions. So if it said 'what colour do you want to make the countertop' you could use the wheel, or instead go "nah, I'm gonna use this riveted metal texture from floors instead for a hard industrial counter look" and the game went "You do you!" even as it sold a new modelled countertop that was identical otherwise on the store.
Crazy how Sims 4 has more DLC than all previous games combined, but is still missing a lot of features from the previous games. If the rumors about the Sims 5 are true, I don't think I'll even give it a try. I still play the Sims 2 and 3, and I'll be giving Paralives and Life By You a try. Hopefully, either or both of them are good. EA gets away with zero effort because there's no competition.
i would KILL to play the sims 2 for the first time just to feel the amazement that i’d received by playing the game 😢 i remember how i’d get excited when i watch my sim wash their face from the Deluxe pack
I'm a Simmer since TS1 was released and TS3 is my all-time favourite. It's been released back in 2009 and to this day it still surprises me with new things I didn't know about! That says a lot about the love and detail that's been put into this game. Truly the last Sims game with a soul.
@@HazewinDog TS2 does run better, but I think you need to look up resolution fixes for modern pcs. also I'm not sure if you know but there are mods for TS3 that are entirely based around fixing bugginess in TS3. they won't fix it entirely, but mods like the NRAAS series do improve TS3 noticeably.
I had so much fun with Sims2. Bought all the expansion packs. Made my city so beautiful. Had restaurants. Stores. Places for all my Sims to go play music together. Made nannies with high skill levels to move in and take care of the babies. Had parks for my Sims to go play music together. Homes in the mountains ... by the oceans. I played that game for four years and was still discovering game secrets. Took 300k of the greatest photos. Made memories and videos. Made my own sim movies to watch on their sim tv. Let the maid go on friendly terms, fixed up Mary Sue and Daniel Pleasant making them beautiful and helped them fall back in love. Got the kids happy and on their own. Always ended my game with my Sims in the shower. When I got Night Life and added it to my basic game ... Daniel and Mary Sue got out of the shower without their pixels. Yep ... got some fun pictures of all that. Daniel was an artist and painted some beautiful paintings of Mary Sue without her pixels. So cute! Fixed up the Goths. Mort and the kids went back to Strangetown and added Bella back to their home. Back to Pleasantview, where they went to the mountains on family vacations. Alexander Goth got Meadow Thayer off the streets, dressed her up and married her. The wedding was BEAUTIFUL !!! ... under a full moon. Did you guys know you could get pictures and videos under a full moon ? ... !!! Loved the slow motion of snowball fights and dinners ... while I was taking photos. Loved the dogs and cats. The green houses. The trees. Fishing. Swimming pools. But ... then ... I had to go get a real life and missed out on 3 and 4. Maybe I'll try 3 soon.
As a kid i always watched so many sims 3 lets plays of the island pack and the supernatural pack and i was always so engaged with how filling those series were, when i slowly became older sims 4 was the new ride and i got into watching sims 4 series and discovered that majority of the gaming stemmed from the youtubers' creativity and the inclusion of mods and cc. Without mods and cc the game is sadly only worth playing for impressionable children who have high attention spans. Even myself being now 17 and still playing the sims 4, the only way its bearable to really play is through creating in depth character backstories and a bunch of custom drama, families, as well as immersive fashion and in general just 'roleplaying' scenarios because the game is drier than a desert with the only lazily implemented natural 'events' being sims calling your house up, or having weather changes randomly impact your sims even with many packs it's really a 'what you make of it' game instead of an actual proper game in my opinion as was the sims 3. Its a shame, i honestly would be better of just having sims 3 and being able to have all the supernatural ability users all in a single cheap pack and that could do me with more content than ea has provided me with city living, snowy escape, vampires, and seasons all combined LMAOoo. But it is what it is sadly.
I find that most of the older Sims base games do, in fact, have much more replayability and content than the Sims 4 does with expansions. Moreover, you are exactly correct that expansion packs for TS3 had alot of content and immersion... Expansion packs for TS4 seem cheap and watered down in comparison.
As much as I love sims 4, the dlc situation is horrific, and the fact there’s packs that still have countless bugs and glitches that don’t get fixed is shocking. They clearly just want to get as much money as possible
@@sharpasacueballseems to me like creating a fully fledged game right out of the box would be better for everyone. EA's current strategy of milking new players for every penny has destroyed their entire brand and they'll eventually run out of suckers.
Lets hope competition from Life by You and Paralives will mean Sims 6 will be somewhat decent. I doubt that will be the case for Sims 5, but it'll probably be the game they get a reality check with once fans migrate over to actual alternatives
@@bull_technology In the last Behind the Sims it was said that Project Renee and Sims 4 will co-exist after release of Renee, and Sims 4 will continue to release dlc for near future (sounds like +10 more years). Renee is likely to be more like genshin impact with lootboxes (but since release is 3+ years away - this will be outdated game too). Why even try to make a new game if you can milk old one forever? And wave off all protests of dolly graphics and no color wheel or open world with one answer - this way the game is more stable! no bugs and lags! more representation for non-biological genders!
I legit miss the sims 2. The fact you could play one household and then play another 3 households and go back to where you left your first family was actually really fun and let me do so much with storylines. Also, it had one-sided relationships which was so much fun because you could have one sim in love and another completely uninterested. With the sims 4, I like the graphics, creating sims and building, but I hate gameplay itself. I wish there was a game that brought together the best of sims 2 and sims 3 gameplay. I literally gave up on sims 4 years ago, I have the base game and 2 EPs, and there is no way I will ever buy another sims 4 EP or stuff pack or whatever. I would rather play sims 2 with horrible graphics but at least the gameplay is interesting.
6:53 I played sims all my life. Each game was a complete game and the DLC was just disks you bought to add more items to the game. Everything I’m hearing about Sims 4 just… it doesn’t even sound like a complete game half the time.
Everytime I watch a video like this I note the tone of the person narrating and I can tell when it’s someone who has played the Sims from the beginning and loved it with every bit of their hearts, like I did. There is an almost tangible sadness there, a wistful yearning for the days where we spent hours and hours glued to our computers, perfecting our homes, levelling up our sims skills, watching them interact with their family and friends and creating elaborate plots and stories. I remember the magic. I can still feel the magic. And when I open up Sims 3, I still remember it so vividly, it’s like coming home after having been abroad for decades. Yet the graphics of TS3 are getting harder to deal with, and though the build mode is great, it has limitations that can be frustrating. I had such high hopes for TS4. I hoped it would be another TS3 but even better, TS3 with better graphics and better plots and new activities and all kinds of goodies. We all hoped for that. Almost 10 years later, I have all but given up on the series. I loyally bought the base game and all expansions and game packs (never stuff packs) for quite a few years, despite being disappointed with every one. I kept telling myself that they were just starting out slow, that it would get better. The potential was absolutely there… but it was never realized. Around 2018 or 2019 I stopped buying all the DLC and just purchased the ones that looked intriguing. Even then, even when the trailers seemed to promise exactly what I was hoping for, it fell short. Eventually I stopped buying altogether. After a while, I bought Cottage Living because I had seen some reviews even by people who, like me, had given up, that seemed to enjoy it. Indeed I did have a bit of fun with, certainly the most fun I’ve had with TS4 ever. But the novelty wore off fast and I was back to the shallow gameplay that TS4 has always offered. The way EA is simply (and so obviously!!!) just milking this cash cow of every possible penny and not even trying to deliver content with heart sickens me. Maxis games were some of the best ever made and to see The Sims fall to this corporate bullshit makes me so sad. The only redeeming qualities of TS4 are the graphics and the build mode. I will admit, I enjoy the build mode a lot. But with the terrible gameplay mode? It has become nothing more than a house designer to me, and it used to be so, so much more. If the Sims 5 is what people are speculating, I’m not touching it. I think I’m done with the series. I might pick up the horse one when it goes on sale only because I love horses, but otherwise that’s it for me. And that still honestly makes me so sad. To all those grieving this wonderful series like I am… we’re not alone. Let us at least fondly remember the Sims 1-3 and let this one die along with any bit of integrity EA has left.

I truly feel that Sims 5 will be the last. I can absolutely believe it's going fully free-to-pay, because as it stands well.. EA knows that MANY people that are interested in the series but not gullible enough to shell out $1k (on ANY game) rather easily find illicit ways to access ALL the content they so readily monetize. But, going forward, make it so the player must go through an in-game marketplace? Well, it just got significantly harder for people to do that sort of thing, if not impossible. Once EA fully embraces an environment in which those interested have no choice but to pay outrageous "microtransactions" (at the rate of increase between games for an all-inclusive experience, I'd guess at least $2k total after added up) or simply not play- I'd bet, most will simply not play. Gradually, EA will see the numbers failing, and give up on The Sims instead of ever having the reflection to know it is only 'dead' due to their own poor business decisions. I hate to be pessimistic, but the writing is on the wall. It's confusing and sad to me to see so many modern fans more than okay with the current business model.. What game is worth $1k or more?? You can go out and buy a price-gouged PS5 for literally several hundred less than that! 💔
I’ve been truly speechless seeing younger/modern fans being ok or even fighting for clearly shady and greedy business practices in games. Micro transactions, missing content or dumbing down content that used to work well in previous games I’ve seen people fight not against but for this stuff (people shouldn’t be mad about and I don’t see what’s wrong with it this is normal kind of talk) truly baffling and only makes the problems 10xs worse.
@Riu-bw4bl I think there's a key difference in the games some of these people grew up with versus older crowds. Games I grew up with couldn't be "fixed" post-release in a really meaningful manner or without really annoying effort (e.g. wow, you're shipping me a floppy for [Game Title] fixes? Thanks! Lol). If a game was broken, it was TRULY broken, and no one recommended its purchase typically. Now, there's an expectation of fixes and optimism that companies like EA absolutely exploit for profit, with a generation of gamers who are only familiar with games that receive patches and updates. The arguments of "ughhh it wasn't this way when *I* was young" is usually stated without basis and disconnected from reality but I think, with video games, this drastic shift in how games *can* be made and maintained modernly is a huge part of why companies are able to get away with this behaviour. It isn't entirely unrealistic for a game to be fixed or massively improved for free nowadays.. But how often does it actually happen? Lol. Just foster a friendly face towards your community to make it seem like you *could* fix stuff, but really don't *have* to. Foster optimism you can exploit, the profits will come regardless of the lived consumer experience.
Sims 4 going Free-to-Play marks the death of the Sims for me. It's a big franchise-wide pivot. No doubt in my mind that future Sims games will also be F2P, which gives people some justification for why the game isn't full-featured as opposed to a basket for you to put DLCs in. Seeing their direction, I'd rather pay for a Sims 3 "Bug Fixes & Optimizations Pack" than getting future Sims game. EA also caught wind of people dissatisfied with TS4 starting TS3, that's why TS3 prices are hiked and they no longer go on discount anymore. Also, the video forgot to mention _My First Pets_ stuff pack, which is a pack that gives you small pets. Meanwhile Sims 3 Pets pack give you: Cats & Dogs, Horses, and Small Pets. It's 3 separate packs in TS4.
I did, indeed leave out the My First Pet Stuff Pack. To be honest, it completely flew over my head… It's hard to keep track of all the DLC for the game. Free to play really is the nail in the coffin for the Sims series. You are 100% correct on the fact that they can shield themselves from criticism by saying, "hey it's free to play though" Disgusting.
I think sims 2 is underrated. I was born in 2001. I have played all 4 games. But I keep wanting to go back to sims 2. I really liked it. I also have many expansion packs, all on CD
I mostly use the Sims 4 as a character creator and building simulator, as that's really where it's strenghts lie. Actual gameplay gets stale fast. And even then, i always use a ton of cc and mods
Same here. Werewolves is my favourite pack coz of them wolves. Made some interesting characters for a dark fantasy story (not like friggin twilight) but that’s about it.. it’s just a pretty looking game.
@@BooDotBoo bruh I downloaded and installed TS4 for a whole day then stopped playing after 2 hours. It's just so... boring compared to TS2 and FEELS empty, both the sims and the gameplay. Glad I didn't purchase jack shit for this game
I feel like Paralives could be the game to carry on the sims’ legacy. Seeing the effort the developers are putting into the game and the detail is insane.
The Sims 2 is my favorite game of all time and to this day shows more attention to detail and heart than any other sims game. 4 has an amazing build mode, but that’s not simulating life. Sims 3 took a lot of shortcuts too, but 4 took it to an unreasonable and embarrassing degree. This is a AAA company.
Sims 3 was the best by far. Had no shortcuts and the open world and capability of having plots wherever you wanted and the size you wanted was unbeatable. I miss TS3 as my macbook cant run it.
@@Abellajajait's not a lack of staff. The original talent has left the company. EA is a publisher, not a developer. They are a company that has a lot of money which they use to buy studios, cash in on the IP, then run it into the ground. They just happened to strike gold with the Sims and we're seeing their business model in real time. Maxis/Will Wright made the game and core concept originally, and that's why there's such a huge difference in quality from game to game.
As a mexican girl living in Mexico I used to be so exited to get home after school to play sims 2 all day. Then the sims 3 was out and I wanted to play it so bad, but the prices were too high, and where I lived they didn’t had any sims games, we had to go to the US to buy it. Then, after 4 years I finally could buy it because it was on sale, I think i bought it in Black Friday, but I only got to play it a few months when ea announced the sims 4. I was so sad bc I recently got the sims 3 and I didn’t want to feel left behind on the great success that the sims 4 was going (or assumed) to be. When I saw it costed 60 dollars I thought to myself “I could never get the new game”. The prices are ridiculously high, and maybe its worth it bc of the franchise and the money it took to make it, but I just wanted the base game, it was ridiculous of me to think I could buy the expansion packs bc it was a lot of money. Time has passed, I got ts4 on a Black Friday too for 20 dollars, and I was sooo happy, and there werent any expansion packs announced (yet) but when I got it they announced the camp expansion thing, and I got it, ask me when have I played with that game mode, it’s so boring. Anyway, now I just find it crazy and ridiculous how they are making expansion packs, kits and whatever else, no items for free, and apparently they will never be. Honestly I got happy when the game got free to play, bc there are many many people who can’t buy it and they download it in other ways. But yeah, I agree with you that EA is just milking the game and it’s disappointing and disgusting. Ps. Sorry for sharing a lot and ranting, i just wanted to give my opinion on it.
What i don’t like on sims 4 is basing instead of on goals your sims want emotions. The reality is our emotions dont control our whole lives constantly with decisions. Also i miss the randomness sims 2 had it always was shocking and fun for me to figure out over time. Like getting hit by a satellite, abducts by aliens, get bit by a werewolf etc i also liked how if you wanted to do certain things you had to work for it such as becoming a vampire you had to befriend them and made a lot of work. the smaell details in sims and when their needs arent met the crazy comes out if was just more entertaining i cant get myself to play sims 4 long
I'm 35, and I remember reading a preview on The Sims, I must have read that article 20 times. It's a shame Will Wright sold out to EA. EA has no love for their consumers, we are not people, only wallets.
I agree, but I can't blame him either. If someone were to offer you bucket loads of money for something you created and would give you the freedom to retire early with a super comfy lifestyle, wouldn't you be tempted to take the offer too? On a side note, Will made the game affordable and accessible to everyone. I happily paid for his game and all the expansion packs. I could barely afford anything at the time and I had enough money to buy it.
Most of what we consider staples of the sims franchise started and were created in Sims 2. Toddlers and teens didn't exist in Sims before Sims 2. Even the "young adult" life stage itself, tho it was locked to university, wouldn't exist if not for Sims 2 introducing it. Sims 2 was a true innovative leap that the sims has not made since. At least Sims 3 had open world to call itself unique and, I admit, made aliens and some of the occult life states more interesting. Sims 4 is just treading water to all the things we had before and doing very little new or expansive with it.
That's what I play . I have never had an interest in Sims 4 . I would love to get Sims 3 but I run a windows 7 for my Sims 2 and idk if 3 would play on it
Sims 3 also has its own magic with the open worlds and reworked personality system; but sims 4 lack all of the things that made the previous games fun. insted they gave us " propnouns" and sjw bullshit.
@@JimMilton-ej6zi I wouldn’t say Sims 3 perfected anything. In 2023 it’s easier to play a stable game, but at release it was badly optimized and really the fans and mods have done most of the fixing. Sims 3 also dropped things that are still better in Sims 2. I am pulled out everytime a freaking sim teleports across the street into a car. Not to mention the unrealistic uturns and the speeding. I’d honestly rather not ‘see’ the drive. Leaving and arriving is fine. Sims 3 sims are dangerous drivers. And I’ve had sims 3 cars just go through other cars. Wtf. I was playing sims 1 yesterday and the carpool car couldn’t leave because a dog was in front of it. A sims 1 car acknowledged blockage. Yet Sims 3 is suppose to be the most ‘realistic’ when I just watched a car drive through a cab? No wonder sims 4 was like ‘why not just eliminate the car’ and had teleporting be standard. I blame Sims 3 for starting it. Minus having a street to drive it down beyond the lot, I think Sims 2 did cars overall better. Babies and toddlers are both better in sims 2 and 4. And by Babies I mean sims 4 infants, not bassinet-locked newborns (they still suck). But why can’t I wash my toddler Sims 3? Changing a diaper is not the same thing as a bath Sims 3! Also, if you are a rotational player Sims 3 downright punishes you for swapping families warning you that you will lose you lifetime wishes if you swap. Why give me all these premade families with story tracks if you want me to commit to one Sim family? It litterally crushed a whole playstyle at launch. Most of whom just went back to Sims 2 until Nraas mods made playing their way a bit more possible. Sims 3 has huge flaws and is unplayable without the Nraas mods (for me) as I can set up a protected ‘caste’ as my rotational group if I want without having to have separate saves. The open world was an accomplishment and the worlds ARE pretty but for actual gameplay, I have way more fun in Sims 2. Sims 3 is a good game, but there are times I think it’s looked at with rose tinted glasses when I would say there are small areas where TS4 is even better than TS3. And not just Build/Buy.
For me the feature I miss the most from Sims 3 is the create a style mode. Being able to specify the color of your furniture and decor yourself made it so much easier to mix and match everything. It doesn't matter if you have hundreds of objects to choose from if you can't mix even a quarter of it without creating a mad mismatch of styles and colors. I can bear with the downgraded lack of an open world, but I know that if the color wheel is lacking in Sims 5 then it won't ever be worth buying into. As for their bs excuse of wanting to reduce loading times: I honestly rather have one prolonged loading screen when I start the game and occasionally travel to a new map than the far more frequent loading screens you got in Sims 4.
I miss Maxis and Will Wright. Also, the shift from physical (Which is my preferred format and should've never changed, the warning shot was there by SimCity 2013) into the digital era (Forced DRM to use third party softwares i.e. Origin and Steam) has made gaming entirely lazier and greedy.
Indeed. What makes me mad even more is that EA sells fake disk copies at retail stores for SimCity and the Sims... But you'll purchase the fake disk, and open it up only to find a game code rather than a CD.
I grew up playing The Sims 1 - 3. I preordered The Sims 4. On launch I played for a few hours then got a refund 😂 I remember getting a funny feeling when the trailers and gameplay videos dropped for TS4 because I was waiting to get that feeling I got when Sims 2 and Sims 3 were previewed, it was amazing to see all of the advancements between titles. Whereas the only thing they were pushing as the big improvement was ‘emotions’ and how alive the Sims feel. I couldn’t fathom that it was a mainline Sims instalment!
I had the same feeling and decided to wait to buy sims 4 until the toddlers were added. I remember going to a friend's house and she had it, I was so excited! I said "Wow! The Sims 4! Is it good? Should I go ahead and get it?" and her response was awkward silence. Talk about the happiness leaving my body.
even worse that sims 4's emotions system, the only so-called improvement, was just a small piece of what emotions were in sims 3 or even especially sims 2, someone made a video about sims 2's aspiration system recently and i had no idea that its so realistic and ive been playing sims 2 for a decade now, its way better than what sims 4 has, ea just made it more flashy and made a big deal out of it to make it look like an improvement
@@emmasvensson1838 "we need to talk about Sims 2’s literal mental breakdown" by Wesiya, she goes in depth about how it works and uncovers a few lesser known facts about it
I tried playing sims 4 and nearly lost my mind because of stuff like that. My character would have like two hours before work/school and somehow they almost never finish their food before they have to leave. It's actually unreal how broken and unplayable sims 4 really is.
This is the reason why I ultimately decided to stop buying DLC in The Sims 4 and have also returned to (joyfully!) playing The Sims 3. I honestly do not have hope for The Sims 5, but am really hoping for Life By You and Paralives to snatch the reins from EA.
Don't forget about the STATE of these DLCs. There are game-breaking bugs that have been known to exist for like 5 years that are not yet fixed by EA 💀 Apparently it's not economically viable and they direct the manpower towards pumping out a next cash grab "kit" instead of fixing the content they already sold.
The Sims 4 has been such a let down in terms of gameplay (or should I say lack of) & DLC modeling. It's all about quantity, but no quality. I actually feel bad for the devs because they are doing their jobs that are run by a company and higher ups who clearly do not care about this franchise whatsoever. I remember how disappointed I was after playing TS4 upon its release. I was SO excited because I could finally buy it with my own money instead of waiting for it as a gift. The IMMENSE sadness I felt upon opening it was so great. The advertising for it was very vague and mysterious, most likely due to it being a last min project change and forcing devs to create a shallow, unstable, featureless game. I had no idea when i got it that it'd be closed world with loading screens, as idt anyone else did either. They really played us all. I was expecting TS3 but enhanced, and we sadly never received that.
It really does make me sick that they’re selling parts of the game we used to enjoy! Everything we fell in love with isn’t base game anymore. The packs/DLCs aren’t even worth it.
But the REAL problem is that almost all the pack/expansion they release are absolute mess/broken in the first launch... alright we know they need money to develope the game right?... but PLEASE ts4 devs complete your game and dont release as a broken product to your customer
@@Ocidad Exactly. Also BASE GAME is buggy and they keep building on a rotting foundation instead of improving THE BASE. I played a sim week with just base game of TS4 as an experiment and there were a few things I actually enjoyed. No DLC, no mods. I wasn't expecting more than getting a job and playing around the neighborhood a bit, seeing how the friend/lover relationship building mechanics work. And I was looking forward to playing something with a bit more modern tech in it. Most Sims base game is a bit vanilla. I've never had a first sim week of playing a Sim in a sim game, that was THAT exciting, even in earlier games. But it's normally relaxing to have clear cut goal setting for life before things start compounding and getting more challenging. It's a cozy game for me anyway. Like I never got deep into the occults of Sims for example. Don't hate them but beyond playing with Aliens a bit, I like a mostly human sim doing everyday life cozy game. I have other games for pure excitement and high adrenaline. But the base game is buggy!!! A vampire or werewolf pack is just a blanket over bugs they haven't fixed.
It's a good thing that we now have two different open world life simulators in development - one that's hyper-realistic, and the other that's is painterly, and each appealing in their own ways. Life simulators will live on even if the sims franchises dies a fiery death of blatant cash grabbing.
At this point im hopping people won't settle for breadcrumbs and sabotage Sims 5 to teach them a lesson but i know thats not gonna happen and the cycle will continue
I think the Sims community has largely had enough. I think most Simmers are eager to see what other game devs have in store with games such as Paralives. Hopefully this will serve as a lesson to EA
Unfortunately, Simmers are very loyal, not to mention there not being competition, so EA knew they'd got an amazing cash cow when they bought it. And that's proven every time something is released. Even people who complain about it and say they hate the game STILL buy every pack that comes out. They will buy Sims 5, start the cycle over, and still buy it all. I'm happy that, when Sims 4 came out, I was oddly turned off by it and didn't buy the game. Which was a first for me, because I bought every game in the franchise before that. I'm happy I didn't, too. I did get the base game for free, even bought 2 or 3 packs on sale, but it was still so boring, it took me over a year to get a full 24 hours played in the game. I tried to like it, but it's so empty. I, however, won't keep buying the games like many simmers continue to do. I can buy full games for less than an expansion pack that actually works and I have fun playing.
I always feel so sad whenever I think about the current state of the sims. I was so obsessed with the sims 2 and 3 in my childhood and teens and even in my 20s when I got back into it again. I used to create my own characters in school and recreate them in the Sims when I got home on my computer. I also used to spend hours on end playing the games and rarely ever took breaks. The sims 3 was once forcefully uninstalled from my computer by my mother in 2012 since she said that it made me abnormal and not like the other children. To be honest, I don’t care much about the sims 4 anymore, I just want the sims 3 remastered and 64-bit to allow it to be faster and more optimized, so I can play it again.
@@blacklavoux agreed, I really like the art style as well of the sims 4. It is a shame that the gameplay doesn’t match up due to its bugginess that renders it unplayable. I’ve made the most beautiful I’ve ever made in the sims 4.

EA destroyed the franchise. I uninstalled this cash-grab 4 years ago and I don't even want it for free. This video needs to get to more people. My favorite sims games are The Sims 1 and 2
grew up with Sims 3 and recently fell in love with Sims 2, it's a real shame how much games have been turned into a marketing scam, makes it all the less shocking why companies were upset at Baldur's Gate 3 doing so well
Sims 3 is my main Sims game now. Life By You will hopefully polish their game with the extra 6 months. I can imagine their DLC will be similar but hopefully cheaper
I think it's absolutely not bad if there are many DLCs. Not even if they are highly priced. As long as the content is right! And that is not the case with Sims. Paradox is different. You can sink hundreds of Euros into Stellaris or Europa Universalis or Cities Skylines, but on the one hand the games are fun and feel complete even without a single DLC and on the other hand you simply get the performance you pay for. And hopefully it will be the same with Life By You. I'm more worried that Life By You will be too ugly and sandboxy for my personal taste.
@vomm that's my concern too and I agree completely about DLC. I don't mind paying for new content as long as the quality is worth the price. I always buy Sims 4 packs cheaper. I'd never pay full price again. If Life By You is good on release then there will be more hype surrounding DLC similar to when Sims 4 started everyone was excited for new stuff. Now most of us are just ready for it to end
+ another thing worth mentioning is that in order to enjoy TS4 at least a little you HAVE to buy some DLCs as pure vanilla base game is dull af. I remember playing base TS3 for the longest time and never having enough of it whereas TS4 without additional content is sooo boring after an hour or two. DLC should be expanding a gameplay, not making the base game playable at all
I'll tell you how great the old games were. I was randomly looking at a video about The Sims 2... I still play Sims 2, yet I JUST learned about something I could do in that video I watched a few days ago. That's amazing for a game that came out so long ago. I played 24 hours of Sims 4, over an entire year, and felt like I did everything there was to do in the game.
I play the Sims 4 for years and something to take into consideration about the Realm of Magic is that it was very disappointing because doesn't even include the typical witch hat for your witch sims. I thought it was going to be included because when I found out about the pack, I found a bunch of pictures on the internet including them, but I found out I only needed mods to do so. As you mention in 9:10, it's very annoying how expensive they make the game.
What's disguisting is how hard they make it to play their older games and won't remaster them. I'm able to play the sims 2 only because they have the collectoers edition for Mac, but I'm sadly unable to play the sims 3 properly, a game in which I own. Great video! It's hard hitting, consice and to the point, and it's the issue I've been yelling from the mountain top for years
Thanks for the kind words. The Sims situation on the Mac is a sad state of affairs. It's clear that since Apple dropped 32 bit support, apps such as TS3 just don't work properly... but it's hard to blame Apple, when most 32-bit applications are no longer being sold. The difference is EA IS still selling The Sims 3! It's borderline criminal
I created my first legacy family on Sims 2🩷 There are currently 20 babies-teens under one roof in the Pascal Curious/Nervous Subject Household. Yes I love mods and CC lol
Sims 2 and Sims 3 were so much easier to mod too, and add your own content. That's what I think really had them going so long. It was simple to add things like your own photos as paintings and your own videos that would play on the TV. Those little things added a lot to the fun for me.
I always thought the Sims 3 had predatory packs, but at least they added significant content that increased my playtime. The Sims 4 packs add such minor things that I've never really felt that pressured into buying them, and yet they cost more. You perfectly described why it's just ridiculous. I recommend giving Paralives a look! It's still in development but looks very promising so far.
@@IndigoYeti games that take a long time is a good thing, not a bad thing. It means they're taking more time to finish it, and we won't get an unfinished buggy mess that seems to have become standard in the industry
Yea people seem to forget they were selling worlds for like $40 lol albeit they did come with some new items the Sims 3 was def a cash grab but it was worth it a lot of time whereas Sims 4 just isn’t lol
That was the most excellent telling of the way that the Sims franchise has gone down the drain and I am so glad I saw your video I'm so glad I'm not the only one that sees this stuff... it really is sickening what they're doing and I can't wait for the competitors that are coming out with life simulator games to hopefully make a better life simulator with way more to offer & actually get me back into playing and loving life simulators the way I used to with the older Sims games
One of the developers of Sims 2 and 3 is working on a new game with Paradox, life by you. My hopes are high! Remember him delivering a package with a new computer in Sims 2?
@@joshi1863 If Paradox does as good a job with this game as it looks like they’re doing, hopefully you won’t need DLC for it to be fun. Just like with Sims 3, the base game should be fully fleshed out. I have all the DLC for S3 but sometimes just like to go back to the base game and enjoy the quirkiness of the characters and the gameplay. The base game should be great. DLC should be enjoyable additions, not necessary to make the game playable as in sims 4 (my opinion of course). It will be interesting to see how LBY develops.
Also dont forget in the sims 3 they had the exchange where you could get a decent amount of content for free, where in the sims 4 they only offered like 1 free item and it was a guitar skin.
This feels like what happened to the Simpsons. The series will live on for probably forever, but really died a very long time ago. I just have to settle for playing the Sims 2 and watching the 90s episodes of the Simpsons forever lol
I'm in the S3 camp. S3 is fun, I was a fan of Sweet Treats because it had a Willy Wonka feel. The talent they were pulling for radio stations was amazing. S4 is really just a parody of itself. Sad that most of the original developers are gone. EA loves to exploit the IPs they buy for money and hence here we are.
I am also extremely fascinated by the fact that there is no sims 4 competitors on the market. We are littered with animal crossing dupes but there is no sims alternatives, like at all.
Since launch, the Sims team have seemed to have existed in some sort of echo chamber where they think every change they make is what the fans want, only to ge bombarded with hate and critique, then they get upset when people react in such a way. I have never seen a game/developer miss the mark so consistently, it's almost impressive 😭
It is laughable how unbelievably out of touch they seem to be. You can see it in their marketing and flamboyant patch notes. I remember when they bragged about adding swimming pools to the game.
@@bull_technology they've been able to get away with this because they have been comfortably the only life sim game, but that's about to change with Life By You & Paralives coming soon
More people are (re)discovering sims 3 and are amazed by how much more there is to see and do. It is the best one imo
That's true. I discovered Sims 3 more in last times and i gotta like it. Before my only favorite was Sims 2 across years.
In a perfect world, instead of Sims 5, we would get graphic and mechanical remasters of 2 and 3.
I would happily pay 60$ just for a sims 2 basegame remaster. It's my fav.
We definitely don’t live in that world 😂🥲
sims 2 with open world and better graphic pls
It's most likely TS5 will be subscription based, unfortunately.
Also, a coding remaster of sims 3. I LOVE that game but goddamn it's so heavy on your pc.
The worst part is how unplayable this game is without mods, and how much more the mods actually add to the game and how much better they are than anything that comes out.
Don't forget CC and maxis match! Kids and under don't have enough clothing compare to teenagers and up. 😕
I find it disgusting how they continue to bring packs out but don't fix the ones that still don't work! They've completely robbed us!
yes get to work is still bugged out. so many of the early packs are still so buggy it's ridiculous
Exactly, my sims still cannot dine out or get married with no episodes.
right, but you can just stop giving them money. at this point if you bought packs you cant blame them.

Could just pirate the game, if theirs no legitimate way to get the game, its morally ok to pirate it.
Now ofc the law would disagree, but crack downs on people pirating the game are very rare, and the biggest thing you'll ever probably get is a letter or email from your ISP saying stop. (Which you should always use encrypted DNS and or a VPN to prevent this)

I'd rather not have Paradox touch them either. City Living fully broke the game when it came out, it usually happened on higher-end machines which made it funnier, it TOOK YEARS for it to be "fixed".
How do I get my bills to stop being $10,000+ a week?

Which ime, tends to lead to a kind of, eliding of 'devs who are paid a salary to make game things' and 'EA the company with heavily profit-driven corporate practices.'
I don't think that's all to great of a thing to encourage, even if for no other reason than if we just go 'yeah, lazy devs, lazy EA' interchangeably, or signal that, then there's not really gonna be a lot of the fandom holding the *company* and its practices, specifically, accountable.
The 'Late Night' expansion in Sims3 (for 20$) had: a new world, apartment buildings (and the option to create them!), clubs, film-related careers, celebrities and vampires. The Sims 4 has similar content but spread out over 4 packs (for 140$).

The sims really do just act like idiots in TS4. The AI is just abysmal. In that regard, the older Sims games do run rings around TS4… but they really shouldn’t. The Sims 2 is a terrific game though

It's amazing.
@Alejaccx how is it working ? On Win 10 the Game always crashing...

Imagine having such dedicated fanbase 19 years later.

i do say this on any sims 4/sims 5 video i see.
The only reason they can get away with his shenanigans now is because there isn't a fully fledged competitor to them in this game space.
we have paralives and life by you swooping in
Say it louder for the devs in the back!!
People need to sue this company 🙄

I purchesed the collectors edition of The Sims 4 back in July 2014, I don't remember how much I paid, but my 12 year old self saved up the entire cash I got on Christmas, Easter Bunny and my birthday to buy it, I played 2 days got bored and came back to The Sims 2 - I've been playing The Sims 2 forpast 16 years everyweek on Saturdays to relax
so in my book The Sims 4 was a let down and I am happy that I didn't purchase any of TS4 DLC's
TS2 was and still is a great game. I highly doubt 16 years from now, people will feel the same about the Sims 4.
poor kid
Same thing. I was during my first college year and I saved money for The Sims 4 Collector's Edition. Never played a game so boring from the franchise.
That is so sad they really wasted ur money u saved up for I don’t think sims realise that
Sims 2 and Sims 3 Let's Plays are back now in trend... these two are timeless...you can even play it simultaneously because it feels like these two are not in the same franchise... so unique from one another....
So yes, I would definitely add this to the laundry list of issues with the Sims 4.
get a better pc then because I haven't had any issues of the sort just get off your 1980s garbage pc and all with be fixed :)
This is clearly not a problem unique to my computer. I have a custom built 1700X system with a 2060 and 16 gigs of RAM. My machine can run any game at 1080P and at 60 frames per second.
LGR in his great review documents frame loss as well after extended play:

Unfinished hits the nail right on the head. The Sims 4 seems like one big developer beta for a game.
@@bull_technology you are not wrong and the sims 1 2 and 3 have shown it did not need to be this way.
And never in-build fridges, what is very common in West-Europe.
Don't worry, soon EA will release Sims 4: Hair Time which will allow you to color your hair! It also adds two hairstyles and lets you talk to other Sims about your hair! It also adds a "wash hair" feature to the shower.
All for the amazing price of... $39.99!

I adore Sims 2 and will forever. I felt like the Sims had more personality and it made me laugh a lot.
They did. The sims in that game had more detail to their animations when interacting, and they had more reactions to other sims depending on relationship and personality. Sims 3 cut out tons of these.
So, for someone new to the Sims, Sims 2 would be the best place to start?
Sims 2 on the console (Xbox, etc) was the best! I personally like the console sims better than the pc versions, bc the console versions usually have a storylines.
@majorgear1021 in my personal opinion most definitely! Of course the graphics are a bit outdated and there is no open world like Sims 3 but Sims 2 was fantastic. You can even see life memories of the Sims so there is a story to them in a way. I used to mod them a lot and even film episodes like a TV show and music videos lol
@@seaserenity5971 I think the PC versions had storylines too, no? I remember they had memories so it was like a story, especially with the Goth family
The EA app pooping out on me constantly is the reason I started playing sims 3 again 😮💨
It eventually let me in a month after or so but seriously?????
omg i always thought that those windows just don't have glass in them... i never knew it was a bug XD
@@lapetitecerise4557 I mean, I'm pretty much aligned there with your points, even up to liking Sims 4 art style, lol
But seriously, the Store is crucial because it directs access of additional created content and indicates EA's business decisions.
I would imagine it's a nightmare to work with for devs as well. I'm not saying that's a valid excuse though considering the price of the dlcs
I'm so excited to all of the DLC that i forced myself to downloaded the Pirated Version instead
How about playing some of the older games? Xd
@@sharpasacueballseems to me like creating a fully fledged game right out of the box would be better for everyone. EA's current strategy of milking new players for every penny has destroyed their entire brand and they'll eventually run out of suckers.

Indeed. I have a video out tomorrow that aims to address both Paralives and Life by You and how they can take on EA in the life simulation space.

Why even try to make a new game if you can milk old one forever? And wave off all protests of dolly graphics and no color wheel or open world with one answer - this way the game is more stable! no bugs and lags! more representation for non-biological genders!
I doubt it. LBY and Paralives fall into some of the same problems The Sims has now.
@@AbsurdMultiverse_Sims Clearly not considering they are working on a sequel of sorts.
It isn't and it's very sad. The Sims 4 is just a shell of a game
Made my own sim movies.
Got rid of the maid, fixed up Mary Sue and Daniel Pleasant back in love. Got the kids happy and on their own.
Always ended my game with my Sims in the shower. When I got Night Life and added it to my basic game ... Daniel and Nary Sue got out of the shower without their pixels. Yep ... got some fun pictures of all that. Daniel was an artist and painted some beautiful paintings of Mary Sue without her pixels. So cute!
Fixed up the Goths. Mort and the kids went back to Strangetown and added Bella back to their home. Back to Pleasantview where the went to the mountains on family vacations.
Alexander Goth got Meadow Thayer off the streets, dressed her up and married her. The wedding was BEAUTIFUL !!! ... under a full moon. Did you guys know you could get pictures and videos under a full moon ? ... !!!
Loved the slow motion of snowball fights and dinners while taking photos.
Loved the dogs and cats. The green houses. The trees. Fishing.
I had to go get a real life and missed out on 3 and 4. Maybe I'll try 3 soon.
@@trinabaker3186damn. I’ve missed sims2 for well over a decade, this really brought back some of my best memories.
Sad, but I have to wholeheartedly agree
You are 100% correct on the fact that they can shield themselves from criticism by saying, "hey it's free to play though"
Disgusting.
I think sims 2 is underrated. I was born in 2001. I have played all 4 games. But I keep wanting to go back to sims 2. I really liked it. I also have many expansion packs, all on CD
Sims 2 is not underrated when the majority of the sims community are all saying that it's the best one.
@@DefyReality-ll2cg it is when EA disagree with the community
I mostly use the Sims 4 as a character creator and building simulator, as that's really where it's strenghts lie. Actual gameplay gets stale fast. And even then, i always use a ton of cc and mods
Same here. Werewolves is my favourite pack coz of them wolves. Made some interesting characters for a dark fantasy story (not like friggin twilight) but that’s about it.. it’s just a pretty looking game.
Agree, modders CARRY the gameplay. I cannot ever play sims without save files and mods. Without them it gets boring in a day

I feel like Paralives could be the game to carry on the sims’ legacy. Seeing the effort the developers are putting into the game and the detail is insane.

Indeed. People shouldn't let their fanboyism cloud their judgment
Tell me your company is understaffed without telling me your company is understaffed.
Sims 4 : 💀
Sims 2 : 🫡
Sims 3 was the best by far. Had no shortcuts and the open world and capability of having plots wherever you wanted and the size you wanted was unbeatable. I miss TS3 as my macbook cant run it.
@@Abellajajait's not a lack of staff. The original talent has left the company. EA is a publisher, not a developer.
Like getting hit by a satellite, abducts by aliens, get bit by a werewolf etc i also liked how if you wanted to do certain things you had to work for it such as becoming a vampire you had to befriend them and made a lot of work. the smaell details in sims and when their needs arent met the crazy comes out if was just more entertaining i cant get myself to play sims 4 long
So many typos im too lazy to fix🥲
I'm 35, and I remember reading a preview on The Sims, I must have read that article 20 times. It's a shame Will Wright sold out to EA. EA has no love for their consumers, we are not people, only wallets.
I agree, but I can't blame him either. If someone were to offer you bucket loads of money for something you created and would give you the freedom to retire early with a super comfy lifestyle, wouldn't you be tempted to take the offer too?
On a side note, Will made the game affordable and accessible to everyone. I happily paid for his game and all the expansion packs. I could barely afford anything at the time and I had enough money to buy it.

sims2 was the pinnacle of it all... university, pets, kids and shops....that game had it all
Most of what we consider staples of the sims franchise started and were created in Sims 2.
I would love to get Sims 3 but I run a windows 7 for my Sims 2 and idk if 3 would play on it
The sims 2 innovated a lot, but the sims 3 perfected it.
And not just Build/Buy.
i live in a third world country, and i was amazed to find that when i totalled all of the sims 4 dlc, it costed more than my yearly school tuition.
that is so disgusting omg 💀💀
@@bull_technologyomg no way
I grew up playing The Sims 1 - 3.
So true. The red flags were there from the beginning. Yet we gave the game the benefit of the doubt at that point.

Ah, yes, The Sims 4, the game in which sims are so buggy they take 5 hours to eat a simple meal, superb 😌👌🏻
It is absolutely sickening.
But the REAL problem is that almost all the pack/expansion they release are absolute mess/broken in the first launch... alright we know they need money to develope the game right?... but PLEASE ts4 devs complete your game and dont release as a broken product to your customer
It’s insulting to us customers that they release this this overpriced crap to us and it’s not even finished.
I still can’t get over certain STAPLE BASE GAME careers being locked behind a paywall. Like military and politician

What about sims 3
grew up with Sims 3 and recently fell in love with Sims 2, it's a real shame how much games have been turned into a marketing scam, makes it all the less shocking why companies were upset at Baldur's Gate 3 doing so well
Sims 3 is my main Sims game now.
I'm also looking forward to paralives
+ another thing worth mentioning is that in order to enjoy TS4 at least a little you HAVE to buy some DLCs as pure vanilla base game is dull af. I remember playing base TS3 for the longest time and never having enough of it whereas TS4 without additional content is sooo boring after an hour or two. DLC should be expanding a gameplay, not making the base game playable at all
Agreed. I’m all for games that have good-quality DLCs, but the base game needs to be a quality game.
Even the word "base game" is EA exclusive. Never heard someone using that term for Stellaris, Cities Skylines etc. even they also have dozens of DLCs.
I bought an old laptop, Sims 1, 2 & 3 & never went back to Sims4.
No regrets.
Sims 2 is basically my comfort game. I play it at least a couple times a week.
Same here
I created my first legacy family on Sims 2🩷
There are currently 20 babies-teens under one roof in the Pascal Curious/Nervous Subject Household.
Yes I love mods and CC lol
And remember, the original Sims 2 files caught fire not long before it’s release and they STILL released the masterpiece that TS2 is 🎉
Sims 2 and Sims 3 were so much easier to mod too, and add your own content.

Hey thanks for the kind words! I really appreciate it!
One of the developers of Sims 2 and 3 is working on a new game with Paradox, life by you. My hopes are high! Remember him delivering a package with a new computer in Sims 2?
Rod Humble, such a legend.
I'm still playing Sims 2. It's detailed and warm. Thanks to the fact that 2000 clothes back in style it doesn't even looks outdated anymore)
Also dont forget in the sims 3 they had the exchange where you could get a decent amount of content for free, where in the sims 4 they only offered like 1 free item and it was a guitar skin.
dont forget the free holiday christmas pack that looks ridiculous unless you pay for seasons
This feels like what happened to the Simpsons. The series will live on for probably forever, but really died a very long time ago. I just have to settle for playing the Sims 2 and watching the 90s episodes of the Simpsons forever lol
Same with music…society is dead!😢
I'm in the S3 camp. S3 is fun, I was a fan of Sweet Treats because it had a Willy Wonka feel. The talent they were pulling for radio stations was amazing. S4 is really just a parody of itself. Sad that most of the original developers are gone. EA loves to exploit the IPs they buy for money and hence here we are.
hehehe LGR wouldn't agree about the Sweet Treats xD xD
